I really like this series but I find it hard to believe that Lu Shi Yi didn't somehow let her know he had to leave, especially after all the time he spent bringing them back together. Probably overthinking on my part...
he had endured too much, including her indifference towards his feelings for her... in the book when he is at the airport he thinks that if someone has to give up love for her to be happy then let it be him
