    Awesome video. This information is kind of tough to find outside of an instructor who directly knows it.

    It’s my understanding the Gravel pit arrival is mainly being rejected because of the construction on anchorage international on Rwy 15/33. Basically they are down to using only one runway for the summer. So it will likely come back once they stop departing heavies that direction. :-)

      This was exactly the case. The airport was not any busier, but with 33 closed and only having 7R as the arrival runway and 7L as the primary dep runway, VFR into LHD descending over the top of both was undesirable. Was the Tuder Overpass arrival safer, not in my opinion because now all east bound or inbound traffic from the East are in direct conflict with the 7L departures. It was a poor plan for construction mitigation. ANC/LHD has some very strong controllers, but with all facility's I have experience with, they also have some very questionable ones. There is a guy up there we all called smooth jazz. He works at the center now, although I hear he was trying to come back to ANC. You'll know him by his "see ya".

    Curious on your use of "...for six two delta" in accepting clearances/instructions. Potential for confusion if someone hears it as "...462D" Worth considering ditching the "for" me thinks ;-)

    That’s a lot of airspace in a little place! I often forget how spoiled we are here in the Midwest.

    Great video. Very informative and educational. At some point can you do a video on how you hook the cameras up to the outside of the airplane?

      Glad you found it helpful. Take not that the approach altitudes have changed since this video was made so make sure you do proper pre-flight planning before making the trip.

    You stated the route correctly (perfectly) in the "preflight briefing," however, at 6:45 you are flying between the Seward Highway (Route 1) and Lake Otis Parkway, skirting the edge of Class C airspace, about 3 to 3.5 miles west of the Tudor Overpass arrival at that point in the video. The route should be flown east of Campbell BLM strip (CSR airport) to the "corner" of Muldoon and Tudor. That corner is actually a curve which changes Muldoon Road southbound into Tudor Road, traveling westbound. Also, that "corner" is at the south end of building development and the CSR airport runway (sitting in the middle of undeveloped land) points directly at that "corner" like an arrow. Perhaps ATC gave you a short-cut that wasn't mentioned in the video. ATC has given me strange shortcuts to/from LHD strip.

      Yes, I agree. The route flown was not the Tudor Overpass Arrival as published in the supplement. This path flown in the video and the hard left turn at the Tudor overpass means that this pilot likely flew through the Seward Highway Segment. This is a specific section of airspace described in the supplement with altitude restrictions and communication requirements as well.

    What airplane do you have as the thumb? I want to say Pilatus PC 6 but it looks heavily modified. Anyone?
    Nevermind. Def not a Pilatus. Wishful thinking.

    Why do they always Talk so so fast ? You would think with the Danger involved a More Concise and legible communication would occur ? I have always wanted to ask this question...maybe someone will chime in and help me understand the WHY {Authorities Always Talk so fast}

    Don't forget the special flight rules area! Jesus, that is an ugly slice of airspace around Anchorage. Too much squished into 1 area.

      But it is very cool to be flying over Knik Arm at 2300 ft while an E-3 AWACS, C-17 or F-22 flies under you :-)

    Ridiculous and complicated. Why in the world did they do that to them selves? It’s Alaska, all that empty land - why not stretch things out a bit? Makes no sense! 😒
