Practically overwhelmed the family Christmas party talking about all the Rhodes tips. FINALLY, a granddaughter said she didn't know why I hadn't gotten chickens already, so I have one family ally.
We were told to wait up to just under a year. We were also told with our gilts to expect that we only jet 2 or 3 piglets from each gilt their first time. There is a chance for a large litter, but not super high chance. Good luck!!
I have things arranged so that my chickens can get into where my bachelor herd of pigs is, but the pigs cannot get into where the chickens are, so the chicken feed is safe. The chickens do a good job of cleaning up after the pigs, including cleaning stuff right off the pigs bodies. If you can figure out how to let the chickens in with the pigs, but not the pigs with the chickens, then you have the best of both worlds. A door to small for the pigs but big enough for the chickens? Or... they may just fly over those low hog panels. I'm betting the latter will happen once the chickens discover there are food scraps to be had in the pig pen.
Swedish farmer had pigs in center of greenhouse, with chickens around them. Seperated by hot wire. I think you met him on your homestead when they visited usa a few years ago.
Good luck. I've got my breeder pigs separated by hog panels and I've been told that if the girl holds still the boar can get the job done through the fence. I'm hoping it doesn't happen. I don't want ours together till February.
🇳🇱NL.A very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2021 with greetings from the Netherlands Hans. Here 12 degrees Celsius and again no white Christmas.🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄👍👍👍👍👍👍🍀❤️💥💥💥
I don’t think you’re gonna get a 10 piglet litter from one young pig. It’s better to start your breeding program with a proven pair that has produced what you’re looking for. Your other sow should be mature and proven.
You'll be amazed at what a single strand of electric fence on your hog panels will do !! 8-10" off the ground will keep them OFF the fence.. be sure you have it all around the inside of each pigs enclosure! (If you haven't noticed vulvular swelling on the gilt, she probably HASN'T come into heat yet..it's pretty obvious when they do!)🐖🐖

Yes, that's what we're expecting too.
lol your kids sword fighting in the background everywhere.
Glad you caught that little Easter egg for ya.
Arun is fun. Hope the pigs didnt get into any of that crazy love. God bless!
No such thing as a bad dad joke 🤣
Glad to know I'm always safe with you :)
Big fence= big pigs! Put a separator in the middle of their pen, feed and water buckets. They can lay side by side with a fence between!🐷🐖
I love how the kiddos are always sword fighting in the background 😂
Glad you liked that little Easter egg
Wishing you the best Christmas ever. Thank you for all you do .
Merry Christmas from our homestead to yours!!!❤❤❤
Merry Christmas!

Same thing can happen with dogs, rabbits and goats. Probably many more.
I feel like you want to go with "big papa" so when the grandkids call you it you can tell them, "I love it when you call me big papa."
Merry Christmas!!!
Pigs and chickens together, that's a protein green house.😊

I love this Title!
Dad jokes for the rest of us! Glad you caught that.
Pigs might eat the chickens. I suggest a hot wire between the pigs and the chickens. My pigs climb hog panels and get out.
You continually improve. Well done.
