The variable aperture still makes sense in phones because big apertures not only give you a slight bokeh but also adds blur to your image. While bein able to close a lower f/ number you can add sharpness to the image at the expense of shutter speed or iso, remember this sharpness is by an optical phenomenon and not just a sharpening filter

I have been a Huawei user since the Mate 9 era to mate x3 and i just moved to Honor ecosystem with the V3.. In the last few years Huawei Focus is on the Chinese Market, My Chinese version of Huawei phones offer way longer update support and much better experience than the global ones. I strongly Advise to move out, cause that focus on the Chinese market is growing bigger and bigger..
A really nice summary of the flagship Huawei phone, but now I'm definitely waiting for the full review, and hopefully some camera comparisons against likes of Vivo X200 Pro, the iPhone 16 Pro Max,or even against the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Dear Ben I'm from Pakistan, maybe only 1 and following you for ages. Go for battery drain tests also, like Mate 70 Pro Plus and other top tier flagships. For motivation you can do similar to Technick style battery drain test.
The amazing thing is my 16 Pro Max have been able to turn non-moving scene into blurry photos. I think there is something wrong with my phone’s gyroscope / OIS or iOS 18.1.1’s processing needs bug fix

I've always liked Huawei devices starting with the P30 Pro and the Mate, and it's really a shame, but I don't think the new path of a standalone OS can survive outside the Chinese market (history teaches, Microsoft and others). Perhaps, only with strong and secure support for Android apps can it survive in the other hemisphere.

Its not a triple cam its a quad camera and it does use an in-display fingerprint it uses a side-mounted fingerprint
