  • Welcome to part 6 of the Linocut printmaking tutorial series! This series is an introduction to linocut printmaking, from start to finish. In this video, we are going to print by hand, print with a press, and transfer our image to a second block!
    In this series, I'm trying to cover linocut printmaking for folks with and without access to a press. Not having a full print studio should not be a reason to skip printmaking! You can simply print by hand using a spoon, Baren, or any other smooth object!
    In this video, we're also going to create a counterproof, which is a print, taken from a print. This is a great way to get your image onto a second block, and keep everything aligned just right! We will be making a two-color relief print in this series.

    Thank you for this. I am taking a printmaking class and was hoping there was a way to do this at home without a press. Glad it is possible and also not seemingly difficult. :)

    Well hell. I was going to teach myself to hand chisel/carve brass, then was randomly sent to your channel from an old AvE video. Now I kind of want to do this instead.

    I've made my first linocut block and I'm almost ready to print. I'm curious about the ink on the block. Should it be cleaned after printing? Your series is really informative. I will return to it again as I work to develop my skills. Thanks!

    Did you simply use hot glue gun to glue the linoleum to your block of wood? and what kind of wood did you use? how thick?

    You mentioned that you could remove that inked mistake on the border of your already finished print. How you can do that without damaging your paper?

    • @DiodePress
      @DiodePress  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Depending on the severity, you can often use a soft eraser, to remove bits of excess ink, or use an blade to lightly scrape it off. Some paper will allow this without leaving a blemish, but others will be ruined, so it's a case by case basis. Often the little marks here and there give it character.

    7:21 what is the method of removing the misplaced marks of ink. Can’t find any info on it anywhere

      I normally print on Rives BFK. In a case like that where you want it to go back to the paper color: my first go-to is a clean white polymer eraser. Then if that doesn't work I'll use a sandpaper eraser. If you don't have a sandpaper eraser on hand you can also take an x-acto blade and carefully scrape it away (the last two may leave a bit of a fuzzy texture)

    Got a link to that roller press you use? I couldn't quite make out the name when you said it.

    • @DiodePress

      I'm using a Jack Richeson 11" press. I'm pretty sure the Blick Econo II etching press from Dick Blick is the same press, with a different name.
