My dear it is called "Baajwa Doctrine" that is why we have extended his job in Pakistan. However India has also extended the services of "Bipin Rawat" although in different form but what have been achieved? As regard Iran & Taliban relations both are now under control of China the new superpower therefore India will not be able to gain anything with this issue. Finally India is totally out from Iran as well as Afghanistan.

Since last 7 years our foreign policy has been influenced by anti Muslim agenda in the mindset of the government. We cozied up with china with the perception that xi jingping is anti Muslim, we failed, because that was not the case, then we cozied up with trump assuming that he was anti Muslim, failed again, then in the Armenia / Azerbaijan we were supporting Armenia again failed, we r over zealous with Israel, because of the same mind set, not realising that it will fail again, we r angering Iran, who has been our ally, we get cheap oil there, we cozied up with Saudi/ UAE, not realising that they don’t matter due to the economical benefit to Ambani probably, then we r on and off relation with Iran, not realising that Saudi/ UAE has issues with Iran. We r not handling turkey well, not realising after 2023 they might become a major player, then we will fall into the same situation as we r in with taliban. The government has to realise that foreign affairs is not about anti Muslim agenda, it’s totally what is benefit for us. Let’s see how many more corners we force ourselves into. Foreign policy is no close friends with anyone, enemy of non, maintaining middle part. We r being used by the 3 in the quad to fight against china, for them. We should fight our own battle.

Totally non sense efforts to do something in a country which strongly fought against almost all great powers of the world like russia, America, nato, Australia, Poland, canada, England and many more. Then what india can do something which will benefit India in Afghanistan. India better to call back its citizens to India as all western nations calling their citizen back.

After America's shameful and humiliating defeat at the hands of taliban despite being super power is enough to reject your claim that America will not allow Taliban to succeed. but the contrary is more truer that it is Taliban that not only would not allow America but can defeat America again if again America make the mistake of reentering Afghanistan. Remember popular line that Afghanistan is grave yard of empires.
Another truth is more badder to hear that Taliban not only defeat America (the super power) but Taliban defeat all major powers of the whole world like nato, England, Poland, Australia, Germany, france who all were station in Afghanistan but all ran like a coward rat.
Now you just reason out that if major power failed to defeat Taliban then what India has which will make India to keep its feet on the land of Afghanistan. Just think. I don't need to elaborate.

In the 7 years (since 2014) since Modi became PM I expected a massive order of 250-300 American 🇺🇸 F-16s so that today the IAF 🇮🇳 could provide sustained and comprehensive air-support to insert 2-3 lacs Indian Army and ground forces in Afghanistan, to take over from the Americans/NATO/ISAF forces there.
This would have aligned India's interests with America completely and ensured a permanent seat 💺in the UN Security Council as a reward. Also India would be in a strong position to recover PoK.
All this is not far fetched, because Modi has displayed tremendous resolution in abrogating Art. 370 on Kashmir with alacrity.

A delightful interview. Two civilized gentlemen discussing a foreign policy and security issue of great international significance dispassionately and wisely. If only men and women of such foresight were responsible for deciding affairs of countries and the world. America's exit from Afghanistan and India (suddenly) looking irrelevant in the Afghan situation shows that neither application of huge military power nor infusion of vast economic resources are sufficient to decide issues of national sovereignty or international relationships. India has made tremendous, by and large successful, efforts to become a world class military power. But that has not made her an advanced modern country. If utilized sensibly, it's very large population, very rich culture, great agricultural and industrial potential and other factors of history, geography etc. can make it a great country, a country which is not feared but respected and loved by its neighbours and the world at large. But that will require men and women of calibre and perception of Mr. Thapar and Mr. Katju to be in positions of decision making.

I think the answer to Katju's puzzled "for some odd reason," "somehow," we didn't make contact with Taliban is quite obvious. It's because in the Indian mind the Taliban are too overly conflated with Pakistan, so India either considered it futile to talk to a Pakistani "proxy" and/or thought it would dangerously expose it to Pakistani manipulation and derision while also alienating its Kabul govt allies.
