    Hey man thanks for opening this channel! I just started researching linocuts. Something awoke in me to do this. I oil paint and i think linocut is another skill to attack

    Wow, i made one of this for the first time at college and i am in love! i used a speedy carve (looks like an eraser), some acrylic and a utility knife (also at times since i didn´t had a lino cutter i would use a pen to make really thin lines). thanks for the video :)

    I use sunflower oil as a clean up for oil-based inks, then finish with soap and water. Not toxic and cheap.

    This is really good for a beginner - it covers enough information for people starting out and has backed up the processes that we have learned in our A Level and HNC course over here in GB. Looking forward to seeing the other videos to help us progress with this medium. Also hope that we can gain any insight you have into printing onto fabric.

    I have a box of my grandfather's old woodcarving tools that would work for this. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!

      Hey that's awesome, good luck! I have a series on woodcut printmaking as well, if lino turns out not to be your thing!

    Hello, if you do linocuts with oil based paint, for example for fabrics like on t-shirts. Can you use random oil paints or you need linocut specific paints?

    I look forward to following this series after AvE introduced me to you, although it's unlikely I will try it myself as I can't afford yet another hobby that consumes space and money. There's something fascinating about carving the lino though.

    I'm really enjoying this. I live in the Middle East where its really hard to buy material...all I can find to buy is floppy 'fake' Lino...is it worth trying to use this - or should I get online? 😊

    can you use linolium floor blocks if you can't find a lino cut?

    • @DiodePress
      @DiodePress  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never tried it myself, but I don't know why it would not work!

    • @michaelsherck5099
      @michaelsherck5099 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Kennington older books on lino printing advise getting scraps and cut-offs from flooring stores and installers. One book I have says that new linoleum might be too soft or curved from having been rolled up too long. It recommends laying it on the floor of your studio for a while to flatten it up and toughen it up. :-) Old gray lino, though, gets hard and can fracture or break and is difficult to carve.

    Whats is the best way to sharp your tools?

    • @DiodePress
      @DiodePress  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a sharpening strop during carving to keep them sharp. But if I do need to really put a fresh edge, I use an Arkansas stone. McClains printmaking does tool sharpening as well, so sending them out is also an option if they are really bad!

    I don't want to sound negative, but your habit of showing something to camera and then moving away before it comes into focus (and not pausing long enough to allow us to read anything) is kind of annoying. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
