Wow. I saw Margaret a while ago, and it didn't really click with me back then. Though I did think it felt like more "real" than other depictions of teenagers, it felt a bit grating and all over the place. Seeing this video suddenly made things click, and now I'm looking forward to rewatching the movie. Something tells me it'll feel a bit more cohesive and intentional than it did last time! (Thank you!)
Thank you so much! Yes, I remember choosing it for a movie night with friends and they were mostly baffled as to why I loved the movie as much as I did. Lisa is a really unpleasant person, but she is also such a well-realized depiction of that part of life.
Amazing video essay. I watched the movie solely because you posted a video about it, and I'm very glad I did, since I enjoyed both the movie and your analysis of it. The section on Art & Commerce called back to a song I think you would enjoy, in case you haven't heard it yet, it's MS. MURAL by Lupe Fiasco.
no idea who you are but I randomly came upon this video while researching for a paper on this movie and I'm so excited to watch it! Just a week after you posted it, it must be fate. Possibly my favorite film of all time and sadly so overlooked.
@@creativedestructionvideo I loved the ideas you shared and I appreciate how much compassion you have for Lisa. I think she's often very cruelly dismissed when she's really processing quite a lot. I tried googling the Lonergan quote about teenage media but couldn't find it, would you mind letting me know where thata's from?
Glad you liked it! Saw Margaret for the first time last fall and couldn’t get it out of my head. Was fortunate enough to see a screening of the extended cut in theaters last month. Kenneth and J Smith Cameron were there. Awesome time.
Yeeessss, been waiting for this!
Thank you!
Incredibly woven tapestry of analyses. I don’t know how you do it, but you do it every time ❤
Thank you! Means a lot
Great essay about adolescence and art. Was waiting for your next video.
Thank you! I appreciate you
This is the best video essay, I’ve ever seen.
That’s extremely kind. Thank you so much!
I’m gobsmacked by the insight and analysis shown here- chin chin, sir!
Thank you so much!
Interesting. Margaret may be the best movie about the raw emotions of adolescence. Perhaps since "Smooth Talk" from 1985, starring Laura Dern.
That's a great point. Smooth Talk is a fantastic film.
I found this analysis insightful and very thought provoking. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I appreciate you
@@creativedestructionvideo thanks 😊

It's in this EW.com interview: ew.com/article/2012/07/09/kenneth-lonergan-margaret-dvd/
Hey that’s my Collider article at 3:32!
It’s a good article!
