What?!! Thank you so much for telling me. I'll just take a pass on this one; there are so many other wonderful Maugham stories available to us, now. Hopefully, it will be updated.
Yes, skipper was Red, Nielson loved Sally but she clung to Red's immage and never returned love offered. Red turned into this lard blob that Sally did not recognise. So sand she had Nielson who adored her and sha clung to the immage of a lover long gone.
What are the brief, "Surprised poultry", noises used by narrators to *transition, (From one sentence to another ?/paragraph to another?), within a story called? Thank you so very much for providing the classic literature repository I've been so heart-warmingly immersed in for several weeks now 🎉🙏🌱🛤💝😁
Grin and bear it. ❤ The torment of the human soul. That is the story finished. But we pray to the same God of Joshua and great hope and help abounds. We can look forward to our God of Greatness, compassion, love and peace. Our lives do matter to God. The author can express life so well for us.
I am assuming this is the complete story. I appreciate that AI allows so much to be available for listening. If this is the entire story then the last sentence should be read very differently. 🙂

@@gottasay4766…..I have often wondered at the compulsion (seemingly all) atheists labour under to, “rebut/correct/redirect” any & all comments made by people of faith.…And “compulsion,” it is…. Thousands of daily comments stating belief in the latest conspiracy theories go without reply-but allude to faith, and, certain as a nasty rash after brushing against poison ivy, The Atheist is compelled to “rap” the little truant on the knuckles….(Makes one wonder why The Atheist would read Maugham-a writer known for his deep faith )?
I love the music at the beginning and end of each reading. It creates the atmosphere for the entire plot.
What a way to leave us hanging
I guess some talented authors enjoy this.

Stupendous story.
I have never heard SM so lyrical as he is in this vignette.
I thought it would turn out that the captain was “Red” 😋
will post the conclusion that was left off in 20 minutes
Help!
The story is cut off before its conclusion.
It's too bad the ending is not there. The ending is the point of the story.

The gods we have created to explain our self knowledge are as puny as our self knowledge. Even your god.
