One of the most informative videos - I wanted to spend a month in a few places before making a decision on a permanent place and this provided great guidance.
Hi Mills snd Chris, thanks for the useful information. My husband and are looking for a low key place to retire. As you mentioned hospital's, grocery shopping and other needed essentials are very important to keep in mind when choosing where to relocate. We are getting up in years and are searching for convenience at our age. Affordable living, comfortable weather and accessible medical care, etc. We live in NJ, originally from Ecuador. I want to be closer to the USA for my kids and grandchild. I don't like extreme heat, I was thinking of some where with cooler weather like Jarabacoa. We plan on getting a small property where we can grow our own fruits & veggies to keep busy and have a couple of chickens. Nothing too far from a city. After hearing that amenities are not as accessible as we would need. I have to keep searching, any recommendations?
Jarabacao is a nice place to live in 🥰 I’m from the capital, but I used to spend the summers and Semana Santa over there. Nice people, big homes, lots of lands, nice rivers, and a real quiet town. is really a nice place for people that wants to retire 💯
My dad moved back to the DR in 2016 to Constanza to be near to my grandma in La Vega. After my grandma passed away, my aunt moved to her home. I only been there once when I was 6. It had really nice views from above. I asked my husband when we do decide to visit after COVID blows over, he still rather go to the resorts at Punta Cana than take a chance driving on those crazy roads to central DR/Cibao region.

I found a couple of malls online, but didn't get a sense of whether there are appliances that one might find in a U.S. mall. (For example, small kitchen appliances, technology--like Best Buy--, household tools, air purifier, etc.) If you have any links or tips to share, that would be awesome! Thanks.

In Samana Dominican Republic there is an African Northamerican relocation by the Northamerican government when they abolished slavery and still continued segregation. Some elder still speak English.
Jean Pierre Boyer invaded Santo Domingo in February of 1822, 2 months after Santo Domingo had declared independence from Spain on Dec. 1st, 1821, thus the entire island was under his rule. Boyer persuaded Bishop Richard Allen to re-settle freed African Americans to Samana, an isolated peninsula on the north eastern cost of the island. In 1824 over 200 families mostly from Philadelphia settled in the area of Santa Barbara sponsored by abolitionists (the same movement that help to create the country of Liberia, where many African Americans were returned and settled as free citizens). In addition, not all African Americans stayed in Samana, practically a jungle and harsh conditions, but the ones that remained flourished and kept their religion and language. In fact, during the emancipation from Haiti in 1844, the settlers supported the Dominican people to regain their freedom from Haiti. In the 1930's Trujillo made Spanish the dominant language in school, especially in remote areas, many of the newer generation showed less interest in keep up with their grandparents language (English). Today the African American decedents are an essential part, another stich on the diverse tapestry of Dominican culture and people. Who doesn't love a Johnnies Cake or yaniqueque although different from the other migration in mind 19th century from Turks and Caicos, Virgin Island, and from almost every English colony, including Tortola.
