I gotta know... did running without the air filter cause this engine failure, or was it just its time? Thanks so much for watching and hit the thumbs up button and subscribe for more if you enjoyed. You all ROOOOOCK!!! 🤘🤘
I would say she was almost due for a rebuild but the ultra free flow 5000 no restriction airfilter didn't help either. Part number is 000000, don't recommend.
@@MichaelSabo nahh there's no way it caused the failure. I haven't finished the video yet but if there's no scores in the cylinder walls or on piston skirts or in the bearings then there's zero evidence that it was caused from no air filter. The ECU would correct fueling for the "extra" air coming in. I'll correct myself if there's evidence of debris entering the engine and causing damage b
I mostly enjoy the quad wars, and cheap quad challenge like Mike and sxs blog often do. But this is pretty cool too. I'm a dirt bike and quad guy, but the sxs scene is getting bigger every day.
There is a better chance that it blew the head gasket because it was overheated at some time or multiple times. With factory tune they are a little lean in the middle and the radiator fan doesn’t kick in until 200 degrees. I would definitely consider upgrading head studs right away now that you have it apart.
With the shim caps they need to be in the right order like you are doing. If they get mixed up valve clearances will get changed and you will have to re shim
Hey mike you just opened the bumper in the video and pointed out the rescue point. I'm suggesting getting a yankum kinetic rope for recoveries , lite weight , very strong to have when needed. Lots of sizes and colors to choose from . 👍✌️
I did a lot of research on the X3 before pulling the trigger on my first pure sport SXS. The Rotax Ace 900 engines seem to be very well built. I would think they would have to be since some of those engines are classified to be used in ultralight aircraft chassis.
Still trying to get used to seeing you in jeans and a hoody mike! Lol, when you film at home it’s always shorts and a Tee. And the classic Parts exploding in your trash can. Thanks for the video, I’m on the fence with a sxs right now. Let’s see if you can sell me on it.
this is your 4th video that i saw and I'm amazed to see someone just doing the videos so much for community and not just to make money, i do not own any bike atv or sxs but i really enjoy your videos at least this what i saw good work and good luck to future of your channel
It was a 154hp first generation x3 engine. No filter, detroyed your turbski, and blee it all to pieces. Probably crack some ring lands and skirts as well. You can make 32k miles if youre diligent
Slapped the same turbo right on the replacement engine and it pulls 89mph - I've got about 8 hard hours on it since. Not saying it didn't do damage, and I'm no pro, but I inspected the rings/ skirts, etc, and it looks pretty dang good.
Multiple times you kept smelling coolant. I think it just ran hot to many times. Cylinder pressure went up as temp went up. Just a good old blown head gasket. Definatly need to check the head a deck for warp.
S3 are a parts house in Europe (Italy I think), they started out with specialty motorcycle parts and have been steadily expanding into other markets :-) Big in the trials world.
Professor Sabo i thank you as many do for your detailed works. We look forward to a great 2025 with you and your incredible sponsors of fine quality parts and services. You sir may enjoy as many Bul tacos as you can consume. 👍👍👍👍👍. Merry Christmas and hopes for a wonderful new year. 👍✌️
I think the dirt blew the Turbo! Just like Cletus locked up the Mini TRX, I think maybe the head is warped, but the bottom end didn't show any signs of overheating?! 😮
The weight=quality thing is because of the Chinesium that has taken over. Chinesium is always lighter than the same thing made out of quality material.
"Let's see if we can get this engine apart just using the Tusk tool set" ... proceeds to use an impact and a hammer, neither of which are in the Tusk tool set ... lol
I see what ur saying but Mike gives all kind power sports content and atleast its not all chopped together shitty stuff he’s working on in a dirty garage all the time lol
That engine was fine. I'm thinking you got it to hot and then either blew the head gasket or warped the head. But at this point I think a new headgasket would have fix it.
@MichaelSabo Sick a YFZ. Really hoping you make the jump and purchase a KTM 525 Quad. They are so sick and rare which means expensive. Would be cool to see since not many have them.
Damn, it's a real bummer that box didn't come with the Japanese screwdrivers. Like they really dropped the ball on that especially for the price. What a shame.
@MichaelSabo in my opinion including those is a no brainer. If it had those it would be well worth the price but without em I feel like you can get the same tools for less money since none of them are real specialty. Still cool tho and like you said perfect for the track just needed those damn screwdrivers.
You need to at least throw some high end boost pistons in it. I think wiesco makes some for high boost for those engines and I know that Carrillo makes some h beam rods for them and you can make some serious power with that set up oh and make sure you put arp head studs in it to keep it from blowing head gaskets
Probably the Wildcat 421 Banshee. Even the cases were wallowed out where the crank bearings sat. All that I salvaged from that engine was the transmission if I remember correctly.
Michael how do you not get depressed when ur 9k machine does shit like this.... I just got a wr450f for 3k and dumb old owner didnt tell me about alot and thats on me but it forced me to spend like 3k on it to get it right
i dont think the debris caused it, i think the high heat of the engine probably warped the heads, how clean that one piston face was shows the coolant got in there, i doubt the decris would work itself into the heads that fast without causing alot more damage and you would have seen it all throughout the heads and cylinders
i really like the tool kit, but for the price id want it to have less foam so i could at least add more tools that id need. if thats a spoke torque wrench ands it is quality, that alone is usualy above $100 by itself though.

Naw I'm sure it being the first year model they didn't use strong enough head bolts to hold in the boost
Your videos are top notch!
Mike sabo with the beard era in STRONG
Haha, thanks for the love man!
Was gonna say dudes growing out the beard hahaha

about time you post
With the shim caps they need to be in the right order like you are doing. If they get mixed up valve clearances will get changed and you will have to re shim
If I'm not mistaken, this has hydraulic shim buckets that do not need to be shimmed.

I think you’ve gotta do some kinda engine build on er with a bigger turbo and a tune maybe get it to 300 horse comfortably🤔

I see no evidence of debris from the air filter causing any issue. I don't think running without the air filter caused the damage.

So the original engine has higher compression ratio than the one you put in. The one you put in normally has a slightly larger turbo paired to it
This is true, although I put the original turbo on the new engine - it definitely runs harder and pulls 3 more MPH top speed.
is this michael sabo or what!! make the engine roar
