The Gameplay,The Soundtrack,The Roster,The Gm Mode(Best one),The Season mode,The Graphics. For me this is the best and most complete Wrestling Game ever.
The only thing this game did better than 06 was the Soundtrack and Graphics. The Gameplay? Definitely worse due to Ultimate Control. I've seen people get softlocked because of it. The GM Mode? It doesn't even let you book who you want in Title matches and instead forces you to abide by the ranking system. I definitely prefer 06's "f around and find out" approach. The Season Mode? Please. Should've been two seperate stories. Instead they force you to do both. If you start on SmackDown and go to RAW then the story has no satisfying conclusion. In conclusion: 06 better.
17:00 “But here’s the real scary part: No one’s seen Benoit since last weeks match, and I’ve got no idea what’s going through Benoit’s head.” Pretty prophetic.
There are some very eerie things involving Benoit in this game. A weird promo cutscene with Taker saying to Benoit that the “Inevitable will occur” and talking about his “Grieving family” And there is a song on the soundtrack called Forgive Me, by Post Hardcore band Versus The World, which the song is all about suicide. And this creepy lyric from the song “I’ll swing here, I’ll hang on to this rope just until they’ve found me, the note on the floor says I wish you were here” Benoit was found slumped and hanging from his weight machine after he tied towels around his neck and onto his weight machine to crush his neck.
Memory unlocked: How long it took me to beat the final challenge match in this game (Mickie James vs The Great Khali on Legend difficulty) even after using the “give Mickie the Pedigree as her finisher” trick it took me a few tries.
Especially cause it had to be on Legendary difficulty. (You could also cheese it by lowering the reversal for the CPU to its lowest.) 😜 Me and my buddies usually put the game on the hardest difficulty, and have all the reversal meters maxed and do our own season mode which we use our own custom superstars. ❤
I remember finishing a friday at school, year 6 and my dad picked me up in his Astra, since it was his weekend with me. He whipped this baby out of the driver's side door and I was absolutely ecstatic. Such good memories with this game
Such a cool memory! In 2007 I was 17 locked away in Military academy. I missed Svr 07 so I was reading about 08 for the whole year I was in boot camp. My dad gave me a 100 bucks on graduation day and I went straight to GameStop while still in cap and gown to buy SVR 2008. Rip Dad
This game is how I got into WWE. It's still amazing that this game opens with a song about suicide (that mentions hanging, no less), given who's in it.
11:42 as a kid i loved it because i would make up my own wrestling roster of my classmates and teachers and make up storys in ppv mode...me and a friend would tag team match teachers we hated 😆
I remember RVD's entrance music being different in this game and it threw me for a loop, and also the Uh Oh Its Magic storyline from the Season Mode is amazing.
I never, ever understand video game trailers that don't use in game footage? Like what's the point? You wouldn't advertise McDonald's by showing off the finest steak available, you wouldn't run a commercial for a pair of jeans by showing a T-shirt. So why do it with games?!
While I agree with you, it’s similar to how McDonald’s and other restaurants polish and present their food items to look perfect on the commercial, meanwhile in real life you order the same thing and it never looks how it did in the commercial …eventually you learn and start to know better. I think nowadays you often see a note at the bottom of some trailers clarifying whether or not the footage being shown is cinematic or in game footage
The last game to feature every roster of the Ruthless Aggression Era 02-07. Chris Benoit before Murder/Suicide, Kurt Angle heading to TNA, Big Show 1 year hiatus at the end of 06 returns 2008 and RVD until 2013 return to WWE and Hall of Fame class of 2021.

Okay so the reason its legendary is the story mode, roster (one last hurrah for the RA era) and GM Mode, its often acclaimed to be the last of great wrestling games WWE presented (excluding 2010 and 2011).
SvsR2007 may not be the best WWE Game of that Era but what it had was definitely the best Soundtrack. The others were also good but 2007 was just awesome: Animal I have become, Alive and kicking, Bullet with a Name, The Enemy, Forgive me, Riot, Suvive. To name a view.
My very first wrestling game in 2009, a kid who bought his play station portable and got into wrestling, enjoyed it thoroughly. One of the GOATs of wrestling games for sure.
This game is very important to me. Not because its my favorite because its not but because its how I found Three Days Grace. This game influenced my music
I really wish this game was on PS3 at the time but it's ok, this game came out 18 years ago. I can't believe I just said that. 18 years was such a long time ago.

SmackDown vs Raw 2007 is one of my favorite games. I had a PSP version which sadly broken down, but then I got it on 360 and I still play it from time to time to this day. It’s one of my favorite wrestling games. Great memories.
This is one of the games that helped me stay sane while I was downrange in Iraq. I brought the PS2 version with me, and during the deployment, I got SvR08. The memories, man. 😊
Nice to see this get covered. I took a hiatus from wrestling in mid-2007, so this was the last Smackdown/SvR game I would buy for a long time. I logged a ton of hours on the GM Mode.
Not only the first ever wrestling game I ever played, this game was the first time I'ver ever heard of WWE, now wrestling is a major part of my life, helped me a lot in my life, even in my professional life, I've learn english because of wrestling, and that helped me a lot in my career, safe to say this game literally changed my life.
It's weird that they made the likes of Rey Mysterio hurt themselves when trying to kick the likes of Eddie Guerrero. The Divas are only available to be picked in normal match types. And there's massive slowdown during Money in the Bank the more weapons get brought out. Still, it's nice to be able to use the cage as a weapon this time w/ new animations for turnbuckle attacks, while incorporating a meter to win the ladder match is a significant improvement. I'm one of those people who liked the Create-a-PPV feature to be able to set up dream matches & events. It's especially convenient when revisiting the game after many years, simply going into a PPV and play different characters and match types in quick succession.
Vito was the only Light Heavyweight in the game for some inexplicable reason. It looked ridiculous seeing Eddie, HBK and RVD, Nitro and Mercury react like The Great Khali when a cruiserweight would strike them or try to lift them.
I have such good memories about this game dude. I remember my first introduction to the SvR series was with the original Smackdown! vs. RAW (2005) and I played the hell out of that game. Sadly the game wasn't mine so I had just one week to play that game. But then when my dad bought me SvR 2007 for the PS2 oh man I was the happiest kind in the world at that moment! I remember creating so much superstars, championships, playing day and night that game. And also the soundtrack! Man it was a hell of a soundtrack selection. My good taste in music is thanks to this game. Amazing video dude!
I made a storyline where the Hardy Boyz joined DX and became DXtreme since the NAO were in another promotion and Jeff Hardy was coming back but he wasn’t in the game so I made a CAW Jeff Hardy .
I bought this on Xbox in 2006 this was my favorite WWE game on Xbox 360 the SvR on original Xbox was decent also. All in All I was only beat 4 times online with over 200 wins 21 custom titles and 7 tag team custom titles I acquired .
Have played this one consistently over the years, and it’s still a blast and one of my favorite WWE games, for sure. The loading screens are iconic and it’s got one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever. It literally never gets old.
Favorite SvR game. Owned an OG Xbox with all the terrible wrestling games. After RAW 1, 2 and Wrestlemania 21, this game was absolute heaven to me lmfao
My first WWE ever game . And I instantly fell in love with it . Season mode split between challenger and champion with two dozen storylines , never feeling repetitive ( Favourite ones the Survivor Series story and The Elimination Chamber for the WWE Title ) . Challenge mode is great and GM Mode rules . What a great time that was .
At 25:26, I chose the Big Show for the story. So that meant that Big Show and BamBam were the face team against the smaller heel team Foley and Piper in that tag team cage match. That was strange.
YEEEEEEES THIS WAS THE YEAR I GRADUATED FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL YEARS! In my point of view THE BEST GAME EVER! AWESOME SOUNDTRACKS! I was playing the PS2. 4:22 - I'm glad you are seeing why.
Oh heck yes! I played this all the time on the PS2 when I was about 24, 25. I had a lot of fun with, lotta good memories. But that win a MitB ladder match as Great Khali against 7 other cruiserweights challenge can F right outta here 😂
I love this game! The memories of me and my friends creating our own characters and making unique entrances and move-sets for them just to go to war in all sorts of match types..... great times! 😊
I remember being leary when i bought this game dirt cheap a few years ago for the ps2. But then that all changed when i played it and had tons of fun with it especially gm mode i played that more then season mode and had a fun time with it.
I used to spend hours playing this with my little brothers when times were simpler, and we were all still very close. What I wouldn't give to just go back...
This was the first wrestling game i ever played and the one that made me a wrestling fan, i had no idea what it was but my older brother recommended it
The controls on the PS2 and Xbox 360 versions are the reason why I prefer playing the PSP version, even if it's watered down on everything else. The controls on the PSP version are much more intuitive and simpler - closer to the older SmackDown games.
Knowing IGN, I highly doubt they were suckered-in or fooled into posting that fake 'in-game' footage. IGN is notoriously known to intentionally mislead their audiences with cheap bs marketing strategies exactly like this all the time. I used to see it happen so frequently on that site, while they'd often rightfully get called out for it, but they'd shamelessly keep doing it anyway. I recall getting so sick of it around 2004 or so, that I happily never looked back.
The last WWE game that I bought from the smackdown series growing up. Around this time I fell out of wrestling because it was moving to the pg era and I was also getting older and changing interests. Such a special time lol
I think SVR 2006 might have kind of been a better game overall as a package. But I played this one like exponentially more. I just loved having it on 360 and it was close enough to '06 that I didn't necessarily think of it as a downgrade. I might have preferred the roster in '06 overall though. I can't remember what the heck they called that new feature, I want to say it's like ultimate control moves. But that idea where everybody kind of had one move that you could use to pick people up and move them around or throw them onto or off of things. I liked that feature. And I think 06 and '07 had the best story modes. I loved going through it again and again to get slightly different stories to occur, and some of them were pretty wild lol. Other than that I thought it had a decent selection of match types, and I was absolutely addicted to GM mode The real big problem I used to have with it, and I definitely had with it even more when I revisited it. Was that this game has like just as many loading screens as starfield. Only this was back when games took a lot longer to load. Seeing one before each entrance and then before the match really felt like it dragged things out a lot.
The games of this era are the only ones i played online. There were very few players not using CAWs and almost all of them were either crazy, purple, midget aliens with 6 foot long arms or some guy with Jeff Hardy's facial hair and a hoodie with glitched 2 tone
I loved this game so much and I spent so much time on GM mode!!!! I wish they could remaster these games with the new roster and old roster together. These old GM modes would be INSANE!
Me and my friends growing up in middle and high school played this game all the time on PS2 - we basically played it so much that we got used to some of the controller jank.
This was my favorite of them all. The music is insane!! Play it on emulation now, but had it for the 360 when it came out and I'm so disappointed I don't still have it. I probably traded it in at GameStop for a few dollars in store credit for another game. 😭
I had the PS2 version. I remember when 2009 came out and going back to this one after my console and games got stolen and the screen loading time was quite annoying and that was roughly 2 years after release.
I'm surprised you didn't like the grapple system. I played it in 2020-ish after not playing it since it came out and thought it was really really good. I liked it so much that I 100%-ed the trophy locker room and got all the achievements minus the online ones. My only gripes were some of the tweaks they made to GM mode

Yep. IGN has always been the textbook definition of a tasteless marketing machine of a "gaming news" site.
Other than that I thought it had a decent selection of match types, and I was absolutely addicted to GM mode
The real big problem I used to have with it, and I definitely had with it even more when I revisited it. Was that this game has like just as many loading screens as starfield. Only this was back when games took a lot longer to load. Seeing one before each entrance and then before the match really felt like it dragged things out a lot.
Probably the most objective review ever. People be overhyping this game too much sometimes.
The games of this era are the only ones i played online. There were very few players not using CAWs and almost all of them were either crazy, purple, midget aliens with 6 foot long arms or some guy with Jeff Hardy's facial hair and a hoodie with glitched 2 tone
I love when wrestling bios gets funny this game is fun never played the Xbox version one day i hope to do so
I'd honestly like to see more of the storyline gameplay. A livestream or more videos would be pretty sweeeet👀👀👀
I had the PSP version
I loved this game so much and I spent so much time on GM mode!!!!
I wish they could remaster these games with the new roster and old roster together. These old GM modes would be INSANE!
This is the best wrestling game ever. Everything was perfect. Best roster, best gameplay, best game modes, best soundtrack
You must seriously love Steve Blackman.
I was so hyped to get this game back then. Man time flys
I have recently ordered this game and can't wait to get it again for some nostalgia
Hands down the best SVR game. And that soundtrack is so legendary.
The greatest wwe gameplay ever
Mostly played as the ECW Stars from that game great soundtrack
Wrestling Bios, you can have custom soundtracks (for wrestlers) in the 360 version.
One of the few games I remember buying at Shopko back in the day
