I know 90s X-men is not everyone's cup of tea, but the post AOA stuff were some of my favs from this time. The whole line went through a refresh after AOA and stories and art were usually very good until around 2000 or so.
The only reason the Starjammers limited series is included is because that's where it goes chronologically and there isn't really any other good place to collect it. It's also included to round out the page count. It's wrong headed to really think of this Omni as just a prologue to the Onslaught event. As with most X-men omnis, just like Epic Collections, it is basically a comprehensive volume of everything X-men related between two points. This is the advantage longtime omni collectors of "event" omnis have over newer collectors of volume omnis. It will be a long time before someone who is just picking up Uncanny X-Men vol.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. will ever get to whatever volume number this would be in that numbering system.
I loved age of apocalypse, and some stories in the companion were great, like nemesis origin, the hulk's and scott's father. Other great review thanks.
A lot of material indeed. I started collecting omnis in 2017, and I decided to start with X-Men from the beginning. 2025, and im still buying them. It never stops. 😂
I am looking forward to reading it, alot of the 90s stuff I skipped over or just skimmed through at the comic shop. Was pretty much out of collecting b then but loved to see the art.
Im eagerly waitin to read this. In my opinion 90's xmen era is when art stands out more than stories themselves but still enjoyable and fun tho. Nice video man
Man im a lifelong X-Men fan and I remember collecting these issues leading up to Onslaught. I enjoyed them for what they were but I loved AoA and never really connected with the Onslaught character. After that and Heroes Reborn I pretty much checked out of comics for a while. Not a highpoint for X-Men but there were some interesting ideas that came out of here and stuck around. Thanks for the review I was just organizing my X-Men comics and just seen all of these covers recently but I probably wont read them again anytime soon.
This story was ok. I read it when it first came out in singles. Was hard getting used to the artwork at the time but no one could top marc, jim and whilce before this.
Starjammers doesn’t necessarily need to tie into Onslaught, could just be a case of if it’s not in this book (same publication time) or vol 2 then where’s it gonna go to avoid being orphaned, same with the Unlimited issue. The name of the book can also just a be a name to give the book ~just because~.
I'll be ordering this on Tuesday from InstockTrades, hopefully the Gambit/Rogue cover. We'll see. The material looks good. I read the Onslaught omnibus last week, and yeah, it's not the greatest X-Men thing ever, but I enjoyed most of the issues collected there. Probably not the best place to start with X-Men, but if you're already a fan, might as well give that and this a shot.
It's a whole lot better to read now than it was when it came out. When it came out, they killed off the Avengers and Fantastic Four, then they reimagined them, which was horrible. But now that we know that the Avengers and Fantastic Four returned to the main continuity, there is no need to worry about how Marvel ruined them, and almost went out of business, after Onslaught. Too much stress reading it when it came out.
I was thinking of getting this but don't have the Onslaught Omnibus. Now I see that's sold out. Knowing Marvel by the time it gets a reprint all the other companion books will be out of print by then
I liked AOA, but Onslaught was a huge disappointment. I always liked him in MVC and the idea of Xavier + Magneto was always compelling, but he didn't do much for me in the story. Is this more like AOA which I liked or more like Onslaught which felt flat?

A Gem Mint Omnibus review. One of life's great joys.

this is right up my alley. loved AoA and Onslaught. Deff gotta pick this up
I’ll try to get this love this era
I've been mainly a spider-man collector, but X-Men has been tempting, but there's just SO MUCH material!

Cant wait to read this for the first time and them jump into the Onslaught omni!
I still haven't read my age of apocalypse omni. Got me motivated to crack it open. And of course now I gotta pick up road to and onslaught omnis.
Im eagerly waitin to read this. In my opinion 90's xmen era is when art stands out more than stories themselves but still enjoyable and fun tho. Nice video man
I'm definitely adding this to my collection
I’m definitely getting this, it’s the era I started reading comics when I was a kid.
Great overreview, Gem! 💎

I just love the art from this period so much, looks so good, and I didn’t read comics from this period at all, I didn’t start until the 2000’s.
Cloud in Defenders, that issue with Jean, Marjorie Lui’s Astonishing X-Men…they were trying to have Iceman come out for years.
Where did you get that gambit tshirt Gem ? Looks awsome

Can not wait for volume 2. Need that Gambit vs sabertooth and gladiator vs Cannonball.
You should do weekly comic book reviews. Pick a few books that interest you weekly and do indepth reviews about them, you would do great.
Thats cause the focus is really with X-Man, Cable Dark Beast, Sinister and teasing stuff for Onslaught event.

This was a great overview!
Thanks for the europe link!

Good shit 💎 Mint. I’m going digital no more floppies 💾
Nooooooooo digital!! You don’t own squat!
❤❤❤

Yea will probably get a reprint. There’s an Onslaught Aftermath omnibus coming too
Sad part is the material before Onslaught and after are better than the actual event omni. Too convoluted and weak payoff.
I've heard poor things which is why I held off for so long but based on this review I think Id like this book
Don't knock the white pages man. Makes for a great opportunity to get the artist to sketch inside. Easier to do black on white than black.
Ah true
They look amazing.

I was going to skip this one. The more i see it Im glad I didn't.
we need 90s style comics back! the current stuff is so boring
100%, so much trash nowadays.
“Gratuitous”! Don’t be a hater Gem! 😂
No hate
Big Gem!
That digital coloring is what made me stop buying comics. Will get it to know what happened...but it might just be a read and gift/resell for me.
I feel you. I still have a soft spot for the mid to late 90’s though. But copper age for life
Didn’t like the Starjammers mini series say what 💎?
🤷♂️ I feel like I’m missing something.
Shirt 🔥🔥🔥
Bring on the mutants.
Got a lot of catching up to do with the videos
Omnibus is a peculiar format for this era. So much filler. Very, very little actually happens here
A pass for me. This art is not my cup of tea.
The art is awful, IMO.
It’s my boi Gemanold J Mintington!! Reading X-Men back when it was actually good and not complete modern swill, let’s go. 🙃🦄🙈🫣
So your old and change is really hard for you. It's OK. Live in the past, your in the way anyway.
