I lock the carriage using the socket head bolt located under the tail/crank of the compound. I keep the supplied allen key in it at all times to lock/unlock at will

We'll give it another shot. Initially, we had it positioned with the appropiate side bit, but we achieved better results when mounted the way you see in the video.
