Yep, the 90s-- when bands like Boss Hog and Royal Trux and the Melvins could get signed to major labels and even score a little airplay on MTV. The kids today have got it pretty rough compared to the way we grew up. Where's the rock n roll? Fucking Kurt Cobain would never have been caught dead shilling for Pepsi or taking millions of dollars from third-world dictators to play their son's mega-birthday party-- Beyonce, I'm looking at you. There needs to be another underground explosion to wipe away the pandering commercial music being fed to the youngsters, the way "Nevermind" knocked Michael's Jackson's execrable "Dangerous" LP off the Billboard's top spot in early 1992.
I remember meeting them at Jabberjaw when Girl + came out ... They only got through about 3 songs before the fire marshall shut the whole thing down. Then they hung out out front with everyone and were nice as could be. I remember the bass player showing me his setlist and all the awesome songs they'd planned on playing... I couldn't believe it. I was so scared as a teenager of all the NY scuzz-rock folks and here they were all humble, shy, and kind.
I usually don't bother with YT comments, but holy f*ck is this amazing footage! Along with Rollerskate Skinny the most underrated band in the last 25 years. Christina is breathtaking to watch, and the band is on fire. Thanks sooooo much for sharing this gem!
thanks so much for uploading this. i saw them back in like 92 or so and it was one of the best shows of my life tbh, they were so damn cool. great to hear it again.
Thank you sooooo much for posting! I shared it with Hollis! I love Boss Hog so much! It's hard to find this kind of footage online of them from the early 90s.
I had a buddy who worked in a shop in nyc in the 90s and Jon and Christina would come in for a bottle of wine and he said they were always chill and friendly
I saw them a couple of days ago at the Rolling Stone Weekender, and i asked my mate "Have you ever seen Alison Mosshart live? You've seen her now. Only better." Fantastic performance. The original Dead Weather.
Boss Hog performance for Breaking The Barrier - BC Studio, Brooklyn, New York, US, exact date unknown, presumably in 1993 around the time of the Girl+ EP. SET LIST: Pete Shore Dandelion Not Guilty Ruby Some Sara Cream Agent Hustler Soul Trap Black Betty Gerard Fix Me Trigger Man
Boss Hog was cool but the Blues Explosion was better and it's weird that people post comments about bands like this or the members being phenomenal or bad ass when they're playing stuff any kid could learn in band camp or rock school. It's cool but these aren't amazing musicians in any way, shape, or form.
We were spoiled rotten in the 90's when it comes to music

Anyone know the name of the first song?
I need to know that too. One of the greatest tunes I've ever heard.
“Pete Shore”. Named after the original bass player of The Unsane. Here’s the recorded version.
