We finally got a bit of snow here in Michigan, so this morning we're plowing drives with a six-way plow attached to a John Deere Gator XUV865r and pushing snow at the shop with an HLA 2500 Snow Pusher attached to a John Deere 4066R. We've got lots of footage so you can see how to handle a few different situations and drive types, plus get a better insight as to which you might prefer.

I'm beginning to develop an interest in to getting that blade on the side by side and somehow modifying it to work on my John Deere 4100? I wonder if anybody else is mounted one of those on a subcompact.
Neighbor across the street had his drive plowed. It was pushed straight across the street into my drive. I normally go out of my way to take care of neighbor but this caught me in an ornery mood. Since I had my 11HP Honda on tracks out taking care the people on my side of street I decided to see how far I could blow snow. Honda claimed 50 feet. I easily put the snow back in his drive. It never happened again.

Courtney I am going off the reservation here and saying I prefer to blow it. Grew up in Ohio pushing snow every winter, moved to Michigan and bought a snow blower and will never go back. Much faster, does a better job and you never have to worry about moving piles back when you have a snowy winter. Finally feels like winter here in western Mich.
That wasn't an option Donald! 🤣👍 If you notice, there's nowhere for me to blow snow at my shop. Even blowing snow in my neighborhood can be a pain sometimes. My top landing pad is not setup to blow snow. Thanks as always and stay warm!

I bought a little Honda HS720 single stage snow thrower I keep in the bed of the Gator. I use that to clean out in front of garage doors enough to get the Gator in and plow out. I have an older model Powertach plow on my 835M and that can be arranged for down pressure, but I don't use it that way. We just had 20" of snow here and I plowed twice. The Gator handled it pretty easily though it was very light snow. Now my neighbor didn't have anyone do her driveway AT ALL! We have more snow coming and she's parked out by the road. I asked her if she wants me to give it a shot. So I try it with the Gator. The snow had compacted to about 14" and was much tighter and heavier. I was shocked the Gator could push it. It was rolling snow I sweat 4' high in front of the Gator. I whish I had video of it.
I have a Kubota B2320 TLB if it gets bad. BUT that's open cap and I'm not using it unless I have to.
The whole shifting operation and changes in motion on the Gator and any of the CVT's in general it's just ehhhh. Not like using a hydrostatic tractor.
At the street I try and stack the snow on the down "stream" side of my driveway and mailbox. If I need to pile it on the up stream side I try and go pretty far so the township plow can toss the snow and have their plow about empty by the time it gets to my driveway. I have about 350' of road frontage. Generally I NEVER push snow across the street.
If I had a heated tractor cab I wouldn't use the Gator at all. If I had asphalt AND a cab tractor I'd have a snowblower on it. The guys with the snow blowers never have to worry about where to stack snow. I've been stacking snow for 40 years. Using that Honda HS720 is making me rethink my snow removal processes.

I wish my neighbors would be more considerate of where they place their snow. They clean the alley from across the street from me onto my freshly cleaned Sidewalk (the alley doesn't continue on my side of the street). There is nothing that says love like having to reclean a side walk with a 4-6 foot pile of compact snow and rock. The one time I complained he brought the big Cat front loader back and compressed the sidewalk by over an inch with down pressure trying to back drag my sidewalk clean.

Compact tractor (large frame) with a pusher on the front and a snow blower on the back is a parking lot clearing animal. Push the bulk and use the blower to clear additional space (corner spaces!) and quickly put piles wherever you want them. I used to plow a small parking lot and having the extra 6 spaces I could clear 100% with the blower was awesome. Don't get a lot of snow? Hang a rotary broom on the back and clear pedestrian areas.

Im baised here owning a tractor, so I'm 100% snow pusher with rear blade. I actually have 2 different pushers, hla1500 w/ steel edge. perfect for wet snow / sleet / ice as the size only allows so much material so I dont loose traction or steering, the other is a no name large pusher w/ rubber cutting edge (mold board is 35" tall, width is 72") love it for big snowstorms with drier snow, I can move a ton of it at once. The rear blade is great for getting into tighter spots and windrowing smaller storms to grab with the pusher.

I love my 4720 for pushing and blowing snow
I find in reral MN that a blower and blade combination on a tractor works best. It does not matter if it is in a front mount blower and rear blade or front blade or rear blower. That way I don't have to push the snow on to the lawn and rip it up. I have a can stay on the drive and blow the snow on the lawn and still scrap the drive with the blade

Tractor and pusher all the way. Just retired my ATV from plow duty this winter in favor for a compact tractor and pusher. Never going back. Hydro and the extra weight make all the difference.

The Gator did well with the driveways and I agree about keeping the snow off your neighbors property. The pusher did well in the open lot clearing. I was surprised that you have to plow your own area when the landlord has the upper lot plowed. Its also crazy that you have to bring it up the hill. (No place for it in the lower lot). Both plow & pusher did well for there tasks, good job and thanks.

Yeah I agree about the snow in someone else’s yard. Unfortunately I live in the country on gravel and the plows push all the snow and gravel into my yard from the road. I’m not to thrilled about all the gravel I have to clean up every spring. It’s a pain in the ass.

Agree not to push snow and debris into the neighbors yard. But believe I would have to use manual shovel near the garage door to give the gator a start point and push down and to the sides. Still think the 4066 is the ticket

We plow commercially and that is a no no. Company policy. Also illegal in many towns.
That's why I live in the woods I get a $1000 fine. I would plow the Entire road in after that.
Living on a cul-de-sac is terrible with snow plows that don't know what they are doing. Each year they push their blades into the grass and cut up a large section or get stuck since we are on the bottom of a hill and back into the yard and spray salt all over the yard. it Sucks! I try to get out and clear before they get here so all they do is leave a big pile in front of my driveway. They really need to learn how to turn their blades. I clear my drive the cul-de-sac and some of my neighbors drives and I just got the HLA 1500 for my 1025r and I love it. Put a UHMW blade on the bottom and rubber on the back drag and works great. I always put the snow in the curb of the house I'm plowing. It takes a little longer but I agree its not the neighbor on the other side of the street snow. Good plowing

Love your channel. Plenty of good information, presented in an easy to understand format. In answer to your question: I wholeheartedly agree about people plowing snow onto someone else's property. It's rude, it's uncalled for and it definitely shows a lack of class.
Wow, that V-Plow is impressive, a real game changer. Your pretty good with it too. I Enjoyed this. We gotta 2014 John Deere Gator @ Work with a 6' regular plow. It doesn't do that great. We can never get the drag shoes or pads adjusted right. Does OK in deep snow leaves about 1 1/2" - 2"s of snow after your done plowing.

As my dad would always say, "you tried to take too big a bite out of the snow." :) That's why it spills out the side of the pusher and leaves lanes of snow to clean up later.
If you ever need more practice moving snow, I've got a nice long driveway through the woods that I double-dog dare you to try to clear!
And my vote for the best snow remover, the poor guy with the shovel LOL! Give that man a hot coffee and tell him I said, "good work!"

I've really had an epiphany lately with my pusher, and back drag setup with my rear blower. I took off my loader arms on my L2501, and I have to say, I'm so very impressed and a little dumbfounded. My 68" mk martin meteor sits fine with no front ballast! I have hills, and quick drop offs here in Wisconsin and my problem has always been inside corners and maneuvering in all my tight spots. The blower alone on my tractor makes it handle like a jeep compared to a semi truck! And I can do u-turns, or right turns and it follows along beautifully. Plus with the blower, you touch it once & it's gone, except in a few of my tight spots, but even then, I just hit it a 2nd time. I don't get the large piles, and it just handles so nicely! I took it off as an experiment, and have now blown 3 storms without loader arms on.
1. We've had at least 6" each storm, with lesser amounts the blower isn't as effective.
2. The blower actually works pretty good as a back drag!
The blower weighs 500lbs, but doesn't lift my front tires. I'm really amazed by the results. And I'm a big snow pusher fan!
You have one of the easiest driveways I've ever seen to clear snow from.
Then I would absolutely hate to live in whatever area you're at.
Excellent demonstration Courtney of the 2 machines. Your house driveway is definitely a challenge, I do my neighbors and it is very similar. I use a JD 216 with a 37A snow thrower and it really is nibble to get everything and put the snow in the only place possible. There is a downside; no heated cab but I still enjoy doing it:)
At your house, you need to back drag the corner where your garages meet. Then backup perpendicular to your trailer and push your driveway in an arch pattern with your blade angled to the left. Back dragging with a standard plow will never scrap the same as pushing.
Just watching this video makes my toes cold. And Rosie didn't help. At 5:18 I had to go fix some hot chocolate.

Rosie looks like she enjoys the snow - she has a lot of energy! My BX loader bucket works great for my small driveway, but not nearly as fun as my ATV used to be (before I sold it to get the BX...)
Funny how they disguised the brewery across the street as a church ! Your video makes me wish I'd spent the extra $ on a cab for my 2025r - it was 12 degrees this morning when I plowed my driveway ! Steering brakes would have been nice too .
Awesome video! I think I’ll stick with my 1 Ton Diesel and 9’-2” Boss V Plow though. I almost never push snow towards the road it all gets pushed back up the driveway I’m plowing. Also don’t put banks at the end of the driveway by the time winter comes to an end you’ve decreased the width of the driveway pulling in and obstructed visibility pulling out.
Courtney, I really like the plow setup on the Gator. Can you give a side by side view of the operation of the plow controls and the plow movement? I have a Massey GC 1723 EB but prefer to plow with my Polaris Sportsman 850 due to the size, power and maneuverability. We have been considering a SXS and that setup on the Gator would certainly give it a leg up on the competition. Thanks for a great video.
Whoever you plowed around @9:00 that looked way nicer than your driveway. You should do more snow blower videos this winter. I prefer those to a blade.

You should check out the Arctic sectional pushers for that tractor. They will get that perfect scrape you are looking for.
Yea we always had clean scraping issues with atv/ utv blades. It worked a bit better when we added weight right on the plow. It's a delicate balance...too much weight and you will damage the plow, not enough and it just floats..

I've found that the verticle angle on the edge makes a difference when you want to scrape. A slight tilt away from the direction you are plowing causes the edge to float slightly. I adjusted my tilt to perfectly vertical and it scrapes both directions. Also when going backwards your skid shoes will hold up the blade since they are on top of snow where in forward the snow has been removed.

Don't know if this applies to all UTV or light duty pickup plows, but the Meyer Home Plow I use on my Jeep does not have any true down pressure functionality. It's hydraulic up, gravity down. The only down option is a float position. It is also bad at back dragging.
Nice video. I hate back dragging. On double wides without cars present, I generally go up one side of the driveway and swing around in a large arc in front of the garage. Can't always do that though. Pushing across the road is a no-no in my area, and is imho inconsiderate. I do plow into the road, then push off into the customer's side. I REALLY like those HLA pushers, 1800 series with backdrag and uhmw edge. I'll call for quote.

Yeah, might be right. The 1025r with pusher will give it a run for it's money though. However, that AWS on the x739 might be the trump card.
You’re right... having a cab is a big plus on my 3039R. So far I’ve been using my bucket to clear my driveway and it’s working well. Are the blades for a Gator expensive? I have an 835M. Thanks for this video.
In some states its illegal to plow into or across a road. Snow must be kept on the property.

That V plow is slick. That little bit of snow that leaks in the middle would drive me nuts lol. I use a rear blade and a snow pusher, seems like the most cost effective setup. Do you find having the back drag on the snow pushers works better than having a rear blade? I just figured the rear blade works for snow removal and ballast.
Yeah, it drives me nuts too. I bought some conveyor belting to fix that problem (if things go according to plan). Going to install it when I swap over to UHMW. Just need the a couple hours of free time. Yeah, I really like that backdrag on the pusher. Rear blades are very light so don't add much ballast compared to a box or weight rack.
With some heavy shelving, could you make better use of your lot by stacking implements 2 or 3 high, thus creating some real estate in the winter for snow? Would keep some inventory from sitting in snow and puddles too. Just a thought.
Correct. However, I'm desperately trying to move. As soon as I find the right place, I'm outta there. Just don't want to spend the time and money when the right place could come on the market any day.
I agree it sucks most people don't give a poop do have a buddy that plows professionally and he goes back in the spring and cleans up for free although he has landscaping business he just that kind of guy. Rare

I’ve snow plowed since ‘06. Keep the plow straight when back dragging. Your pivot point is center of the V so it’s very hard/impossible to get equal down pressure on the entire edge when it’s not straight. Also your best most efficient plowing with any plow is always forward. Back drag just enough to get your equipment enough room to plow in the forward direction. I have a Boss V plow on my Gator(I know you bought it as a very lightly used machine and it came with the JD plow) and it a much better system, as it has a handheld remote compared to your joystick system, I know it’s more user friendly then the John Deere system. Maybe look into one for yours you will like it 100x better. Love the content though keep it up.

In NY your suppose to keep snow on property your plowing. I think your back bladeing for to far packing snow on drive way. also I notice you could & should use the scoop mode on plow more to help with clean up. Have Fun.
Some of my thoughts from Minnesota: Poor original layout of the first driveway, like most are. Nobody thought about snow removal and piling when it was first laid out. The second one is a little better, but still not good. Ballast sand bags in the bed also help tremendously. And add a backdrag strip on the gator plow blade. I usually clear most snow with the plow truck first except by the buildings, then backdrag by the buildings with the tractor loader, then move that with the plow. The object however is to not drive on the snow before clearing it as much as possible.

Seems like I need an upgrade. I have a 60” plow on my 2025r with a rear blade. I have to plow my 500’ driveway like 15 times to clear it. I was thinking a snowblower would allow one pass instead. But this pusher seems like it would keep spillage down too and might get away with one or 2 passes.
Have you thought about placing two saddle weights on the blade and making a couple brackets to hold them in place for down pressure, just a thought that's all.

Only back drag the length of the tractor. Then spin around and push that gap will not make a difference.

Wouldn't the back drag function for the pusher be the same as the radical tilt of the bucket and back dragging ? I mean in terms of cylinder extension and issues that can happen because of it.

Yep, especially when I just cleaned my driveway access and then the plow comes up the street and a mound across it , especially at night and then it freezes!
You get a little speed bump at the bottom of the drive.
Tractor all day long. 4 series pretty darn maneuverable, will push and stack twice what the gator can do, plus can do front or rear blades, pusher, blower, or bucket. Gator is awesome though.
We haven't had 4 inches of snow combined in the last 3 winter storm warnings in Missouri.
You should do a comparison of your skidloader and your 4066R. I'd watch it!
I always sweeten the deal for my neighbors when I need to stack in their yard. Wait til the city plow comes by and leaves a dense row at the end of their driveway then knock it out for them, for free. Friends for life and they will bake you a pie too.

I live in Colorado at 7500ft and I've only had to plow with my 2025r 3 times this year. We need snow! Weird year for us. Last year I plowed 2ft drifts every other week.

It all depends on the size of what your cleaning and how much snow the bigger the lot and more snow the tractor will work but smaller and a little less the gator will be perfect

I would prefer the gator simply because of storage and convenience. If I was doing a parking lot the tractor/pusher would be the choice. Best wishes

I like weight on the bucket for scraping to pavement vs leaving a half inch of slippery snow. Best machine I ever used was a Cat 930 with a bucket slightly narrower than the front wheels. It took more passes but it cleaned roads and cement down to nothing

I push snow across the street into neighbors yards. I do it with permission and they know I will take care of any damage. Typically they are both my lawn clients also.
