Rick is correct, all of Petey’s best years there was a veteran on the team (Tanev, Schenn, Cole) that most likely kept Miller at bay enough to let Petey flourish. Brad Richardson basically said in his interview that he told Miller to back off on Petey, but Miller likely has no fear of Richardson. Schenn got into it on the ice with Miller at the end of a period once and Garland had to come between them
Just because he had 89 pts last year, doesn't mean his body language and demeanor didn't seem miserable either. Or are we assuming pts = happiness in the market/situation? All I'm saying is he hasn't seemed happy in a couple years at least. I don't think that's a crazy statement.
Hughes has been the player almost single-handedly keeping the Canucks in the playoff race.... but he is also the captain of the team. He needs to be the one to bridge both parties to push them forward. Maybe the Canucks should see if Jonathan Toews is willing to join the team as a bottom-6 centre to bring some leadership.
100% I would argue Hughes and Lankinen have held the Canucks together this year thus far. I think Lankinen has been very unsung this year in terms of keeping them in games.
I have a feeling if they put together a string of wins, and both players are playing or trending towards being their top on ice selves, a lot of weight will be lifted and we'll hear about "they finally reconciled, and things seem to be in the rear mirror!"

I always go back to the 94 team and there were veteran players like Tim Hunter and Dave Babych around, who can settle these young guys and showed them what it is like to be a pro. The current Canucks team lack such a veteran player (I can't imagine Tyler Myers being able to fill that role) to fill that role - Hughes is the best player but he doesn't come across as someone who can sit Miller and Petey down and get them onto the same page...
I used to have doubts that general managers and club presidents did not make big decisions when it came to negotiating the top $ contracts. Now I am doubting that even team owners have control over what they pay their top players. I think that the noise around the fact Petterson wasn’t signed close to the deadline last year forced the league to intervene and had the team sign Petterson to what the league determined he should be paid. They did this to maintain their control over the narrative and force the team and the player to avoid free agency in the summer. I can’t think of any other reason how Petterson was signed to that kind of money.
I just find it so unbelievable that two players not liking each other based on personalities can be the reason for both of them underperforming. If anything, outperforming the other guy should be a motivation to try harder. The only reason I can think of is that Millers general behavior, not against Petey, but to everyone around him is generally toxic and brings people down.
Have Miller and Petterson been on the same line this season? Might struggle for another centre but it’s at the point now where this needs to work or be broken. Roll the dice, load up the top line for a while maybe they’ll be forced to up their game
