    I own this game. Released around the time of Bugs Bunny's 50th birthday anniversary, in the fall of 1990. This game is a side-scrolling platform game where players control Bugs Bunny on a quest to get to his 50th birthday party. He is armed with a mallet that he can swing at various enemies to defeat them, deflect certain projectiles or destroy bricks. He can also collect hearts to restore his health and carrots for bonus points. He can also land on top of enemies without getting damaged. At the end of most levels, Bugs Bunny has to use his mallet to defeat a Warner Brothers cartoon character, such as Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester, or the Tasmanian Devil. These other Looney Tunes characters are trying to stop Bugs because they are all jealous that Bugs gets all the attention. Many of them can be damaged with the mallet or their own projectiles, but Daffy Duck can only be avoided in order to reach a carrot that takes him to the next level. Despite appearing on the cover, Porky Pig does not appear in the game. The gameplay is very similar to Super Mario Bros. 2, another game for NES.

    I remember AVGN destroying this title back in the day so I always stayed away from it. When I finally did go back to it one of the biggest problems like you said is the monotony of it! Great review Bro. loving the channel

      Thanks bro! Yeah it's not as bad as the nerd made it seem, but it's certainly far from good.

    Welcome back Ron! Neve played this one, but I did play the Tiny Toons game while looks much better graphically and from the looks of it, controls much better as well. Great review on this one!

      Tiny Toons is great even though it definitely takes some inspiration from Mario 3. It's a game I've been meaning to get someday. Back when Konami could do no wrong.

      Thanks Joel! Yeah that Tiny Toons games for SNES and Genesis are very well done! Actually I need to add the Genesis Tiny Toons game to my list of game I need to review.

    Nice! In case you wanted to know about more LT games, the Looney Tunes Collector games (Alert and Marvin Strikes Back) are pretty well done adventure games, where you can swap between characters. They're on Game Boy Color and are pretty cheap I recall.

    There are a lot of not-terrible games on platforms. Sometime when you dig into a library, you might tacitly put restriction on yourself that there are no other ways to enjoy your time but this. I can definitely see the appeal of Birthday Bash or other not-terrible games on NES when viewed in that respect. What I'm saying is you could fill up a library with not-bad games or just get the games which are truly good. I don't mean this as an insult to Bugs. There are other similar boring games I like on NES such as Felix the Cat (though, that one has more variety). I think this mindset of liking not-bad games is a holdover from childhood when getting games was a lot more difficult.

    • @RonManGaming
      @RonManGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I like plently of not-terrible games. Heck, I enjoy a lot of dog crap, too. Not every game needs to be a master piece. In short, I agree lol.

    I remember my dad renting this one when I was a kid and it was pretty fun. We ended up beating it before returning it. I haven't played it since but I wouldn't mind trying it again. I've got a soft spot for the Looney Tunes.

    Looks like the developers blew out the candles a little to late on this birthday blowout. I think repetition and a game overstaying it's welcome are some of my biggest gripes. I enjoy that it is at least a beatable game but it's lacking the reward. I might play it just to add to my retro tally for the year but then again if you have better suggestion, that would be great 😊

    • @RonManGaming
      @RonManGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yeah this game overstaying it's welcome was the thing that made it easy for me to want to shut off; it was a struggle to fight that urge! Hmm...have you played Felix the Cat? It's decent, easy, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

    A new RonMan video and it's not even my birthday! It must be Easter instead, hence the Bugs Bunny review! 😂
    Ehhhh what's up, Ron? 🐰 🥕 Where ya been the last month? Wherever it was, I think you overstayed your welcome! 😉 Glad you're back, and hope you had a nice Easter! Oh, and by the way, this game's title reminds me of a movie suggestion: Brian De Palma's Blow Out.

    Great review! Definitely agree with you here - I've played a bit of this on emulator consoles and didn't like it much. It's just very unengaging, which stinks because Kemco _could_ make decent-to-good Looney Tunes platformers later on in the 8-bit machines, at least the Nintendo _handhelds._
    Nothing that would challenge the Capcom's or Sega's 8-bit Disney stuff of course, or Konami's Tiny Toons games, but some good stuff nonetheless. I remember Duck Dodgers on the Game Boy and that one Bugs/Lola game on the Game Boy _Color_ being pretty alright sidescrollers (albeit, very short - especially Duck Dodgers). The only Bugs Bunny games I remembered actually seeing and playing on the NES when I was a kid were the Crazy Castle puzzle games, and I found those super boring - I would've loved a solid lil' sidescrolling platformer instead of a puzzle game, but I just didn't see much in the way of quality Looney Tunes sidescrollers until the 16-bit days I guess.
    EDIT: Nope, never mind. Those two Game Boy games were made by other developers like Sunsoft and Infogrames. Kemco just did not make any Looney Tunes games I care about, I suppose 😄

    • @WhatsOnMyShelf
      @WhatsOnMyShelf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a little known Looney Tunnes GBC platformer based on Tweety (Tweety's High-Flying Adventure ), if you care to explore it. It's not something I'm recommending (I haven't played), but I don't see it pop up often and so maybe you've never tried it.

    • @RonManGaming
      @RonManGaming  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Barry! Yeah too bad this game isn't great. I think just a few minor tweeks (shorten the game and add power ups) would have gone a long way to turning this game from dull and mediocre to short and sweet.

      @@WhatsOnMyShelf Sorry for not responding earlier too - for some reason, TH-cam just sometimes doesn't alert me when people reply to my comments. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
      Anyway, cool! Thanks for mentioning it; even if it's not a recommendation, I'm intrigued and'll look into it. I just like knowing about more games like this; there's a lot of Looney Tunes games, but very few are legit cult classics or as well-liked/well-remembered as Disney retro games or whatever.

    • @WhatsOnMyShelf
      @WhatsOnMyShelf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barry-allenthe-flash8396 Well, maybe that has something to do with the studios behind the cartoony games. Capcom and Konami-licensed games are well-renown. They put people who worked on games such as Mega Man and Castlevania on these games. There may have been more attention to detail than other devs. I say may since I looked at the main developer of the Crazy Castle series called Kotobuki Solution Co, and they have some cult hits like the Sword of Hope games or Dragon's View and Phalanx. It could just be that Capcom / Konami got more chances at the apple (making more games builds experience making games and hence results in building better received games).
      It could also be that some of those cartoon licenses were contemporary while Looney Tunes were some old, enjoyed as reruns. I enjoyed watching both 80s / 90s Disney toons as well as 40s-70s Looney Tunes, but maybe that was not the case with every kid. Maybe not every kid was hyped about old toons. It's just a hypothesis.

    • @GoodVibeCollecting
      @GoodVibeCollecting ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhatsOnMyShelf I grew up playing both BB and CC so I like them both. The CC series is a very deep rabbit hole. Pun intended. The amount of reskins the games have is crazy. One is a Mickey Mouse version, a Ghostbusters version, a Hugo version, a Woody Woodpecker version, etc. It's one of the most confusing game series and it shouldn't be.
