  • Well... I went and watched the show "Forged In Fire" with my kids. Then of coarse my son and daughter said, "That looks fun, we should make some knives." So, being the most awesome dad on the planet that I am, I said "Heck yeah we should!", and that's how it all began. So after a little research and watching guys on TH-cam like Black Bear Forge, I came to the decision to build a Forge Press. What a fun project, and man can that thing squish some metal! We're talking 35 tons of smashing power, that's something the Hulk could even be proud of! I definitely see some knife making with my kids in the near future. Enjoy the DIY Forge Press Video, and don't forget to Like and Subscribe!

    This is definitely a Need vs Want issue for me

      Oh it’s definitely a need.. but then again everything I want seems to become a need but then I have to convince the wife that it’s a need and that’s the tricky part.😜

    What are the wires connected to get the cylinder to extend and retract? I see the pedals, but not what they are connected to that enables reverse flow. Great video by the way!

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks J Topel..There are two solenoids that are activated. One for up and one for down. If the up pedal is hit it activates the solenoid and opens the valve for the up hose and the opposite for down. Hope that makes sense.

    Can you share what power unit you used & where I came from? Thanks. Awesome video!

      Hi Paul, I scored the hydraulic power pack unit off of Craigslist for $500. I can’t find the same unit I have but here is one with the same specs and basically the same thing I am using. I can tell you, they aren’t cheap but I have occasionally seen them used for sell online at good prices.

      I bought a used pump from marketplace. Can’t remember the brand, but it pumps upward of 11gpm

    How did you calculate what size of beams to use?

      @MrMarkRoads ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest he had

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark R is correct.. I used the largest beams I could get my hands on that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. I checked with every metal building fabricators in my area to see if they had cutoffs from previous jobs. I lucked out and got these for $200. 😃.

    The rig looks awesome man. I too am thinking of building my own press. A little problem Though. I life in a country that has little or no component for building a press. My only solution is to orde via Amazon or other company that do online order. The electric pump your using looks better then when you do the manual up and down via a Control Valve. I was wondering what kind of pump assemble you are using. I hear you talk about a solenoid switch's inside the tank. i would be happy if you can provide more info about the power pack unit. I mean where did you buy yours and which website can i look for more info about this type of power pack. Hopefully i can then make a decision when i want to buy one. Also, where did you get that beast of a Hydraulic Cylinder. Thank u in advance and hope to see you begin with your knife journey...👌👌👍🤙

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching my video .. To answer your question, I bout my power unit second hand and it already came set up with the solenoids on it. The solenoids just open and close the valves for the hydraulic flow so it can be controlled with electronic switch. This is how I use the foot pedal. My unit came with 6hp motor and 11 gpm pump which sits inside the Hydraulic fluid reservoir attached to the underside of the motor. The u it’s can be pretty pricy new and may not be the most economical way to run a press but I just happened to luck out. I think it would be fairly easy to build your own unit, the pump it uses is very a very standard pump you would fine on wood splitters. As far as the hydraulic cylinder goes, I found it online at www.surpluscenter.com/hydraulics/
      🙏🤙🤙

    where did you get your parts from?

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the I beam from a local builder that builds steel buildings, they were cut offs. The hydraulic ram I bought online from hydraulic surplus, and the power unit I found on buy sell trade used.👍

    TH-cam either has too much great content or the promoting algorithm is broken. Your videos tend to have less than 1k views. And this isn't the only clearly very proficient maker channel with such a low amount of publicity I've seen lately.
    I remember a time when having an audio where you could actually here talking properly was "production quality" in the maker community here.
    Here's hoping the youtube algorithm wakes up some day soon.

    • @ShalohaCreations
      @ShalohaCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sure haven’t figured out the algorithm yet but sure hope at some point it will start to work in my favor. Thanks for noticing all the work I put into this stuff, much appreciated 🙏🤙

      @@ShalohaCreations In case you're interested, Veritasium (science channel) made two videos on the subject; “My video went viral. Here’s why” and “Clickbait is unreasonably effective”. They're not gospel, but have a fair few good points with some data to back it up.
      I mean I personally kinda despise the generic youtube clickbatey stuff (shocked face, pointing or looking at something, an arrow pointing at it, a title like "You'll never believe how good this toast tastes when it's prepared with the SECRET ingredient!"), but I can't deny that it works. At least for now.
      You don't have to sell your soul to the devil and there is such a thing as over-doing it, but the amount of youtube-uninterest your videos get, it just makes me sad. There's no reason (good content quality, non-marginally interesting subject matter, decent sound quality and editing) that this channel shouldn't be able to do a lot better.

      Hi Katy, there are no plans at this time for this build.. I may in the future start providing plans for my builds, but haven’t gotten that techy yet;) I basically read a bunch of forums and looked at a lot of pictures on line, to build the one I have. If you ever decide to build and have any questions I can answer for you along the way, I would be more than happy to help. Thanks
