    Don't have a boat yet. Been fishing from a kayak for two years and planning the boat thing and I'm learning all I can before I get one. THANK you so much for putting stuff out there to help us noobs!

    I don't know if it really matters, but I either unplug my trailer lights or turn them off. I have a 19' North River and a EZ-loader trailer the NAME say's it all, pretty EASY. I just let the water come even with the wheel fenders, then drive it up, and the trailer makes the boat follow into place. I do trim up the main motor so the prop is just about 12" to 16" under the water and punch it a little until I feel it rest on the yoke. I nail it EVERY time, I can't take all of the credit. 98% belongs to the EXPENSIVE trailer. LOL... Tony Very NICE video. Tony, I watched your launch, I do a similar style. With one exception, my rope is about 24' and I have hooks on BOTH ends. So I hook one to the boat and the other to the winch hook ( Eliminates having to tie to winch post ) Saves one step, and when the boat floats away. I gently pull forward, unhook from trailer and walk to the dock, if there is one. Thanks Again. Tight Lines Sir.

    • @TopwaterTony
      @TopwaterTony  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you, thank you !!! YEAH i like that double hook idea :) i've never unhooked my lights because they are sealed so the water doesnt get to the bulbs. i load my boat on the trailer different ways. theres other of my videos that show those. share the video and maybe so it might help others :)))) keep catching !!!

    • @paulmonaco1148
      @paulmonaco1148 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony, I don't want to take all of the credit for the double hooks(I'm NOT that smart) I saw it at a boat ramp. LOL. I forgot to mention I have the Ulterra Minn Kota, You know the one that they advertise you can deploy into the water and then drive your truck away to park it, and when you come back to the dock use the remote control to bring it back to you. Well I'm chicken, and haven't had someone with me yet to try it. In case I screw it up. I don't want my boat floating away. I should do a TH-cam video this year trying it. Thanks again, and Tight Lines.

  • @OhMySack
    @OhMySack 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great example. I self launch/recover 99.9% of the time. The biggest mistake people make (almost ALWAYS non-bass fishermen) when recovering their boat is they dip the trailer way too deep. Even in this video, I'd leave a full 12", maybe a tiny bit more, of bunk exposed so the boat can guide itself on and the bow won't miss the mark as it did in this video. Nothing wrong with powering up onto the trailer and nailing it every time. Most of the impoundments I fish have a different angle on the ramp so a lot of times it's necessary to be located right alongside the dock so you can get out of the boat when you're secured on the trailer. It sucks having to get your feet wet when going off the bow.

    • @TopwaterTony
      @TopwaterTony  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah i missed the mark a lil bit lol thanks for watching !!

      Make centering the boat on the trailer much easier even with poor judgment or a cross-current, install some automatic keel centering runners at the back of the trailer.

    Very nicely done!! To many times I get so upset waiting on people to get in or out of the water that have NO idea about courtesy at the ramp....One time a guy loaded finally,and started pulling up so I thought ok now I can go,but he stopped just out of the water to put on tie downs take out drain plug all the stuff you do away from the ramp...Some have no clue!!
    Also nice rig too..

      He was a duck hunter and was following a very strict winter routine that the summer pleasure boater doesn't understand. Forget to pull that plug in winter is a very big mistake. The boat is on a ramp with all the water in the back...pull the plug right then.
      Screw everybody else... they would too.

    Nice job. I have a jet drive and with no rudder on the motor it is hard for me to drive the boat onto the trailer. I usually have to put on a pair of hip boats and get into the water and manually pull the boat onto the trailer and winch it up.

    • @olebiker
      @olebiker 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** Brian, most boat ramps are built far enough into the water that power loading does no harm. If your ramp is so short that your trailer wheels drop off the end of the ramp you have an improperly built ramp or you are trying to load too large a boat on too short a ramp. By the way, my name is Dick so I was not insulted. :-)

    • @beardedyaker9767
      @beardedyaker9767 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do the same I pretty much just focus on my bunks most ramps I leave about a foot of the bunks dry and just use my winch a little. There is nothing wrong with using your winch people be safe, not sorry. I know a guy that barely puts his trailer in the water and uses 3/4 of his winch strap to get the boat on he gets pretty wet lol. He has an expensive boat small flats boat and just chooses to do it that way. Your property, your way.

    So people understand on a bigger boat you will require 2 people at all times. Open your vehicles trunk door to talk to the person as they run it aground into the boat trailer. One thing this video does not show is wave direction, if the current is pushing into the ramp remember you can do a jerk and cut motor action so the front of the boat does not hit the front of the trailer. Otherwise this video is perfect for beginners.

    When I load the front of my boat goes below the front of the trailer roller by the winch. Usually requires me and my dad picking it up to put it on top of the roller.

      You're putting your trailer to deep in the water. Try putting it in not as far and you should be right on it.

    Just got a Nitro 188 Sport, I have the similar trailer, any clue on how I remove the light bulbs on the side of the trailer? New to the whole thing and I'm gonna have to start loading the boat myself. Great video!

      On my trailer I know the lights that are near the fenders are held in with a nut. The ones toward the back if I remember correctly I believe just push through.

    We have a 6000lb boat. It seems like if my husband backs down all the way to the waterline like everyone else on the ramp the roller is too high. When I pull up just a little it’s all good but then when I attach the winch to get it up far enough to secure chain it doesn’t pull easily and sounds like the winch strap is just going to snap. My husband ends up powering on up so I can hook. What are we doing wrong?

    • @TopwaterTony
      @TopwaterTony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not for sure I would have to see exactly what's going on but it sounds like you need to dip the trailer in the water a little deeper

    • @TopwaterTony
      @TopwaterTony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thinking is the bigger the boat the deeper the water has to be to load it easier

    • @TopwaterTony
      @TopwaterTony  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also depends on the angle of the ramp

    I use to unload and load mine myself many years ago with a steep ramp like this but where I live now the ramp has a slow slope so my SUV is in water before my trailer is in good enough, so I have to step out into water. I got to figure something out.
