Looks like they also have Brubaker & Epting's "Winter Soldier" Captain America & Hickman & Eaglesham's "'Solve Everything" Fantastic Four in the pipeline for later in the year.
DC wins again with compact editions. I hope this format means that old books get newer printings. Use this format to make collections that don’t usually sell well.
They could just cut out those extra covers, scripts like Dc Comics did with Dc Finest and Compact Comics and drop the price a little bit more. After all these books aren't for collection but to read the stories.
Thanks for the size comparison. It's interesting that they did some work to make it more competitive with their own digest price allowing for more content but not deciding to more directly compete with DC compact. Loved the catwoman compact but feel it's a bit too small, their normal digest size would have been better, though likely more expensive.
@@ryanwilliams7639 i think they are slightly larger ... more like the "mighty marvel masterworks" ... which I think is an improvement. But, 5$ more seems excessive.

How is this any different than the small paperbacks of the initial classic runs for Marvel characters? I forget what they’re called but they have Hulk, Thor, Daredevil, Strange, Spider-Man etc.
Is it the Essential series? The ones that released a bunch of older stuff in black and white? Or is it the Mighty Marvel Masterworks, which are digest size versions of the Masterworks?
These aren't for me. Glad to know the paper is matt, but Born Again doesn't need a bonus comic and these editions don't need supplemental extras. That's what regular trades are for and these should be the budget option. Why make them half an inch taller than the line you're ripping off also? I truly believe Marvel can't get anything right these days.
$15 is overpriced? I'll be the first to say that Marvel is bad about price gouging, but not in this case. All the covers being "hideous" is a subjective judgment, so I won't comment on that. Opinions vary, even when they're wrong. ;)
@@mattthompson3371 honestly, $15 for that design is a no. I rather buy the current Born Again new for the same price… or buy the Omni’s Companion book for $80 which I have now.
Oh no Marvel. Don't start not printing what's collected in the book somewhere on the cover. That's a DC type move. Just tell me what's in the book without me having to hunt inside for it.
Also the larger size is probably just to justify charging more, but I feel like it misses the point. DC Compacts are meant to appeal to casual comic fans, paperback novel readers, and manga fans. The smaller size and amazing price point are the draw and why they are selling well. Not to mention just being smaller allows them to shelved with traditional prose paperbacks or manga. Which is a big deal for brick and mortar locations
This is a mistep from Marvel. They need to be smaller, Manga sized and cheaper to compete with Manga and DC Compact. Plus they need true and tried successful Marvel stories to promote, Born Again is a great choice but the Black Panther TNC is a mistake as well. The run wasn't successful, doesn't hold up even a few years after and he's such a devisive figure, his takes will turn off the average reader. Born Again is literally only $5 more at regular size not to mention how ugly these look. Great overview as always though Omar!
It's crazy, I have no idea why anyone would want to buy these - they have no value proposition, and are poorly designed!

The DC compact books have been flying off the shelves at $9.99, I wonder how Marvels will do at $15.00.
