- If I’m buying a watch from a new brand or a Kickstarter, I want to know if my new watch will live on even if that new company doesn’t. How easy will it be to have this watch serviced and maintain by an independent watchmaker, or would it always have to be sent to the authorised dealer? Will parts be easily available? Can general crystals and aftermarket straps and brackets be used? In this review I’ll take a closer look at this watch and see if we can answer some of these questions.

I agree. I am always curious as to how clean and well lubed Seagull (and other Chinese) movements are when they are manufactured. I have seen some teardowns showing dust and foreign matter in brand new Chinese brand watches, but I always wonder how much of that is from the movement manufacture and how much is from unclean conditions in the factory where the movement is cased.

Hilarious throughout but you still manage to get technical and to show is all how it’s working. From the slightly salty bogey, the shower scene and then the cuff shot where you have just cut a arm off a shirt 😂😂

I particularly like your display cuff! Had not realised it was so practical. I like the look of the watch, and especially liked it with the mesh band you showed. I also have a watch reading issue, and have found that a good contrast between the hands and the dial is all I need. My current watch has mirror polished steel hands, and a matte pale grey dial, and the combination of finish and “colour” works well. Thirty jewels seems a bit over the top, almost twice as many as usual. You should take a look. Oh, and I bet numbers 0001 and 0002 are in the company vault, or on,the CEO’s wrist.

12:57 The lime green strap is boss. Also, this style of review, where the object under review is dissected for the audience; is ideal for watches and other adult playthings. It lets us see the guts of the watch and decide for ourselves if they've taken any shortcuts or left out anything vital.

I'd have to give up a lot of old Jaguar parts to purchase that watch. I never go anywhere fancy enough to warrant that kind of watch. That said, it's nicely done, something different, and reviewed excellently.

To see you strip it down a bit, and the possibility of a full strip-down and putting together is an exciting thought that could give a rumbly tummy, but your confidence as you detached the flat world, and the success of it, gave much confidence. This isn't primarily a time piece, its jewelry that tells time. If all we want is time keeping we can buy a seiko or timex and have years of pain free service. This is a statement, a look at me, somthing to talk about at the bar or party. I suspect that most people who wear it will look at their phone if they want to know the time. for what it is I think its fantastic.

A really pretty interesting design at that price range to be sure. It is however a tad too big for my taste and my wrist, as I always feel like big watches on a small wrist are kind of vulgar. Makes me feel like a footballer wearing the biggest watch he can find to show-off ;)

If I could have a second expensive watch, I would consider something unique like this, but as I can only afford one watch at a time that's over $1000 (US) I would likely go with a more traditional style. Very nice looking watch though.

Now ETA wants broken movements to be send directly to them for repairs and they refuse to supply parts to small repair shops. So yes, please make a teardown and comparison video and let us know if paying more for the original 2824 has any benefits over getting Seagull 2824.
It's true ETA don't service directly or sell small parts but a lot of the companies that use their movements do service and repairs. My Tissot Seastar went for an small fix in warranty (lost the lume pip on the bezel) and they first try to service the movement but it was still not running within specs and they changed it for free.
The powermatic 80 is basically a 2824 (or 2826 I am not sure) with a slower frequency

The good and the bad. the good: it seems fairly accurate and robust. The bad: it’s way too big for most people. Personally, I stop at 43mm DIA X 15mm thick. The time telling scheme is awkward. The numerals are too small and for someone my age, illegible. Plus, I really don’t want the bulk of my watch dial to be a semi-3D representation of the Indian Ocean. Overall, I would not look twice at this watch. But, that’s just me.
I agree, I suggest they take off the divisions in the outer dial (they are useless and clutter up the display) and put only larger numbers. Also, they could make uk centered worlds, japan centered worlds, australia centered worlds etc.
The only issue for an independent servicing this watch in the future is the minute wheel has been re-geared to a different ratio than standard, so if that part breaks and the company isn't around to get new parts the independent will have to make a new gear.
I think the parts will still be available from seagull
We invented a brand-new mechanical movement. On the typical movement 30° rotation of the hour hand followed by a 360° rotation of the minutes hand. We developed a new gear ratio, on which the hour hand(the earth) rotates by 30° and the minute chapter ring rotates by 390°. The original technology was named “Asynchronous-Follow”. Unlikely available separately, unless you buy the whole mechanism
