      @@MissGarland1986 literally for all my childhood, as a low reed player, my dream has always been to play in the pit band for this show. i wont get there, but if i did, i would be rocking out in the seat playing every single night pouring my heart and soul into every song and loving every second. Every one of these guys in the pit has that exact same mentality. there is so much pride and passion that goes into music at this level

    Amazing job! The guitars are what really sets it out during most of Wicked for me. Man, the sound is so ethereal sometimes, it is cool to see you making what, for me, was some of the coolest parts of the orchestration in the whole show. Again, well done, sir!

      chriswpcs thanks heaps Chris! Check out the video of Dancing Through Life... that had the most effects of any song, some really nice bits.. that was my favorite track to play. It was a challenging show for me, I'm not a professional guitarist so really had to work at it .. some bits were still a bit terrible but nothing the audience will have noticed haha!

    • @DaveBanen

      joe threlfall not for a show this complex I don’t.

    • @DaveBanen
      @DaveBanen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      joe threlfall a professional might.. but I’m no professional. I haven’t studied and I don’t play full time. Guitar is a hobby. Even so, even a skilled player would struggle sight reading this show sight unseen in a live performance.

    • @DaveBanen
      @DaveBanen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      joe threlfall with respect, sorry but you’re wrong. There is far more to playing a show like this than just the dots written on the page. Add in the sound changes, fast guitar changes, watching and following a conductor, time and feel changes, track segues etc.. “sight reading” it at home is one thing - do it for a real show with a band you don’t know and an audience, then tell me it’s easy. You sound to me like an arrogant uni music student. Sorry. Ps, like I said I’m not trained - I do not know every position on the fretboard. So for me I don’t sight read.. i practice the show ahead of time.

    Glad it went well for you. Any advice on improving my reading in middle/higher positions? That's the limiting factor for me when learning this much material.

    • @DaveBanen
      @DaveBanen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      sorry for slow reply. Not really. I struggle with this very much so too, and was by far the hardest part of learning the show. Muscle memory and committing to memory as much as possible... All the e-bow stuff (some of which you'll see in other videos), was tricky because it's all on the B string, sliding from one end of the fretboard to the other, and using note positions I normally wouldn't use.. add to that, because you're sliding all over the place, i couldn't read the music and play at the same time, or watch the conductor... so committing those lines to memory was tricky for me.

      Non-professional still pay performance rights. The company gets copies of the proper charts (which are the same ones used by the pro tours)

    Hi Dave, hope you don't mind me asking - but is it possible you could send me the music for this or any other musical shows you may have lying around? I'm trying to work on my reading chops but it can be quite difficult getting hold of these types of scores. Great tones and playing btw, I have a lot of respect for you guys handling this type of gig - it certainly doesn't look easy!

    • @penguin6943
      @penguin6943 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glen, I don't have the music (and I'm not sure if Dave does either) however I do know that show music parts are rental and not available for purchase - I'm working on a show right now on keys and band parts are only leased for a short while. The parts can be very hard to get hard of, however if you want to improve your reading chops I'd suggest reading chord charts for songs online (most pit parts, from what I know, expecially for guitar are slash notation with the odd bit of stuff notated in treble clef (melodies etc.) so I'd suggest working on those aspects). Sorry if the reply is late / not very relevant but I hope it helps!
