I have to disagree that we didn't learn anything new about Pearl. It's not a whole lot, but I think her upbringing from her mother and her frustrations about her marriage (and not just "my husband doesn't fuck me so that makes me mad") explains quite a bit about her that we didn't know in X. It's why she wants to leave the farm as badly as she does, because she really doesn't have anything, but her mother seeks to deprive her of those dreams for a variety of reasons. And she basically turns out exactly like her mother did, angry and bitter that her dreams didn't pan out, while young people are still able to freely pursue theirs.
I think the fact that her mother has been aware of her daughter's disturbed nature for a long time but saw her as "evil and malevolent" and just another failure in her life is emblematic of how stigmatized the mentally ill were a century ago. Pearl is obviously not a good person by any stretch, but she's aware that she is and it upsets her, but doesn't know how to change because everyone is terrified of her which just makes her even more upset, so she just continues to spiral and indulge in her more darker impulses. Her solution at the end of it all is just to pretend that everything is fine and okay and that she's happy with what she has (a facade that cracks just in the end credits, because repression isn't the answer).
But I also don't think I went into this really *needing* to learn that much about her? X already gave us a basic idea, and this movie just filled in the gaps. I went into this expecting "American Psycho Starring Mia Goth" and that's not exactly what I got. What I got instead was "American Psycho Starring Mia Goth, Also She Fucks A Scarecrow".

Sorry you were depressed that sucks. I can relate unfortunately.
Do Revenge has some of the best make up, clothes and cinematography I've seen recently. Just a beautiful movie!
101 Best Horror Movie Moments is great. Queer For Fear just started too. Those two go great together!
Last thing, I saw Bug in theaters when it first came out! It was heavily billed as William Friedkin's return to horror at the time. Such a creepy horror movie that really gets under your skin! I liked it a lot at the time, but I haven't seen it since because maybe it works too well? haha I thought it was a lot scarier than The Exorcist. And I've had that, "I am the insect queen line!" stuck in my head for a decade and a half now! I should probably give it a rewatch finally.

I've seen all of these except Smile, so i fast forwarded it to that part of the video and thanks for that honest analysis. What you described is exactly what i had the feeling the movie was.
And yes, Kyle is a great actor and the nicest dude ever. He's able to convey strength and vulnerability at the same time, and tends to play a lot of "broken" characters struggling with something. I actually worked with him when i did make-up fx in Hollywood.
I painted a large tree tattoo on his back for short film, and i spent the day together with him and Olivia Thirlby, and he was really chill and humble. Have you seen The Cleansing Hour yet? He really gave it his all in that one and it was an interesting take on exorcism and live streaming shows in the modern age, etc.

I have recently seen Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney Plus and I freaking LOVE that movie. I definitely consider that movie to be a worthy follow up to the 1993 original. I also went through my Chucky marathon in honor of season 2 of the TV series. Last month, I watched all 4 Ghostbusters films (the main trilogy on Blu-ray and the 2016 reboot on Amazon Prime Video), Vivo, which I have on DVD (originally streamed on Netflix), The J Team (on DVD, originally streamed on Paramount Plus), Now and Then (1995) on DVD and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney Plus.
For Slumber Party Massacre 2, the film is a worthy follow-up to the 1982 original. The Driller Killer (often dubbed as "Rocker Billy Freddy Krueger") is the more bad butt and even more threatening than Russ Thorn from the original. This film felt almost like a dark comedy musical slasher film judging by the Driller Killer's deadly guitar (his method of slaughter) and his sexy dance moves as he approaches his victims. Atanis Ilitch (son of the late Mike Ilitch) was brilliant as the leather draped freaking moron.
Next weekend, I'm going to the movies to see Halloween Ends in theaters with my friends.

I feel like pop culture films now are TOO focused on previous generations and leave our generation behind and pushes the stereotype that we are bland when we aren’t!!! This is also why I loved Bodies Bodies Bodies! We should stop focusing on others when we can uplift ourselves and create an idol for the actors in OUR generation and own who we are!!!

I thought Pearl (the character) was too two-dimensional.
She was mostly either just mopey and sad or angry and murdery.
I would've liked to see more scenes where she is happy and excited about her future as a dancer.
My favorite scenes were her dancing in her room before her mother walked in and her dancing with a scarecrow. I wanted to see more of that to contrast her scary side.
I agree that it was pretentious.

Hey Kylie haunted hippie I’ve been sick under the weather but it looks as if I got some catching up with TV series. Little demon is on my watchlist if there’s anything I like in horror is more so magic based especially with two fantastic cast members like Devito & Aubrey plaza. The Patient I’ll have to make time to watch it at some point. Now let me say this about the newly released horror films I’d did not like Don’t worry Darling or Pearl felt those ones sounded good on paper. The execution did not work or kept me engaged to see what’s gonna happen eventually became very predictable. Pearl felt like you’d seen this older 1940S slasher flicks Before; the cast performances were not existent besides Mia Goth. She’s hopes for a glamorous lifestyle but her career to takeoff not to solely be on the farm. appreciate where Ti West was trying to go with his direction overall just wasn’t my cup of tea. Don’t worry darling was such an frustrating watch I would’ve loved to see Alice Florence Pugh Frank Chris Pine tackle more on the Victory project rather than where the story began to take a nosedive towards the second & third act. The twist in my eyes was head scratching left me unsatisfied. Let’s get Ready for THIS BLOODY OCTOBER 👻🎃🎃 Chucky Season 2 & Halloween Ends Wooo Yeah!!!

Yer I watched that Good Night Mommy, very poor. Even if I saw the original first, my reaction would have still been the same…..”wow, fucking shit” 😂.
And that is only because, imo that whole twist has been done so many times now. Most recently was that Joker film, with Joaquin Phoenix.
But what annoyed me about that Good Night Mommy, is that it didn’t explain much. Usually when they reveal that basic bitch twist, they do the recap of earlier scenes, showing the main character talking to no one. Sorry had to vent a bit on that one
