I use sugar cakes a reserve stores when I overwinter, especially on hives that I think might be light on stores. As an experiment this winter I added half a cup of Bee Pro supplement to half of my cakes. I put one cake with the supplement and one without in each hive. What I found was that all of the hives preferred the cakes with Bee Pro. Bear in mind that I am in an area where my bees get several cleansing flights over the course of a winter. If I lived where my bees had to go for months on end without a cleansing flight I would probably skip the supplement so as not to cause dysentery. I am eager to see what spring build up looks like in the hives that took the sugar plus supplement.
2 sugar 1 water best why. When you give dry sugar bees need water. Outside cold when bees lft hive lots of them don't return . If you give 2 sugar 1 water syrup bees don't go out side...
170 degree you are burning sugar it like stone. I prefer to 2 sugar 1 water syrup. Fill in syrup to refrigerator bag take all air. This bag very very thin plastic. Easy way I think.

Would it be a good idea to mix in some pollen powder in with the mixture?
