The way I saw it at 2:47, he almost german suplexed Kurt Angle directly on Kurt's head. For a 'normal' german suplex you put your opponent on his back, while controlling his body the whole way. Whether Tazz himself, Kurt alone or both improvised that landing doesn't matter, risking serious injury for your opponent is a valid reason to halt a push. Unfortunately the interview didn't go into detail on that.

If you look back at the Title match when Cactus suplexed Triple H on the pallet, a splinter causes a huge gash on Triple Hs calf, yet he still continued to have a classic. Respect for that.
You have to give Triple H a lot of credit for finishing the match with a chunk of pallet/skid in his calf. I remember watching the original DVD release, they had a bonus feature with HHH in the back after the match getting checked on, gruesome stuff
I legit didn't know there was a piece of skid in his calf. I thought it was just a cut from the debris. Geez. And this was the 2nd ever PPV I watched on VHS. WM11 being the first, both on VHS (which addressed the technical issues via Roddy Piper bits on the VHS).

If it was a botch, it shouldnt have been acknowledged because no one cared about Big Show, he was colder than Antarctica and its a shame he was needlessly shoved into the mania main event
The HHH v Cactus Jack street fight is such a mirror on their no DQ match on RAW back in 1997. Their positions in the company had changed so much since then - both now champions - but whilst Foley was nearing the end of his career, Helmsley's was on the ascendency.
I remember in an interview with Mick Foley that Vince went to before their match Cactus and Triple H telling them NOT to use tacks, glass, or anything like that before leaving. Triple H turns to Mick and asked "We got the tacks, right?" Only for Cactus to chuckle saying "They are already underneath the ring." A Classic match! And a fun story that stuck with me. 🎉
The thing that made no sense was for Rikishi to eliminate the other two. Why wouldn’t you team up until you were the last three left? You’d give up a huge advantage by losing an alliance.

17:28 The point of this weird aside was so they could switch the barbed wire bat with a second one stashed under the Spanish announce table. The wire on the first one had become a bit untangled during its use, but when Foley retrieves it it's tightly wrapped again. I still have this show on VHS. After the broadcast, special VHS features would play (which was customary for UK VHS releases of WWF shows at the time). Some were backstage interviews from the Outlaws and Tazz but one was a feature where during the Rumble playing in the background, Triple H was getting tended to by doctors. That suplex by Cactus Jack on the wooden pallet board caused a gash in Triple H's leg which was shown being stitched up.
The first that I saw (nearly) live, though I had several on video. A friend of mine and I combined to collect a lot of the major PPVs from 1987 to 1992, plus various "Best of" videos and some later classics like King of the Ring 1998.
This was where I truly began watching wrestling. Channel 4 started airing Heat that January, and they also had this and some other PPVs air free during the deal that lasted about a year or two. And good god, what a start to it, eh?
This show brings back good memories . Even though the channel 4 coverage wasn't great i was ecstatic to watch this ppv live or the day after it happened after years of waiting for the silvervision releases months after the shows or hoping my my mate with sky would record them. Was my 1st year of college then too and wrestling was actually seen as cool with a lot of people talking about in the lunch break and WWF in 2000 was peak viewing.
I always wonder if the effects of the 1996 Rumble led them to the idea of Rikishi being the one to run over Stone Cold (when Stone Cold got eliminated by Fatu when he wasn't supposed to get eliminated)

The WMX7 of the Royal Rumble.
You may just be correct on that. Legendary venue, and a card that was solid to spectacular with a few meh spots.
First ever ppv I saw when it was on channel 4, still my favourite
Just commented this exact same thing. I bet there are a few of us lol
Same
The first that I saw (nearly) live, though I had several on video. A friend of mine and I combined to collect a lot of the major PPVs from 1987 to 1992, plus various "Best of" videos and some later classics like King of the Ring 1998.
@@ITIS2000MAN Backlash, Fully Loaded and Armeggedon for free too!
This was where I truly began watching wrestling. Channel 4 started airing Heat that January, and they also had this and some other PPVs air free during the deal that lasted about a year or two. And good god, what a start to it, eh?
John Rocker was 100 percent correct when talking about NYC
This show brings back good memories . Even though the channel 4 coverage wasn't great i was ecstatic to watch this ppv live or the day after it happened after years of waiting for the silvervision releases months after the shows or hoping my my mate with sky would record them. Was my 1st year of college then too and wrestling was actually seen as cool with a lot of people talking about in the lunch break and WWF in 2000 was peak viewing.
Rikishi -"Has a clean driver's license." Wonder, if they were already planning him to be reveal as the driver even then? 😆
I always wonder if the effects of the 1996 Rumble led them to the idea of Rikishi being the one to run over Stone Cold (when Stone Cold got eliminated by Fatu when he wasn't supposed to get eliminated)
Royal Rumble 2000 was One of the first WWF PPV's we owned on VHS when my Brother & I were Younger & I would Borrow it from Time to Time Just to Watch the WWF Championship Match between Triple H & Cactus Jack!
W
If I ever had a personal 5 star match list, Triple H vs Cactus Jack would absolutely be on there
