What a beautiful place.
It was! Thank you Jane
Wonderfully presented as always ❤
Thanks a lot 😊
@@SamWalksALot Beautifully presented. My first video. Not my last. Glad I found you.
I camped up there many years ago. We woke early and there was no birds singing. Absolute silence. Creepy!
Loved the trees and rolling landscape.
Beautiful place.
I will definitely put it on my " to visit" list.
wow ,what a scary place , i will have to go there one day . great video .
@davidoldacre Thank you David, worth the visit 😊
I've been there a few times. Sadly never seen or heard anything weird. Just a nice place. I think I will go up there this afternoon. It's a nice walk.
I did go up there. A lovely sunny day. Cooler in the circle, but it is on top of a hill and shady. No headless horsemen though.
A brave one you are, Sam! 😃🙌
Hahaha thank you Cian 😁🙌🏻
I rode up there after the Storm, the trees on the outer ring were still standing, but some near the bank had fallen. I found a bit of mosaic tessera from the alleged Roman temple. Another time archeologists digging there found a bronze boar which they lent me to draw.
My horse was always scared up there and spooked at it
Didn't you find a dead black cockerel hanging upside-down from a branch, when you first rode beneath the scarp there, in the early 1980's?
Great talk and visuals
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 😊
This is the first time of watching you. A very mysterious lady indeed. You sound so convincing, that I almost expected to witness something paranormal, apart from the woman who lost her phone!
The pick the right choice of background music, with some very clever effects. Great work.
Thank you 😅 I never know what to expect when I enter these places, the energy is there.
The music does help. I do love adding music, it sets the right mood, for me 😁
hello again Sam, i love the spooky creepy ones lol, another Beautiful place , thank you for showing us around Sam i really enjoyed it 😊
Hello Davie 👋🏻 ah me too 👻😂
Thank you so much, as always
Mysterious place. Feel the unusual energy of it emanating through the screen!
There's definitely something there...
Would love to walk that section of the South Downs Way; Chanctonbury looks so nice with the beech trees. Not sure I'd give up my soul for a bowl of soup - that's almost as expensive as Waitrose! This was also where Tweedy Outdoors' video was this week.
What a lovely, unspoilt view. Beech trees are right up there in my list of favourite trees. I hear they are well presented at Burnham Beeches.
Yes, Burnham Beeches is AMAZING, and quite spooky. Some very old and gnarly trees as well
Place looks intense, plus interesting history, brave to visit as well 👍stay safe in your travels k.
Thanks Oscar! Always 👍🏻😁
Yet another wonderful episode Sam. Those woods look & feel spiritual. 😊👋👏👏👏👏
Thank you Kev! There's definitely some kind of energy there, didn't feel too bad though 😁
Wonderful Sam. A really interesting video. :-)
Many thanks Paul 😁
Good video beautiful area
Thank you Paul!
Hi Sam,I hope you’re doing well.I’d never heard of this place before, very eerie looking place, thank you so much for sharing 😬🏴🙏🏻
Hello Gary 👋🏻 all good, thank you 😁 How's life in sunny windy Scotland?
@@SamWalksALot It’s actually pretty sunny and surprisingly windy 😭It’s Scotland,it’s usually grey and warm or grey and cold😬🏴🙏🏻
Fascinating place with some intriguing history. Thank you Sam.
Thank you Chris ☺️
Thanks for the walk! What a gorgeous place.
Some of the trees are odd shapes ♥ I bet Pan and pixies live there!
@AskAnnaTarot It certainly feels that way 😊 there are a couple of huge fairy doors too ✨️
@@SamWalksALot I cant wait to see where you go next!
Have you heard of Northumberland International Dark Sky Park? Its an area of protected night sky, perfect for seeing stars and UFOs, it must be amazing there :)
@@AskAnnaTarot I haven't, no. I'll look it up. Thank you Anna 😄
Fantastic episode Sam, definitely a place I should visit, thank you 😊
Thank you ☺️
Another fantastic episode, Sam. This place was new to me.
It certainly seems charming, though I'm not convinced I'd want to stay there.
Appreciate you sharing this. Stay safe, as always. ✌✌
Thank you Peter! 😊
Nah, I wouldn't want to stay there either
Stunning location and great production. I haveeseen it in the distance, but have never visited. Once more to add to the list. Thanks Sam
Thank you Stuart. The climb isn't bad at all, and it's a lovely (albeit eerie) picnic spot 😊👋🏻
Reminds me of Badbury Rings in Dorset a little . I bet it was those Victorians ransacking the tumulus/tumuli back in the day ! Those trees as you walked into the woods looked like they were alive - very spooky ! Love a good old woodland with a ghostly past. Nice one again Sam
Thank you Nick! I'd like to visit the rings!
And yes that's possible. They dug up Chanctonbury 4/5 times too, maybe it wasn't a great idea...
@@SamWalksALot You should visit them Sam and have you ever been to Danebury Iron Age Hill Fort near Stockbridge? Fantastic place to visit
@newforestexplorer I will next time I'm in Dorset 😄 I've been to Danebury once, some time ago
@@SamWalksALot I must have been about ten times over the last three years 😬 Not heard of any ghost stories on there though
A wonderful presentation and video. I just found your channel and subscribed. I look forward to more wonderful content. 😃
Thank you 😁 hello and welcome 👋🏻
Very impressive editing and storytelling! The last time i was there i didn't experience anything but i would never wild camp in those woods! 😎
Thank you 😊 nah I wouldn't either, too eerie for me
I've been through Chanctonbury ring a couple of times, at least one before the Great Storm of 1987. More of the trees seem to have survived than I thought, which is good to see. I must be completely insensitive, as I didn't find it creepy at all but then in those days I was not aware of the legends. However on one occasion when my wife, myself and our spaniel were on our way to Chanctonbury (from Findon, probably) on the South Downs Way we climbed up to where the trail follows the scarp westwards and our dog refused to cross a nondescript section of the path. We had to lift her over. This would have been maybe half a mile to the east of the Ring.
Thank you for sharing your story.
The fact that the dog wouldn't proceed is quite strange.
I think that the Ring isn't too creepy - except for the fact that there aren't any animals on it, of any kind - but it has a quite intense atmosphere ...
Amazing video -Loved this-Thank you Sam I have posted on our FB History group ❤❤👍👍
Thank you James, much appreciated, as always 😁👍🏻👋🏻
🙏🙏👍👍
😁👍🏻
Very enjoyable portrait of the enchanted Ring. Did I hear a bird break the eerie silence - or was it the call of the undead? Thank you.
Thank you Malcolm! Lol I haven't heard any birds at all while there, people, planes and screaming kids, yes 😂
There are fields and trees just outside but no chirping inside.
Cobblers. Spent many a night camping on it throughout the year in the 80s and 90s and nearby Cissbury ring too. Both are like Picadilly circus now at night so they've lost their charm. You're feeling cold because its always windy there and you are in the shade...
🤣
I can remember visiting as a kid with my Father. He did not tell me any of the creepy stories but I can remember the otherworldly atmosphere of the place, sort of magical. You expect Aslan to appear from behind a tree.
It really has that energy, doesn't it
Good evening Sam! 👋 Thank you for another awesome video. I would definitely not run around the ring 3 times, let alone 7 times. I wonder what flavour soup the devil brings and does he supply the tin opener. And why didn't they give the lost phone a ring in the ring. So many questions we'll probably never get an answer to. Fabulous stuff once again though! xx😃
Hey Al 👋🏻 thanks so much! I think that all the running around would make you hungry, so you might want a soup afterwards? 🤔😂
@@SamWalksALot You make an excellent point, but I don't think I'll be running anywhere thank you xx😉
@@allenfarmer7869 fair enough 😂 xx
It does look a lovely place but wouldn’t want to camp there. Good video Sam, you look as gorgeous as ever ❤
I wouldn't want that either.
Thank you Chris 😊
looks spooky i would not like to be there after dark lol keep them coming
I would as long as I wasn't alone, that would be way too creepy for me 😂
The devil's in the detail! 👹,great show Sam 👏
@seanstephens144 he's been a busy 🐝
Thank you Sean ☺️
No, you're wrong! I can hear birds!!
Oh, wait. They are the birds here in my yard.
Lol
As most viewers won’t be living in Britain it would be nice to say where it is.
I thought if you sold your soul to the Devil, you got more than soup 😅 looks an eerie place alright, no sheep 🐑 this week , have they fled in terror? Great film Sam, thanks for sharing xxx
Right? The devil is a bit of a cheapskate 😂 there were some sheep before thd climb but they weren't sociable 🥺😂
Thank you Mark xx
@@SamWalksALot They can be a bit sheepish..... 🤣
😂👍🏻
I don't like soup, would he have a Mac ds?😅
At the look out point on Box Hill in Surrey it is just possible to see Chanctonbury Hill. It was just a blur on the horizon but still...
I haven't noticed, I will look for it, the next time I walk there 😁👍🏻
@@SamWalksALot Look for the grave of a relative of General De La Billiere, he's buried head down.
@pooooornopigeon haha yes, I saw the tombstone, how eccentric! 😁
@@SamWalksALot His soul likes hot weather so he's heading down under. 😆
😆😆😆😆😆
Back in the 70's & 80's we'd quite often go up there especially at night. Legend has it that if you ran round the circle 7 times the devil would come out. We tried it several times but nothing, just got knackered in the process 🤣🤣 Beautiful view from up there though. Another ring nearby is Cissbury Ring which is a huge Neolithic hillfort on the South Downs.
🤣 you really could've done with a bowl of soup after all that running 😂
I'll make it to Cissbury as well, see if there are any legends up there too 😁
Cissbury Ring is said to have a tunnel leading to Offington Hall, with treasure at one end guarded by snakes. In the 1920s, most of the servants were too frightened to go down to Offington Hall’s cellars, even though the tunnel had long been blocked up. Fairies can be seen dancing on Cissbury on Midsummer’s Eve although we didn't try that one out. Also Near Cissbury Ring, a highwayman was executed for his crimes. Before he died, he swore that he would never rest. He was buried in the middle of the road (daft place to bury someone) , but his corpse was later found above ground and took several attempts to bury before he stayed put. After that, he still didn't rest and his ghostly form was seen riding a horse on the highway where he was buried. A coach driver decided to run down the thief but he passed straight through the coach. Cart drivers taking the road would go over something large but looking back would see nothing. Good luck with the walk...it's quite a trudge up the hill. 🙂
@spursgirl5 oh wow! Thank you for all the information! Definitely a place to explore. A steep walk uphill? Love it 👍🏻😁👍🏻
You should go to Avebury
I've been, but I should definitely go again, thanks!
Thanks Sam...at least your cameras kept working on this one, although someone tried to pull at the camera 👀
Could be some kind of electromagnetic field on top of the hill, which also might explain the absence of birds (it interferes with their sense of direction).
I sometimes wonder if this is one of the reasons for people becoming disorientated (or Pixie led 😳)
Ah, if only we could see what's under that hill 🤫
Could well be. I'd love to see what's under there still. They found remains and ruins etc but they stopped a long time ago...
Glad you're back! 😁
you should of said to the camera puller hold my hand ttfn&ty
next time I will
It was a ring of trees once but after the 87 storm a vast amount of the trees were flattened . Now it's just a mess , pity .
The trees are, or should be replanted every so often. It didn't look toooo bad, but I couldn't get a full walk around the circle...
@@SamWalksALot when it was a ring there wasn't another tree for about 75 yards and the ring stood out for miles . Druids used to gather there on certain nights of the year and as kids we would try and sneak up on them . Have slept at the ring many times but never did meet the Devil . If the scrub / trees were kept cut back etc it could be returned to it's status as an iconic Sussex landmark .
I have been to that hillfort and some of the others like Cissbury Ring along the South Downs and didn't notice anything supernatural. The only ancient site that we did notice something strange was West Kennet Long Barrow.
Interesting. I had coffee in WKLB and all was OK, but Chanctonbury was a bit weird for me
To not have any birds seems a bit strange to me.
I’ve been 3/4 of the way up but turned back on the long sweeping walk up as we had a 6 y/o with us.
I was hoping you would have showed everyone the tree with the amazing exposed roots ??? it is something straight out of Harry Potter..
Anyway, it’s a great video. Thanks for taking us up there.
Thank you James! Ah, I might have it on one of the videos I took. I shall have a look.
I played up here as a kid all the time. The trees were massive then before they were mostly flattened in the 87 storm. I’m still very local but not been back for years as it’s a shadow of what it was prior to the storm. Your vid has made me want to go up again. Thanks. 😊
That's so lovely, I hope you do get to go.
Shame about the trees. I hear that the estate planted more, but it will take some time for them to grow...
It’s just a place.
It used to be called the off license because it was full of whines and spirits or perhaps it was just a bad joke which will come back to haunt me ?
😂😂😂👍🏻
🥰
😁👍🏻
Lovely location but...whenever you hear the phrase "most haunted" you can be assured it ISN'T haunted at all. After my 48 years of research I'm sure of it...though of course there are many susceptible folks who will disagree 🙂. Research Cannock Chase if you like...that too is 'the most'....whatever 🙂
I was actually thinking the same thing today, there's a lot of competition for the "Most Haunted" title.
I enjoy the energy and the stories, fascinating 😁
I enjoy your videos. And thanks for making them. But Aleister Crowley wasn't a Satanist. You have to be Christian minded to even believe in Satan. He didn't believe in such things. I'm not saying Crowley was a good person. But he wasn't a Satanist.
He also wouldn't be doing rituals in the woods.
Also druids existed long before the Saxons.
Hi Barry, thank you!
You're absolutely right, not sure why I said satanist... one of those things, thanks for that!
And yes, druids were before the saxons.
The bearded old man it's either one or the other, I found it strange how opposite they were... I think that if you saw him, you'd know what it was. Made me chuckle.
@@SamWalksALot
Hi Sam. No need to explain, I just thought I'd mention it because many call him that. He was a fascinating man but he became pretty immoral.
You do a wonderful job of exploring places. I have a simular channel if you are interested called Anglo saxon Travelling Duo.
You give me good ideas about locations to explore.
You also have a very nice aura about you.
@barrystevens2699 That's cool 😎 I'll check your channel out, thank you Barry 😊
Seems everything is haunted only in english speaking countries, every where else it is not a topic.
@Tiberiotertio that's incorrect. Plenty in Italy too, have a look
I went there with a friend way back, in November it was rather strange, it was well after sun set , I was happy to leave it, but it was the same feeling I had in over sites.
Yes, I guess that's what Crowley would define as "site of power", he wasn't wrong about that 👌🏻
@@SamWalksALot Who would in their right mind would ignore the master?
Try Clapton wood, is Sussex, not even the locals go there after Dark.
Yikes! I shall have a look, thanks!
