@@cpl8168 I mean with things like tendonitis sure you can skate and still do a lot of things, but from personal experience your body is just more scared of doing certain things, I don't always think it's a mentality issue. I think sometimes when he's ripping these hard slappers or wants to accelerate more I think it hurts, even if it hurts just a little. Therefore when you try to do those thigns in game you just kinda freeze up more.
I should tell my boss that the pressure of my paycheck is really getting to me and that's why my performance hasn't been good lately. I wonder what he'll say.
The one thing that makes sense is that he’s just mentally fragile and it’s all become too much. Contract, media, injury, pressure, nhl quality physicality, opposition figuring him out, confidence. It’s a lot to push through and it’s starting to look like he can’t.
So he managed to get through all those painful years of the Canucks missing thr playoffs by wide margins....comes off one of his best years and now playing for a winning team....suddenly he can't take it?? No if he was fragile he would have cracked a long time ago. Look at all the hissy fits Bedard is having in Chicago...we never seen that with Petey when the Canucks were bottom of the div.
@@baronbayne9899I don't think so. Relatively speaking he isn't under more pressure now than when he entered the league as a high draft pick with high expectations and little experience to lean on. If you're correct, then shouldn't he have experienced a gradual decline? The reality is, he dominated until early March this year, and then fell off the map basically overnight. Did he just wake up to some negative eureka moment?
Petey is someone I have a lot of trust and confidence in. He's not gonna be like JT who wears everyone on his sleeves and you see all his ups and downs(he was toxic when the team was under Bruce and Bo). Petey is quiet and at his best when he's all business and just left to do his thing. Worst thing the Canucks can do is trade him, as the return will be low due to his current slump, and trading him will likely see him go to a team willing to shelf him to fully recover and you know he's gonna be motivated to torch his disbelievers by putting up career numbers everywhere. Give him time(it might be a whole down year, but he probably needed to be sat from late March last year for at least 2-3 month), and he's a pretty solid bet to get back to his groove. Unlike guys who rely too much on physical gifts, Petey's a perfectionist who likes to polish every little tool in his bag until they become options to be deployed when the chances arise.
Why would you have any trust or confidence in a loser like this? This is the second time in his career he's just decided to disappear for months on end. he cost his team bigtime last playoffs. He's garbage.
We can speculate about what might be going on, regardless, I cannot imagine the amount of pressure he feels right now with all this extra talk going on. I just hope he gets help with whatever he needs so he can start feeling his best. ❤
if you got knee injury before, you'll understand how scary it is to make it worse, or even became handicap. for NHL star like he is, its nightmare. so give him a time
For all the Flak he takes, I hope he can find his game again. Because our roster looks even more deep and solid than last year. With Demko on the way back, we could be a real force in the playoffs.
Speed doesn’t necessarily explain why his performance is a “faltering ”performance. Hockey isn’t all rush offense... Puck possession and scoring opportunities are a big factor in reasons why he may be slower. When does he get the puck and what are his options? The same can be said of shot speed. Think quality over quantity and where or why the shot is taken. Speed of shot doesn’t guarantee a “quality” goal. Id probably recommend observing how teams play him when he’s on the ice and where they act to shut him down. I.e. is it always on the outside or just inside Don’t forget, Gretzky didn’t do it all by himself. It’s a team sport. Dont forget coaching staff maybe they want him to think (and this play) a certain way. Maybe they are in his head to think back check more.. food for thought ✌🏻
He'll find it soon I think. I think he's being deployed more defensively in the system as well which might be because of his performance but it would affect his numbers more. If he finds another gear and has a great couple of weeks he'll be at least a point per game player and contributing defensively. Miller is definitely our scoring centre at the minute so it's not like we're massively struggling
I just want the old Petey back. This career slump really sucks. I'm such a big fan of his. But to be fair to him, the whole team is playing poorly lately.
If it is tendonitis, resting it might not help at all. You can rest for 3 months and there is chance it might come back right away. If that's the scenario, I think surgery is the only option. I am not expert though, I just had it myself years ago.
I feel like one thing people don't mention is that Petey said himself that he isn't 100%. And giving the nature of tendonitis, that definitely appears to be true. Tendonitis doesn't fully heal over time, it randomly flares up -- so missing practices to heal won't do much.
i hate to think its just simply he doesnt want to be in van anymore would hate to see him go and regain his form i really hope he can get this figured out soon we need top form petey van better not trade him anytime soon
I wonder what would happen if we just stopped talking about him for the rest of the season. Fans stopped hyping him up and booing him. Basically letting him go. No hate or love.
Even for a month ago, this video didn't age well. Petey is so under appreciated in VanCity, Especially his defensive game. He buried another 2 last night in San Jose. I think his interview style does rub some people the wrong way but I love his game. Never underestimate this guy. You'll regret it.
I did give his defensive play props in the video. I still don’t think he’s playing normally but he’s definitely improved since this video. Also I love his interview style haha, especially when he’s his blunt self like he was in his most recent interview about the Miller situation
This isn’t a real take is it? He’s been one of the hardest working players his entire career. It’s the top league in the world, if you have an injury plaguing you it can easily make you fall off and look average. There’s no doubt in my mind what has happened to him is physical.
@@NGG1983 Oh bullshit, he's never put in the work to really improve his weaknesses. It's why he's still so skinny and so incredibly weak on his skates.
this player is not a canuck in 12 months, there is no way. in a market like vancouver, a slump like this will ruin all ties with the fanbase, media and frontoffice, its just easier to trade him. and i think lots of teams will take a chance despite the 11 million dollar contract. vancouver should be happy the "upside" will make him tradeable without retaining salary.
it's going to ruin his relationship with teammates too. No one is happy about this. THe only one not extremely upset about it is pettersson, because he clearly doens't give half a fuck about anything to do with hockey.
No team will touch this contract with a 11.6 foot pole! First of all, which team actually has room for 11.6m for the next 8 years? Add to that the uncertainly of his performance and even of his desire to play hockey and you've got a pile of crap stacked 92m meters high. Trading him would require a combination of retaining $10m salary a year or 5-6 first rounders and getting nothing in return. Best course of action is if Petey will void his contract on his own. How to do that will require help from management, teammates, and fans to chase him out of this city for good.
I really just think his confidence is shot. He doesn't smile anymore either. I think he's just mentally not there anymore, his body language has been really bad and you can tell he's not who he was. He's scared to hold the puck, he seems to pass it off as quickly as he can. Likely cause physically he'd get worked over by a 14 year old. I am amazed that this guy hasn't bulked up. With his height, his frame could very easily handle 200 pounds and he'd be an absolute force out there. But even at like 185-190 at least he could handle light shoves more than he currently does. A couple games ago, I swear, he got shoved over 3 times in the span of 5 seconds. I have to imagine he plays with that in the back of his mind. Knowing the lightest shove is gonna topple him over. So he passes the puck off as soon as possible. We've been talking about him being injured for months now. If he was, they would have just sat him. Team has no problems resting players. They did it with Cole and Lindholm late last year. I am sure our budding superstar player would also have been given games off. Miller touched the ice ONCE in preseason cause he had something nagging. So I am of the mindset he's physically healthy. Unless for some reason he's the one player the coaching staff just won't allow extra rest. Which would be really weird.
Such an amazing dude and hockey conductor of elegance shot hits and dekes. But i starting to belive the most belivable explanation is that he is somewhat depressed or mentally blocked right now. It can take several years. Playing in Colorado or better Carolina or San Jose would be much easier for him right now.
Think about this. Before the season started he said he didnt want to negotiate until the end of the season wanting to prove he was a 100 point player (and get paid like one)and the previous season was no fluke. At the start of season he came out, like shot out of a cannon, playing better than he ever has imo. Driving play and hitting, actually being way more physical than normal. Then right around when his production tailed off he suddenly was in a rush to sign a contract. Was he hiding an injury from the team🤔 I dont know I still lean towards hes having some sort of mental breakdown.
honestly, not sure where you got the stats, but the stuff like top shot speed probably happened once, and were only like 10% of the way through this season. something like average shot speed is something that I'm more worried about, and average skating speed. he hasn't done a lot but constantly talking about it won't help him fix it. it's like telling someone afraid of dogs, "oh don't worry this one is nice" or "he's all bark and no bite" it doesn't solve the underlying issue
The stats relating to his top shooting/skating speeds are from the NHL Edge website which tracks that data for every player. The other stats like shots per 60 are either from NaturalStatTrick or Moneypuck!
he literally disappeared at the all star break and this season isn't looking too promising. i'm having trouble with the injury explanation when he didn't missed a practice or a game last year and he had the summer to mend but he looks like the same guy he was last february.

Jersey burning armchair coaches. He’s learning a complete game. Teams target/ double team him more. Hello?? Takes awhile to get new tricks. He’s a smart player. Even Huggy and Mills cough the puck up that results in losses

Welll, the Canucks just got rid of the terrible Louis Eriksson contract so it seemed perfect timing to sign another Millstone contract... 11.6 million a year?!? Really?? If he would be injured Toccet would have put him on LTIR The skill is all there - but the character might be on par with that skill and many times big money overwhelms the little character that was there in the first place. Spoiled players don't have the urgency to work hard since they were told over the years that they are the best - the new contract merely confirmed his own bias.
I honestly think a trip to players assistance program to work through his mental state wouldn’t be the end of the world. He’s gotta work out what Evers going on with professionals away from the media the team the everything. Laine did it last year, if that’s what it takes to get petey back I’m all for it. But 8 years of a scared petey with no confidence is going to kill any chance at a cup goodbye.
I could see him taking that route. It's the easiest way to get out of having to put in any work and it gets the fans off his back. Plus you can brand your trade request as a fresh start. Unfortunately for him, you can only pull that card once.
he's still a good playmaker & if he scores 100 points all assists? good enough - just get him linemates that he clicks with (he'll set 'em up, they'll knock it down
I think the supposed "fans" think more about his contract than EP40 does. And I dont think, I KNOW, those same "fans" care more about the money than he does.
At least he seems to be on an upwards trend atm. I've always thought it was a weird coaching decision to place him in front of the net in most scenarios.. that's not where he shines.. But now tell me what the fuck happened to Loui Eriksson..
I wish people would just let him and the team figure it out. Do they seriously think all the hate and scrutinizing is going to somehow help? For once can we please just not chase players out of our city? No wonder we have a hard time drawing stars here. Who the fuck would want to come here and be harrassed endlessly by the fans and the media.
If he has a serious lingering injury like tendinitis, why don’t they just rest him and get his body 100% right. What’s the point of playing him for 80 games when he’s simply not productive, something like that doesn’t just heal itself. Sure, you’ll nurse him to the playoffs but then Is he going to magically produce with the same knee injury?
Funny how Elias didn’t want to wait until the end of last season to sign a new contract. I knew he was getting overpaid due to how inconsistent he is. Got paid big bucks and doesn’t care for his fans or teammates. We will never win a cup with this soft boy
I think he is savant. I remember when he ballet pirouetted in live play. Dude understands how soft play gives play against the ideal which is just hyping hard slaps and bucket busting. He's now in trying to do status quo mode. And, even that is impressive. For quick dick sake; a smart going with quo? Waste of talent.

I honestly think he is depressed which is kind of an injury, but a mental one.
It's not the pressure of a big contract. It's the complacency after a big contract!
Bang on
So he's a pathetic weak minded loser who is a massive detriment to his team.
@D.Peterson91 yes. That’s what I’m saying. The combination of a nagging injury with everything else I mentioned is suddenly becoming too much.
Unlike guys who rely too much on physical gifts, Petey's a perfectionist who likes to polish every little tool in his bag until they become options to be deployed when the chances arise.
nah
Why would you have any trust or confidence in a loser like this?
This is the second time in his career he's just decided to disappear for months on end. he cost his team bigtime last playoffs.
He's garbage.
No thnx. What has he done for us lately?
Not too friggin much....
@@maqywhaq he’s lazy selfish trash and he always will be.
11.6 million dollar passenger. Pathetic player, pathetic person.
We can speculate about what might be going on, regardless, I cannot imagine the amount of pressure he feels right now with all this extra talk going on.
I just hope he gets help with whatever he needs so he can start feeling his best. ❤
Most overpaid player in the NHL. And it’s not even close
if you got knee injury before, you'll understand how scary it is to make it worse, or even became handicap. for NHL star like he is, its nightmare. so give him a time
For all the Flak he takes, I hope he can find his game again. Because our roster looks even more deep and solid than last year. With Demko on the way back, we could be a real force in the playoffs.
Please upload more often your real good
Haha thanks so much! Trying my best to balance life and making videos, but will definitely keep making as much content as I can!
I.e. is it always on the outside or just inside
Don’t forget, Gretzky didn’t do it all by himself.
Miller is definitely our scoring centre at the minute so it's not like we're massively struggling
my fantasy pool needs this guy to get going
I just want the old Petey back. This career slump really sucks. I'm such a big fan of his. But to be fair to him, the whole team is playing poorly lately.
I imagine it’s a mental block, I believe in him though. Everyone goes through it say some point, he will break through it
If it is tendonitis, resting it might not help at all. You can rest for 3 months and there is chance it might come back right away. If that's the scenario, I think surgery is the only option. I am not expert though, I just had it myself years ago.
He got his bag doesn’t care
@@TerryMcLean-tg1jq The dumbest of takes...
@@troubleondemand7703 tendonitis is a bitch for sure...its been 1 year for me and my leg hasn't been the same
Hockey is a team sport and we see what happened when McDavid was injured. Get a couple good players in return for him to add depth.
He’s doing good in every way except for putting the puck in the net other teams are just covering him too much
I feel like one thing people don't mention is that Petey said himself that he isn't 100%. And giving the nature of tendonitis, that definitely appears to be true. Tendonitis doesn't fully heal over time, it randomly flares up -- so missing practices to heal won't do much.
Wow, a selfish pathetic loser makes excuses for his pathetic play.
I am shocked. SHOCKED.
It randomly flares up any time he needs an excuse for half assing it.
i hate to think its just simply he doesnt want to be in van anymore would hate to see him go and regain his form i really hope he can get this figured out soon we need top form petey van better not trade him anytime soon
He loves Vancouver and Alvin isn’t dumb, he will never trade Petey.
Then why doesn't the coward ask for a trade?
I wonder what would happen if we just stopped talking about him for the rest of the season. Fans stopped hyping him up and booing him. Basically letting him go. No hate or love.
Could be the bulk up they demanded of him.. it can be hard to adjust too
Even for a month ago, this video didn't age well.
Pretty good analysis. Hope you’re right.
How many 5 vs 5 goals does he have since he signed his big contract?
He *is* back
Petey fell in love with golf, and now we suffer.
Same was said about Ovi last season.
He is made for life now, he dont have to try no more. Thats the mentality of these guys these days.
This isn’t a real take is it? He’s been one of the hardest working players his entire career. It’s the top league in the world, if you have an injury plaguing you it can easily make you fall off and look average. There’s no doubt in my mind what has happened to him is physical.
Nope.
Every other guy on the team is onboard with putting in the work. It's just one pathetic loser who thinks he doesn't have to move his damn feet.
How to do that will require help from management, teammates, and fans to chase him out of this city for good.
technically makes 14 mill this year btw
Oh those shot #ers and speed changes are really telling. He must have a hand/ wrist injury of some sort
Was he hiding an injury from the team🤔
I dont know I still lean towards hes having some sort of mental breakdown.
I think this is most accurate. He may be going through some kind of deep depression.
He’s a Swede got his bag doesn’t care
@ he doesn’t care
honestly, not sure where you got the stats, but the stuff like top shot speed probably happened once, and were only like 10% of the way through this season. something like average shot speed is something that I'm more worried about, and average skating speed. he hasn't done a lot but constantly talking about it won't help him fix it. it's like telling someone afraid of dogs, "oh don't worry this one is nice" or "he's all bark and no bite" it doesn't solve the underlying issue
The stats relating to his top shooting/skating speeds are from the NHL Edge website which tracks that data for every player. The other stats like shots per 60 are either from NaturalStatTrick or Moneypuck!
His brother Emil ( Timrå IK, SHL) also has some enormous ups and downs. Clear similarities or just coincidences?
he literally disappeared at the all star break and this season isn't looking too promising. i'm having trouble with the injury explanation when he didn't missed a practice or a game last year and he had the summer to mend but he looks like the same guy he was last february.

Except he went down about a month before signing the contract. If it was about the money he would've kept going until that very day.
Just got to keep the faith. It's surely a confidence issue. Get off his back and let him play. It'll return. 100%
Welll, the Canucks just got rid of the terrible Louis Eriksson contract so it seemed perfect timing to sign another Millstone contract... 11.6 million a year?!? Really??
If he would be injured Toccet would have put him on LTIR
The skill is all there - but the character might be on par with that skill and many times big money overwhelms the little character that was there in the first place.
Well, seem like he is back on track again, so stop whining...
Pettersson will be fine, there are only 26 players in the history of the NHL who have reached 400 points by his age, he is in elite company.
Maybe it's because there's a new up-and-coming Elias Petterson
Most likely, defenders have just learned how to stop him.
he's still a good playmaker & if he scores 100 points all assists? good enough - just get him linemates that he clicks with (he'll set 'em up, they'll knock it down

Lets not talk about elias pettersson.
