    These ali express carts are actually really interesting, they can be reflashed using a joey or a gbx cart, shantae is actually patched to save to tge same flash as the rom, and the sram pulls alot more power than the original carts so saves only last about a year

    I look at Repros this way. They’re fine because the company that originally made them aren’t making any money off them and no game is worth $100+ dollars no matter what anyone else says.

      I have a repro of Oracle of Ages and it doesn’t look anything like the one I had as a kid so I realised because of the shell, the cheaply printed sticker and the price that it wasn’t an original.

    I’ve been waiting forever for a video like this. I love hearing about more obscure GB titles. There’s some interesting Europe only releases like Monster Max, Populous, and Mr. Do that would be cool to see a review of, since they’re virtually unheard of here in the states.

    shantae asking price is absolutely insane for the gameplay being as average as it is
    graphics are amazing though, sometimes i just pop it in to say "damn this is really on a gbc"
    but yeah, as an owner of the real deal, repro is the way to go for that one.

  • @steammachine3061
    @steammachine3061 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The og shantae cart had a clear plastic shell. You can get repros of that version but you pay quite a bit extra compared to the grey case version

    • @TXFDA
      @TXFDA 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, if you're getting an unofficial cart anyway, you're probably just getting it to play. Why spend more on a different plastic shell if it's not a real cart? As long as it plays and saves, that's all that really matters.

    • @cube2fox
      @cube2fox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clear cart makes sense, otherwise someone might assume it runs on their original Game Boy, but it doesn't. It only works on GBC (and GBA via backwards compatibility). I assume you get an error message if you stick the grey Shantae cartridge into a GB.

    Shantae is cool in small ways, like playing at night and the sprites colors change to match nighttime, the music and story, the fact that she does a little booty wiggle when crawling. It’s all just so fun. I feel like that game has a lot going for it for the GBC era.

    Also what I remember from a couple of games back in the days: the story was completely in the booklet, not much text or explanation in the game itself and I liked it. Whenever I or a friend of mine bought a new game, we tried to get as far as possible without checking the booklet and see who came farther ^^

      Blame the pandemic. The whole thing started, and for some reason the demand for Game Boy consoles and games skyrocketed. Demand goes up, so do prices. More and more people are just buying repros nowadays, so fakes and repros have become more common too.
      Not to mention with consoles themselves, I hate to say it, but modders are kinda messing those prices up. The more they mod, the less originals there are, the higher the demand gets. I see some people modding like 5-6 consoles at a time. Some people with an entire shelf full of modded GB, GBC, GBP, GBL, and GBA consoles. Along with the occasional DS Lite "GBA Macro" mod.
      I really wanna get a GBC to mod myself actually, but I can't find just a plain loose GBC online for less than $70-80. And then I'd have to spend another $50 or so on a backlit screen, and maybe even another $15 on a new shell. A GBC should be like $30 at most, but nope. I'm gonna end up having to use my limited Pokemon Gold childhood GBC if I want one with a Backlit screen, or I'm gonna have to spend $120-$150 on a pre-modded one (which, let's face it, I'd just get a damn Analog Pocket if I wanna spend that kinda money.)

    One of the most expensive GB carts at the moment is Chikyuu Kaihougun ZAS

    I am sure LRG or other small publisher will release them if they are given the license to do it.

    I like re-pros that don't completely look like the original on the outside.

    Which version of Trip World is rarer; NOE, FRG, or Japanese 🥺?

    Repros may be more reliable. Saves in many repros don't rely on batteries.

      I've had Kirby since I was a kid. I only recently found out that there was even a Kirby's Dreamland 2 on GB. Didn't even know it.

    If I qas buying such an expensive game, I'd want to see multiple pictures, including on the PCB, so anyone trying to sell this as a legit copy probably won't be catching anyone with that.

    Not sure about the source for this, but I think shantae on gameboy is a rare game because of sexist reason, they couldn't publish it until the very end of the gameboy area because it was considered that "a game with a female protagonist couldn't sell" (sorry for broken english)

    Shantae is a lot of fun.

    Shantae is rare because it was released a year after the GBA came out.

    I grew up in the 80's and 90's, so I love your channel. And it's funny, but I ordered Shantae a couple days ago to play on my 20 year old GBC. Keep up the good work. Best regards. Rick.

    Oh cool, Amazing Tater is the sequel to Kwirk, one of the games I had for my DMG. (Still have that DMG _Game Brick,_ but not Kwirk! Too bad, great game!)
    EDIT: Dear lord, that dialogue is horrific! Spud's Adventure; proof that a story isn't _always_ an improvement. 😂

    I can understand a collector's anger but at the same time no.. i wouldn't spend 500 dollars on a game UNLESS i already know it and am sure it's good and worth. For me a mario game would be worth that money because i love them and know they're good. But well with an unknown game i wouldn't spend over 100...

    Sadly, the market.for.used games is all to often overpriced; making it impossible for.most people to collect an entire library for some retro systems,.especially when.some systems have, 1,000/2,000/ or more games. As a result of cost and lack of space, most gamers don't get to experience most.of.tje.games.on a system.

      As we have seen with some.games regardless.the format/media used, or wither it is for a.console, PC, mobile, etc; some games have been lost to history.
