I have yet to see a video lauding the capabilities of the segway type chairs going UP a kerb. Every chair I've ever used can get down a kerb, some not comfortably, but they get down. If I'm going to spend as much as £17,000 on a balance chair, I want to know that I can get out of the road in a small Cornish village that is not adapted for the lessabled.
As a potential wheelchair replacement it has potential, but only for very short term use. The more than 90 degree knee bend is a surefire circulation issue, and as someone already mentioned the fixed sides mean no transfers on and off the machine for most para's and quad's. Good luck. If you're talking about manual chairs, that's often true. Less so for powerchair users. As a C3 quad (x14 years) I don't have the option of using a manual chair.

This is a great idea but I think I would like to have handles in the back so that if I want to carry some groceries I can connect groceries to the back or carry art supplies I also would like it to be more stable and wouldn't be able to go up the ramp of a wheelchair fan or bus I live in Detroit a lot of time they do not let the ramps down low enough or there's no sidewalks is this thing safe enough to go up a set a 90 degree angle or however angle safely up and down PS how much is the thing weighing and as well can it get through snow and sand and where can you buy it will insurance pay for it can this be operated by a one handed person and can it be switched from left to right my left hand was caught in a fire I lost it as a child can you switch devices up so they can reason with one hand I also have no legs so can it be used with a one-on-one hand controller which can be switch side to side

You have to remember that forward and backward movement rely on you shifting your weight. So, if you hang shopping on the back you will be bent over double in order to obtain forward momentum. Then when you sit up to brake the weight of the bags will keep you moving backwards. It's all about weight distribution.

David Hermanson and old wheel chair gives users a work out. Wheelchair user have rock hard upper bodies using the old ones
