ramilo holter it does, yes. The more enemies you defeat, and the less damage you take when doing so, gives you more xp to upgrade Aya's abilities as well as earning points to upgrade weapons. Also, use of the police baton as opposed to firearms gives more xp, so if you think you can risk getting in close, it can really pay off. I believe Parasite Eve 1&2 are available on the PSN.
I've been replaying the crap out of it, just about over 10 years later since I first started the game :3 I wouldn't mind a reboot, so long as it doesn't suck or not do it justice (which I feel 3rd Birthday did, :( )
nah square penis will probably not going to reboot this franchise because it needs to sell 1000.000.000 copy. might as well pan the franchise and throw it into the dust bin. ( sarcasm). what an irony isn't it? Cough..Cough "TOMB RAIDER" Cough..Cough
PS1 was the harbring of the cinematic experience in video games, as much as I loved the N64, nothing came close to the stories in FF7, Metal Gear Solid and this imo. Gameplay wise is a different story haha
I remember how much this intro alone sent chills down my spine, and it still does today. the music was blood rushing, the graphics were scary and mesmerizing at the time, hell still is in my opinion. you can show this to anybody who did and did not grow up in the ps1 era and probably get a good response. to this day still one of my favorite games of all time.
No, there's no tie to the Final Fantasy series. In fact, there's no ties between installments of Final Fantasy series other than recurring themes, items, side characters, etc. Plot and other key elements are unique to each entry. (Excluding explicit sequels like FF 10-2, FF 13-2 and 13: Lightning Returns.)
this game is a masterpiece and that OP music+video is really "parasite-eve". its just PERFECT...! i really miss that day. so nostalgic. damn you dexter...!! LOL
I think they do. Perhaps things are just shifting. I think there has been an increase in awesome trailers, and this intro could very well could do as a trailer too. Attraction videos - it doesn't really matter what we call them - seem just as important as ever, if not more. More games are released than ever before, you gotta lure people in ("attract" them) as quickl as possible, and I believe such videos work the best.
Love 'em both. RE clearly had more longevity, and more important and iconic in the long run. I believe it definitely served as some inspiration for Squaresoft when it comes to this project.
Back when video games were video games. Back when stories were epic and characters were incredible. Back when you had to play and EARN everything in the game. There was no store, no DLC, no bank grab bullshit - where you played instead of payed to master a game. There was a time when games as a whole were perfect, and I was fortunate enough to be raised in it.
Maaaaaaaaann... pure nostalgia!! Parasite Eve was one of four games I got along with the purchase of my Playstation. I was amazed about the whole new world the PS brought with it. I have never seen such a game like this before. The cinematic intro, the gameplay and the whole feeling of the game.. I would love to play it again. Amazing title from Square.
game nowadays today sadly are lacking this 'MAGIC FEELS', emotions, 'SOUL', whatever that is .. game nowadays are too cliche, 'mainstream', 'standardized', 'commercially mass-manufactured', monotone, boring, uninspiring/uncreative, & predictable ... unlike the older games like this one (Parasite Eve) , that we can even STILL remember, even after 15+ years !! now THAT's *REAL* game/gaming experiences, folks..!!
+Niki Wonoto Not sure how you can say that with the Indie industry thriving and series like the Souls series, The Witcher, Metal Gear Solid, The Last of Us, Fire Emblem, and Persona releasing (or about to release, in Persona's case) amazing games with in the last few years. Square and Nintendo certainly aren't releasing the amount of quality games that they did in the past but there is a lot more than them.
One of my favorite games of all time. God - I wish they still made games like this. The battle music was awesome. All the music was awesome. I have never had the feeling I get with Parasite Eve with any other game.
Ah sweet nostalgia. I think this game helped give me an appreciation for horrific, disturbing imagery as a young child. This intro is still exciting as it was then.
Hollywood really should do a movie about this video game as Theron Charlize as "Aya Brea " ,Danny Glover as the "Black Detective Daniel", and Aya Brea's adversary "Melissa Pearce" who later turns into "EVE" should be played that Team Mobile girl "Carly Foulkes " .
I love this game. Its something about the music and the story. It draws you in, and I love it!!! Just wish the game played out a little longer, but I still play it from time to time. Im actually playing through it now on my psp :)
Just fired this baby up for the first time in over a decade. Forgot that it’s set in New York. In 1998. Bit of a shock to the system. Damn, tho, this game is still so good. So so so good. Would love a remake or remaster of this one. All the horror games now are zombies. And zombies. And sometimes, if you look real hard, you can even find one about zombies. >.>
This is the greatest game ever made...I beat this game like 5 times and still am not sick of it! The creators of Cloverfield should honestly consider turning this game into a movie...one of the working titles for Clovefield was "The Parasite" too good to be true! Greatest game ever made!
Me and my mom almost beat this whole game. This game was absolutely awesome and creative. The monsters were extremely scary! Watching this brings back old memories...
I remember watching my brothers play this game when I was young (8 years old), but I was always scared out of mind to play it. One day I finally got the courage to sit down and beat it, and boy was I glad I did. This game kicks ass.
This game used to scare the hell out of me. I played all summer one year. I would wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, then plop down in front of the TV. Was a great summer.
The thing that makes this game so special is that the original was based on a novel of the same title. Not many video games are based on novels esp. today.
I loved how you could upgrade your weapons and the way combat was done. And the E-x game in the Chrysler building I could never get past the cockroach. Every time I would start to do significant damage it would lay an egg. By the time I killed the big one which was now flying, the egg would grow up, take flight and lay another egg of its own. I tried everything but couldn't kill em fast enough. I still LOVE that game tho and will keep playing it forever because it was fun!
this game has a great psicology in his characters, and the scenes of enemises bosses makes tremble the player, because the scenarios are darker, and it simulates the sense of danger and fear... this game has beaten me because was one of the best games that i have played
i miss this game so much, i wish they could've made a series to it or something or even at least a remake of this game for the ps3 it would be amazing!
God I loved this game D: I got tot the part where Aya was in the park, then the power went out, and we couldnt find our memorycard in the first place, so my sister and I cried (about 10 years ago) I would love to have this game again!
My favorite game. I have 3 copies of this, and 2 copies of PEII, plus the soundtracks. This showcases some of the earlier and most powerful compositions of Yoko Shimomura. Those young ones that go crazy over the music in KH have no idea the kind of music she could make before. I honestly wish they would make a movie from this. It is "A Cinematic RPG" after all. I watched the movie based off the book and it's great. Now they need one for the game. My vote is for Scarlett Johansson as Aya.
No matter how many times I watch this, I'll still think it's awesome! But I think I scared the crap out of my 5th grade teacher back when I used to draw lots of fanart in class.
Best Armor guide- Save all BP and armor bonus's till you get SV protector (most slots for now) n put all your bonus's on it and the anti poi, anti stiff, anti dark, and one other. play through EX mode using the armor bonus's till you get the CR Armor 2 and super took kit. Then Xfer all the bonus's from other armors and your armor's bonus's onto the CR armor. Add these effects- Attk up, +4item, auto cure, auto heal, hp up, pe light, resist poi, stiff, conf, dark. you will own eve
I cant choose a favourite intro between PE 1 and 2...they're so cool. This one is more dramatic, but PE 2 is more elegant and makes you wanna play the game...i love them.
I always play this and 2 once a year just to relive my memories of how amazing this game was. While it's true The 3rd Birthday misses the point of the original storyline, I think it's great that Aya's getting a new game. It brings attention back to these not-as-famous games and people will see this amazing series. So I thank The 3rd Birthday for that, and even if it doesn't follow the full story, at least Aya is still the main focus and she's the only one who can save them. She deserves it.
My brother brought this game over when i was like 6 years old and i couldnt remember the name and i just now rediscovered it .. i have been looking for a long time
I remember when I was a kid, I was like 8 years old and I was just shitting myself from fear when my friend was playing this , I used to close eyes and ears not to see anything and not to hear anything, yet I still was interested to see whats gonna happen next.
@ekultus its great. its got somewhat random battles but u can move, and the weapons customization is AMAZING. Story is great too. $6 is a steal for this gem.
Yoko Shimomura did a great job! It's funny to think she composed for Legend of Mana as well. Just goes to show the versatility of people who went to music school.
Still gives me chills to watch this and hear that song. An amazing game that I honestly would not mind seeing rebooted.
I have heard of this title but never got around to it..and it surprised me that it came from Squaresoft..must have an rpg element to it?
ramilo holter it does, yes.

My god...that music still gives me goosebumps. Nearly 20 years...
Still gives me chills watching that opening and I bought this the day it came out.
Goddamn, one of the things that made PS1 so much cooler than the N64 was the intros. I swear.
PS1 was the harbring of the cinematic experience in video games, as much as I loved the N64, nothing came close to the stories in FF7, Metal Gear Solid and this imo. Gameplay wise is a different story haha
0:14 ... such a beautiful name.... that was once one of the greatest names in video games...
Goosebumps all over again!! Truly amazing
I've played through this game 3 times so far, this still gives me chills.
The one and only "Cinematic RPG"! Brings back memories. Man, this intro will be forever on my mind.
This video (and many others) is proof my childhood was one of the best you could ever have.
Resident Evil, Silent Hill & Parasite Eve, the holy trilogy of the survival horror of the 90s
This intro still gives me chills!! Such a great game from the old ps1 library
The bone-chilling bridge between FF7 and FF8!
does that mean I should play final fantasy first?
No, there's no tie to the Final Fantasy series. In fact, there's no ties between installments of Final Fantasy series other than recurring themes, items, side characters, etc. Plot and other key elements are unique to each entry. (Excluding explicit sequels like FF 10-2, FF 13-2 and 13: Lightning Returns.)
MalinDeMunich I'm talking about the feel of it
Yeah, I was responding more to the question of whether they needed to play FF first. I understood you. ;)
Ok
this game is a masterpiece
and that OP music+video is really "parasite-eve". its just PERFECT...!
i really miss that day. so nostalgic.
damn you dexter...!! LOL
why games nowdays dont have intros? i remeber back in the day alot of games had cool intros just like parasite eve
Erm. Games still have intros. Not every game had intros back in the day and not every game has intros today.
That nostalgia and feels.
Love this game and the PE 2.
I´ve finished PE 1 recently :) I´m planning to play PE 2
y east europe why ?
The best intro for any PS1 game, period.
i'm the only one who thinks that Parasite Eve is better than Resident Evil? at least the Original?
RafaelDB64 Nope. Not alone.
+RafaelDB64 I Can't really compare them , they are both totally different , how ever Parasite eve 2 is more like Resident evil ( game play wise ).
Parasite Eve better than RE1? Maybe. Better than RE2? Definitely not. RE2 was a masterpiece.
Love 'em both. RE clearly had more longevity, and more important and iconic in the long run. I believe it definitely served as some inspiration for Squaresoft when it comes to this project.
Merry Christmas 1997...
Back when video games were video games.

Wow... how nostalgic!

Best intro ever ....
I agree, one of the best. FInal Fantasy 8 (U.S. version) intro blew me away too.
Both were just overly outstanding.
There is a Parasite Eve II!!! I just started playing it today! I love it so far!
Best Christmas game ever made. It's almost that time to boot it up and run through it once again...
one of the best rpg's ever
Remake please!
Or sequel.
brings back memories..... thank you very much for posting
It's been nearly ten years since I first played this game, and I still get chills watching the intro.
I miss the 90's =(
game nowadays today sadly are lacking this 'MAGIC FEELS', emotions, 'SOUL', whatever that is ..

You are such a hipster
***** Nostalgiac* Bandwagoning terms not understood is typically hipster 101

To be fair, this was when lots of game developers were putting out very expiremental works due to 3D being new territory.
Great Nostalgia. I Remember this playing with my older friends. PS1 FTW!
i was playing this mature game at the age of 7 and i loved it! i've never seen such amazing graphics in a PSX game.
this game used to scare the shit out me,was so good
One of my favorite games of all time.
Selection was my favorite in the intro
god damn this seems like a fucking movie trailer.
one of the best video games ever made.

Sweeeet....one of the finest games ever made for PS1.
One of those I played with surround stereo

Love it. Wish I still had this game
I miss that game, even though all I remember is the spontaneously combusting folk at the opera, the TRex and the Devil Baby, that was awesome.
This game used to scare the hell out of me. I played all summer one year. I would wake up in the morning, eat breakfast, then plop down in front of the TV. Was a great summer.

I still LOVE that game tho and will keep playing it forever because it was fun!
Resonance - Fusion - Selection - Conception - Evolution - Liberation
"The worst foe lies within the self..."
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
Loved everything about this game! Still own it and my PS1!
I think I was around 14-15 playing this. when all the kids went out on Halloween I was playing this... this game is one of my favorites of all time.
This is one of the best examples of the golden age of game intros.
Final Fantasy Tactics has to be up there as well for me..
the music at the begining is brilliant !
1 of my favorite games til this very day! Amazing story line
this game has a great psicology in his characters, and the scenes of enemises bosses makes tremble the player, because the scenarios are darker, and it simulates the sense of danger and fear... this game has beaten me because was one of the best games that i have played
so many memories from a so great game...
I remember the time when I used to play this. It was so fun and also so hard! Square should remake this someday.
i miss this game so much, i wish they could've made a series to it or something or even at least a remake of this game for the ps3 it would be amazing!
Metal gear solid , Silent hill ,Parasite Eve were the big 3 games of 1998. I remember having all 3 games they were the days !
1:55 LIBERATION
Such a cool transition.
I love the soundtracks on this game so much.
God I loved this game D: I got tot the part where Aya was in the park, then the power went out, and we couldnt find our memorycard in the first place, so my sister and I cried (about 10 years ago) I would love to have this game again!

I loved the soundtrack throughout the game too. ..
I love this game...Perfect mix of epicness, horror, suedoscience and deep story :D
Oh man that game was awesome...
the music just rocks
Squaresoft really rock the shit...they always produce sheer quality..and the most memorable soundtracks...all hail!!!

@Rinnage There are still games out there today with good quality stories, you just have to know where to look for them.
I always play this and 2 once a year just to relive my memories of how amazing this game was.

this is the best horror game i ever played and the first horror game i had
i hope i can get it again
This game was so unique... I can't even...
I'd be a different person today if I had never played this game. Crazy but true. One of the smartest, most engaging games ever made.
I like Parasite Eve is one of the best games and this great intro
My brother brought this game over when i was like 6 years old and i couldnt remember the name and i just now rediscovered it .. i have been looking for a long time
I remember when I was a kid, I was like 8 years old and I was just shitting myself from fear when my friend was playing this
, I used to close eyes and ears not to see anything and not to hear anything, yet I still was interested to see whats gonna happen next.
these games are my childhood man, i fucking love the soundtrack..
@ekultus its great. its got somewhat random battles but u can move, and the weapons customization is AMAZING. Story is great too. $6 is a steal for this gem.
This game is beyond human imagination
Yoko Shimomura did a great job! It's funny to think she composed for Legend of Mana as well. Just goes to show the versatility of people who went to music school.
