I have the 5'11 as an intermmediate surfer of 82kg and had quite a different fin experience. I have tried a few combinations but settled on medium performer quads for most conditions. It really looked like you were doing some good surfing on the board and carried good speed between turns. Thanks for another great review.

Great review as always. I have a dominator 1 which I love, I agree that the dominator 2 is very different. I think for WA conditions the D1 is better suited, the rail is lower and the board not as light... I think it works better in our punchy beach breaks that can get windy. I haven't really enjoyed the D2 as much, but now I feel like I should try it as a thruster...

Hi wooly, thanks for the review!
I´m 6`1 and 86kg as you. 44 years old. I got a 6`2 x 21.5 x 44L Board from LSD called "the Tex". Large performer fins as quad.
I only can surf in France for 1-2 Weeks a year in France West cost in 2-6 feet swell.
I can duckdive, paddle and pop up on waves easily and go down the line.
    Here comes the problem:
It´s hard get the rails in the face of the wave to get some grip and gain some speed even with the large Fins. It feels like I´m drifting/floating on the wave/water instead of cutting in the water with the rails
    So I´m thinking of an D2 in 6`4 (41L) or 6´6 (44,4L).
    - I know for sure that 37L is way to small even in best conditions 41L is absolute minimum.
    - A Torq Fish with 6`6 x 21 x 39,6L was harder to paddle than my Tex, but started to feel too long.
    So what might fit better:
    - a 6´4 with the fear of having eventually not enough volume?
    - a 6`6 with enough volume but maybe beeing to long to fit into small waves? Or will the thinner rails and squash tail make it feel easy to maneuver?
Firewire recommends riding the board same size as the surfer. So it would be 6`1.
Is the board generally not suited for my abilitys?
    Cheers from Germany
ps: In case you have other suggestions for board models please let me know

      @WoolyTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate,

The one thing that throws me off a bit is the high volumes people like to ride it in. U mention that the MB vs D2 are kinda similar range. Do u think D2 is slightly lower in the range? And the MB can handle more size? And which do u think it is higher performance? Easier to go vert or work in the pocket and handle steeper juicier surf? Appreciate your thoughts and dig your vids. Btw im also bigger guy also 6'2 215-220 intermed/ advance and my quiver already includes an older 6'4 38L MB that I like a lot. But been eyeballin the D2 as a poss replacement for the old mb if it might actually b an upgrade. If not then i would just stick with old MB and put the money toward a Monsta 2020 easy rider instead for 3-5 surf (and see if it can knock my Hayden Shred Sled out of that slot).

      @WoolyTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate
The MB would def surf up to bigger surf better than the Dom and I think the Dom would grovel a little better. Both boards work well in the pocket. This could replace a MB in your quiver but you might be boxed in a little with the range. Saying that, I didn’t really ride the Dom in overhead surf so I’m not sure what it’s limitations are.

Great review bro! I'm looking for a daily driver and I'm doubt between the D2 and the Pyzel Phantom.
I'm 137lbs (62kg) and 167 (5'5) tall, 37 years old and level wise I'm in the middle of intermediate to advanced.
I'm afraid of getting the D2 on 5'6 (28L) and being too much volume, but it doesn't come on 5'5 and the 5'4 risks being too little (25.9L).
I surf in west coast of France, most part of the time on beach breaks, with average waves and choppy sections. Sometimes it can be overhead but it's like some surfs in a year.
What would you recommend? What would be better, the D2 5'6 (28L) or shall I go with a Phantom on 5'7 (26,7L). They say "foam is your friend", but I'm now riding a DHD Black Diamond (5'8 x 29.5L) and I feel it too buoyant.

@@schtisoo I got the D2 and I'm stoked with. It's so fast down the line and still very reactive. I've got the 5'6. It's a pity that Mann jumped the 5'5 length. I would prefer that one cauz' the volume of the 5'6 is a little too much. But it catch waves like 90% of my paddling tries.
I loved the D2 with the 2+1 Mick Fanno's fins. It goes even faster whilst loose in the tail.

For small flat surf...... Rocket Wide
The Dom and MB would surf better in a bigger range of conditions (so if you only have one board).

I'm getting a dominator 2 5.11 second hand tomorrow as I have a seaside 5.11 and at 75 kgs it's grovels like a fomaie but I can't duck it above shoulder high!
Very excited to have a go with this I'm going to beg, borrow and steal fins off mates until I find something I like 👍

You surf better on all the Firewires than any other board. You are aware of that, yes? Not a fan of the "pulled down rails" but then we're bigger and heavier. You should show other guys surfing too, maybe the kid filming you? What you don't do is explain what the hell "Helium" or "iBolic" or "Thunderbolt" etc etc is and the differences. They're all variations on EPS boards, so what's the difference? We know Thunderbolt is the toughest and mimics PU well too. Then you need to tell us where the widest point is on each board (actually show us), and what differences each board has to the hackneyed single-to-double-concave thing so prevalent now. For example we think channels with flyers work better than concaves, with the channels being the actual concave but with the channel edges delivering "grip" and squirting the water out the flyers.

Again thanks for your view and input. In my opinion I surf the best on PU board in overhead surf. What you see on the TH-cam channel is a bunch of boards I ride 3 to 5 times for the review. None of which showcase my best surfing as I’m just getting used to them and then I move onto the next board.
The other thing is I only film about 5 or 10% of my surfs.
In my opinion I surf the best on a very standard PU daily driver or a performance shortboard.
But that’s what I like, some people say I look good on twins (but I feel like a kook on them).
Anyway thanks for watching and here is another yewwwww and a Shakka for you🤙🤙🤙
