Black Tambourine were already using vacuum cleaners in their music for no logical reason at this point, but loveless turns the guitar itself into womblike frequencies. I suggest Kevin was simply on a different level of auditory appreciation. This sort of infinity sound taps into something ethereal and not logical to the human experience - something we experienced before being aware of experience itself.
Also notice this remaster is considered better as it diminishes higher frequencies. Lower frequency white noise is considered more calming to the human ear and more womblike. I was scared to listen to this when it came out especially after that awful Raw Power remaster but this really does improve things. I guess it’s the closest thing to an explanation I can give for something extremely deeply irrational that is critically beloved but also does just sound like complete trash to some people. Rewatched Lost in Translation today for the first time in years. How I didn't pick up on this song during my first viewing is beyond me. I love this. Slow... drawling, but effusive nonetheless

I’ll add - NO ONE, not even Kevin Shields, officially knows the actual lyrics, as they were allegedly forgotten repeatedly and even multitracked over during the recording process - which is actually what makes this song so perfect - but the lyrics I can make out are beautiful, so this is best I can do. There’s conflicting lyrical lines layered on top of each other. It really makes the track. I spent 15 years trying to understand what the big deal was with Loveless was. Every 2-4 years I'd give a few spins and I didn't get it. Honestly didn't understand why everyone raved about it. It wasn't until I heard the analog mix I that I really "got it". The sound on the analog mix is quite a bit beefier than the original mix. It's less indie sounding and more rock. Low end comes through a lot better.
Get better headphones. If you’re gonna like Shoegaze at least get studio cans. Sennheiser HD-280’s are a good beginner solution, because they don’t require an amp or any complex stuff, are pretty neutral and don’t muddle the midrange. There’s better stuff on the market, but there’s diminishing returns. Sony makes Bluetooth over the ear cans that are a bit more expensive, but I’m impressed with them. All music sounds better on a better system, but some really needs it. Please don’t listen to this album with earbuds and write it off. The perfectionism of the production is what really makes gorgeous.
this remaster is sick. upper frequencies are less harsh. pulls you in more.

Notice that small clip of the song before at the beginning? It's on CD1, too. It was never on the '91 CD version.
