Sweet has always been one of my favorites over the years. I remember buying Lord Foul's Bane back in 1983 because of the artwork. (yeah I'm old). It still sticks in my mind after all this time, even though he has done better art since then, I just love that cover. I also admit buying Runelords because of the cover. Come to think of it I bought Sword of Shannara at the same time I got Lord Foul's Bane, again because of that awesome cover.
Great video concept! I completely agree with your take on how enticing cover art can and should be. For me the immediate one that comes to mind is The Dragon Reborn from The Wheel of Time. I saw it on the shelf as a kid too young for it but I was enthralled! It steered me to fantasy more my age, and then eventually to The Wheel of Time, my favorite fantasy series. I COMPLETELY AGREE about the og Wheel of Time covers being better than the modern ones. They are laughably off on how the characters should look… But that’s fine! They capture the atmosphere perfectly. Another great one is Nice Dragons Finish Last, and all the books in that series. One of my favorite series ever, very unique and fun. The cover art drew me in to give it a chance. I could go on and on so I think I’ll just stop there 😅
@@jonathankoan oh I can’t recommend the Nice Dragons Finish Last series enough lol It’s an urban fantasy that is NOT a gritty, misogynistic noir. Wildly inventive with such fun characters. While there is lots of action, the protagonist consistently tries to avoid conflict and violence, and shines as a diplomat (much to the chagrin of his MANY dragon siblings and mother). So much fun 😁🐲
Good list, which I agree with. Other more modern covers I like are The shadow of the gods cover by john Gwynne, Age of myth by michael J Sullivan, mort by terry pratchett ( kirby cover) and dragonbone chair by Tad Williams (michael Whelan).

Great video!
Thank you for watching!
@@jonathankoan Loved the video idea! Most those covers were fantastic! I'm hooked now and am watching all your videos haha
Always loved the Hildebrand cover of the 1977 Sword of Shanara. I could stare at it for a long time. In fact, I have!
Me too! So cool.
Great video! I didn’t know that so many of the covers I like are Darryl K Sweet lol.
He's the best. Love his work.

I do like the cover for Shadow of the Gods. I haven’t looked into the others, but I’ll check them out.
Covers are marketing tools
It’s definitely worked, as I’ve bought several books mentioned in this video because of the covers.
@@jonathankoan not saying it’s bad just saying that phrase applies to everything except books
