I feel like this song came from some place that is out of this world, free from all the negativity and hatred. And A.R. Rahman himself is portal to that world. Have been listening to these songs for over 20 years now and still my mind goes "what the hell man, how did he think of that and conveyed it to the musicians to bring it to reality?". It just blows my mind.
You dont realise the brilliance of Gulzar sahab till you dont know the back story of this song and how masterfully he has played with the words here to accomodate/hide the context. Listen to the song carefully and you will realise that Lyrics actually talks about a bride, who is sharing experience of her first night with her friend. But because gulzar sahab was very well aware that, Lata didi will not sing a song with any crude words in it, he carfted words in such a manner that for the most part, you dont even realise what it is actually about. Listen again the first stanza (1:36) of the song and now try to follow the subtle hints.
I've watched songs from Dil se many times.. Shah Rukh, Manisha, Preity all are so awesome in conveying the deep emotions in these songs.. AR Rahman and others who have made these songs are just geniuses..
This music was composed in 1992 and it has so perfect mixing and combination of instruments that it became timeless. After 30 years also it beats present generation composition. I am an amateur composer but based on my minimal understanding of music, I can say this is an unbeatable masterpiece by A R Rahman.

You dont realise the brilliance of Gulzar sahab till you dont know the back story of this song and how masterfully he has played with the words here to accomodate/hide the context. Listen to the song carefully and you will realise that Lyrics actually talks about a bride, who is sharing experience of her first night with her friend. But because gulzar sahab was very well aware that, Lata didi will not sing a song with any crude words in it, he carfted words in such a manner that for the most part, you dont even realise what it is actually about. Listen again the first stanza (1:36) of the song and now try to follow the subtle hints.
