@@CabbageCorn You cannot seriously expect to have any idea what life through Dele's eyes are. I suggest you try to learn some empathy for others. Because you sound like Hitler.
@@CabbageCorn lol this is such a weird take. attitude is a result of your mental health, if you are depressed or suffering from PTSD, then it is going to be a lot more difficult for you to stay motivated, and you will also self sabotage.
Gary Neville deserves extreme amount of credit for how he handled himself in a difficult interview. This is almost a therapy session and Gary comes across as a fantastic therapist. Full praise to dele as well unbelievably brave.
@@rubenreuvekamp6611 id like to see him at everton now that he’s got the confidence of how much the club has backed him ajax would be a good fit as well
As a psychology graduate, Gary did really well here. There are some pretty specific guidelines that are used in these sorts of situations and Gary did well not to stray too far from them. For example, notice when Dele was sharing personal information Gary never once said "I understand".
Mourinho made the same observation we all would make not knowing his story and just watching the player's attitude. Good on him to quickly realize that it wasn't as simple as him being "Lazy" and apologizing to alli a week after he arrived.
It doesn't matter if he ever finds his way again on a football pitch. I hope Dele finds his way in life and gets as close to peace and serenity as he can. Excellent interview.
Judging by his interview he’s already there mate! He’s found some kind of peace and even if he doesn’t get back to that number 10 role well I’ll always remember that goal against palace. He will get there! He’s got similarities to Gazza but it’s a different era now and things can change for Del Boy whereas with Gazza it was too late in football terms. Just look back on some of them right footed volleys Dele scored. You never lose that kind of skill, that’s something he was born with and he can come back and he will never lose that natural technique not ever. Good look Del!
In terms of impact, this is huge. Two men having an honest conversation about addiction, trauma, recovery, change and growth is necessary for society. Props to Dele and Gary
As a victim of sexual abuse myself at the age of 10, the hardest part was telling someone and hoping that you won't be judged or ridiculed and that it was not your fault...you're a brave man and an inspiration to many, thank you.
The world and the internet might be full of trolls and toxic c*nts but just know that there are way more people that would gladly give you a hug for support. Take care
I won't lie, I never liked Dele Alli and a lot of that comes down to bitterness as an Arsenal fan I'll admit. So naturally I bought into the narratives of him being lazy, not working hard, having poor work ethic and was loving his fall from grace. This interview though really turned me around. Brought me back to remember you never really know what goes on behind the scenes. I wish nothing but the best for this guy and hope he finds himself again. Incredible strength to endure what he's been through.
It makes me so angry that the tabloids have forced him into this. He left rehab a few weeks ago, he says he's in a good place but he obviously has a lot of processing to do. Very brave decision but awful that it comes to this. You're not alone Dele.
I feel for the lad, and I hope he can reach the heights in football that he was once at but the papers were right at the end of the day. He says they overstated his partying a bit at the start but other than that they were right in what they said.
What happens in his personal life has got nothing to do with us yet some average Joe's and nobodies think we are owed the personal info of celebs 🤔 let him rebuild his career and leave him alone
Was embarrassed to say that I suffer from Depression and had thoughts of taking my own life ... I thought I was weak & was embarrassed but after watching this video... I reached out from professional help Thank you Dele & all the best going forward
Gary, you've created a platform where someone like Dele feels comfortable opening up about these major, often overlooked issues. That in itself deserves praise, so well done
Hats off to Gary Neville being proactive and wanting to speak to this young lad. He's clearly struggling mentally and needs as many people to talk to as possible to help him through whatever he's going through. I genuinely hope we see a resurgent Dele Ali. For above all else, himself....I hope this is a turning point for him.
Dele Alli has no one to blame but himself. Maybe getting filmed while being sucked off wasn't a smart idea. Why should any coach try to help him when he can't help himself. He needs to spend less time getting terrible tattoos and more time actually working.
I was the same age as Dele when I was abused in that way. when he choked up, I felt that. I still do it myself when I try to verbalise what happened to me. He got the words out, I still can’t. Not yet. Massive respect to him.
Not alone bud. Trauma therapy can be completed in imagery or in many other formats. I am a therapist and if any way you are feeling you are struggling you can find an avenue for help
@@aaronpenberthy107 Thanks for the kind words. I don’t let it impact my life now, though that’s only because of many years of therapy. It’s just still something that is not easy to say out loud.
You are not alone my man, a lot of people go through similar things. I wish you nothing but the best in your future and stay strong and push through it 💯🙏🏼
As a survivor of child sexual abuse myself, I just want to say thank you Gary for giving Dele the platform to not only let him speak his truth but by giving the space for this topic to be put out there. Thank you for that. And to Dele also. Thank you for sharing, it’s never easy to speak on such things, so again, thank you. ❤️
As a Tottenham fan, I followed Dele most of his career and could not understand till today what happened. Dele, you are a fighter. I hope you become your best self and go back to being an amazing footballer!
same here. i got into football just a bit before he started playing for spurs & it felt so unfinished & sad to see his quick downward slide & then get sold. this feels like so much justification & resolution & brings so much understanding. in addition, as someone that has dealt with chemical addictions with the same trauma as dele as the root issue (had a liver transplant last year from alcoholism) - this hits deeply. so glad this happened & he's gotten to this point. brave & beautiful.
Classic football fans. Watch what happens when Harry maguire kills himself cause of the constant shit he gets. All the little mongy hypocrites will come straight out the woodwork pretending they care
He would not have achieved what he achieved without his childhood. On the pitch he was fearless. I hated him because he found a way to destroy my team Chelsea always. I loved him for the common ancestry. I can only wish him the best. The road to recovery is a long one. He is in the action phase. There is always a risk of relapse into bad old ways but if he is open and honest with himself he will find a way. I hope Poch will bring him to Chelsea.
Absolute HERO. I'm not a regular fan of football but Dele's honesty, bravery and courage, crosses every boundary - to the only thing that matters: humanity. A true HERO, in every sense of the word.
It's all about the future if he's serious about evolving take a pay cut and come to a club like Aston villa I don't truly believe it that he's willing to do it
We took a geeza on Paul mcgrath that was a chronic alcoholic and gave him stability and access to help we payed him handsomely and we made him feel loved ❤😢 that's why Aston villa is special 😢
I don't normally comment on videos but this one I just feel needs to be appreciated. I'll be honest, I was a person who felt he was ruining a career that looked so promising, but to hear his struggles only makes me admire what he has achieved so far. A true inspiration for people going through hard times and seeking help to make themselves better. Well done Dele!
Sounds like he’d already conquered those issues waaaaaaaay back. It’s the ones that cropped up in 2019 onwards that are the issue and have ruined his career. I just don’t know why he didn’t seek help much much earlier.
@marcuscole6622 I would say playing for your country as an achievement. Playing in the Premier league as an achievement. Unless you have done the same?
On behalf of a die hard gunner here, really wish all the best for him, nobody deserves that sort of start in life. The fact he's even managed to make it into professional football given all that in his early days is remarkable in of itself. Good on him for that and good on him for having the nuts to put his story out there to help other people who've experienced the same.
Ditto from another Gooner. Very disarming, candid and humble version of his traumatic life experiences to date. He's young enough to resurrect his career and anyone who has watched this video, irrespective of their club affiliations, will wish him a long and distinguished future.
" I refuse to blame mourinho. I want to make that very clear . He didn't know. No one knew. It was always me against myself. I'm my own hero and my worst enemy" Wow. My respect for him just went though the roof
It must be hard for anyone that's suffered such an abusive upbringing to open up about it, but to be someone in the public eye, in a profession thats so highly criticized from every angle, i think it's HUGE what Dele has done here. He has helped so many by doing this. Best of luck to the guy, deserves every success.
He went through all that and STILL made it to the top of professional football, and the World Cup. Just shows what a talent he has. I think everyone watching this will wish him the very best on his next chapter. And the chapter after that, too. I'm sure rooting for him....
This is Gary's best interview of all time. Dele's been through so much that is so difficult to talk about. Gary did a great job of creating the environment where he was able to share. I really hope Dele can find his peace and find joy again in football.
Stunning and brave. The hardships this man has endured sitting on a bench getting paid millions. The children of Africa weep for his very difficult life.
@@apk4381 money isn't everything mate, mental health issues can make your life shit whether you have £1 or £100000000. of course dele alli is luckier than a lot of the kids in africa, but its not a competition on who can feel the shittest.
He's a very brave man but let's not act like he's 16 mate. A random guy in his late 20s would have that reasoning. Especially having have the experience he had
I’m guessing you’re all under 50. At 27 To be open like this is incredibly mature. I don’t know a lot of 27yo in therapy let alone able to publically talk about it.
This is some of the best TH-cam / football content I’ve seen in my life. Dele inspiring millions. GNev asking great questions and getting even better answers. Praise to all involved for the passion, honesty, and bravery in this production.
Gary Neville is a legend on and off the pitch. To facilitate the conversation like this with Dele, to make him feel safe and comfortable when he's putting his demons out there is nothing short of special
Just wanted to say how grateful I am that this was released at this time. Life's been rough for me recently and I've felt like I've lost myself. While I can't sit here and say that I have suffered the immense trauma that Dele has, I relate to so much with what he was saying. Him sharing his story and his message has inspired me and saved a life. Thank you!
As a Spurs fan I’ll always love Dele for the memories he gave us on the pitch, but as a father, a youth pastor and a man I admire and applaud him even more for what he’s talked about today. This has taken more courage and bravery than anything he could do on a football pitch. My love and prayers go towards him for this new beginning in his life, may it be a fruitful and blessed one.
His nervous laughter is the ultimate in heartbreak. That's his (and many others) defence mechanism to cope in tragic times. We have to learn to laugh these things away, so that we seem "normal". It's the saddest part of all of this. Real respect for Dele (and to Gary for being so delicate and respectful) for doing this whole interview. I hope he gets better from here and I hope it helps many others suffering in similar ways. From a West Ham fan
By watching closely on body language Delle Alli curls his feet onto the sofar that shows how much sufferings he has gone through comparing with Neville posture am in charge. Good that Delle pour it out and Neville shows he cares.
@@swirl._.3its become the norm now 🤦♀️. People's way of saying 'even though you're an enemy on the pitch I can still be nice off the pitch' I don't love it but it's not going anywhere🤷♀️🙃
"I think if you let people in, that's the way they can hurt you the most in the end". God bless you Dele, I felt that. I pray for a speedy return back to your best, on and off the pitch. ❤
This is by far the most powerful interview any footballer has ever done, period. As someone who caged up trauma from childhood and let it lead my life for years, I can relate to everything he’s saying. I make this promise to anyone who is going through any type of depression. When you are ready to seek help, and open your eyes to the world again, you’ll be amazed at the freedom you feel. Keep pushing.
Totally agree @aaronsmith7828 we keep everything in and it effects our life. We lose relationships and keep a guard between ourselves and those we can’t trust due to these traumas. I think it’s brave for him to do this interview and it makes total sense as why he has always had to defend himself on the pitch the way he does. Poor lad we have all dragged him through the mud for his so called “lack of interest” but trauma has controlled him all his life. Any one or any footballer needs our support.
So sorry to hear you've struggled and amazing that you've found a way through. But, I have to challenge that statement about feeling free. Everyone's depression is unique and so you can't necessarily understand how other people feel. In this case (and yours from the sound of it) it's clearly linked back to a trigger event and whilst you'll always carry the scars, you can address the root cause and free yourself from the depression. However, there are people who suffer from Chronic depression and luckily they may never have had your trauma but equally they will never be free of it. Medication and therapy can help but they will always suffer from depression no matter what. What they need are some tools to manage it and having a great network of people around them (if they're lucky enough too) Definitely, everyone should open up and seek help when ready as that is liberating but for some, it's here to stay and it's important that people realise that rather than thinking help will alleviate it completely.
The fact that he got to the level he was a few years ago is nothing short of incredible considering the situation he came from and the childhood he had.
@@BH-ui5ebhe’s just expressing himself😭. Do you know how much hate he’s had since his decline in football? ALOT. It’s not playing the victim card, it’s just him taking the world what’s up

@@ChuckNorrisFakebecause of people like you some will never take mental health for serious. Robert Enke, ex german nationalkeeper threw himself under a train in 2009. Was that done for reputation as well?
It's not questioning someone's character. If you forget about the character and just look purely at the football and the wasted talent, that's fair. And that's why he gets stick. He's obviously talented but the football hasn't shown that
Huge respect to Dele. I did not know he had to endure this kind of struggles. Coping with all that while being a top-level athlete must have been terribly hard.
It must be definitely hard. If I had his money, I'd stop everything. However, since I'm grinding to makes end meet. That begins the push for me to get up and talk to people. Every basic things are difficult for me and required much more effort than people think it would be. Which is why telling people with mental illness to toughen up, shin up has opposite effect of what you wanted. The struggle is unimaginable to average people. I don't wish this sort of thing in my worse enemy. Nobody should be going through this.
To slam on the brakes to a halt and stop this cycle shows incredible strength. To speak to the world and try and help others by facing your demons, while holding yourself with dignity, is on another level of strength and courage completely. Nothing but love, care and admiration Dele.
Incredibly sad, I cried throughout. Well done Gary for handling the situation so well. Hoping Dele gets back playing even better than before. He’s an inspiration.
Gary said, he wasn’t expecting that, I certainly wasn’t. I think it was a natural reaction, reaching out to someone in distress. We’ll have all learnt from that. I don’t think any harm was done.
Gary spontaneously comforting dele like that for me was possibly the most moving part of this entire interview. Such a tough moment for both men, palpable discomfort but gn behaved like a real human. If someone gets offended because someone else displays empathy, i find it’s usually because they don’t have enough
Not going to lie, this was proably one of raw and visceral Interviews ,I have heard in a long time. As a Spurs fan, this cuts deeper as well. We all wish him well, and hope he finishes on the high ,he deserves. Huge kudos to Garry, for that amazing interview , the sensitivity, compassion and gentle questioning, were exemplary.
Dele, you've saved so many lives with this interview. Your an absolute warrior. There's alot of young men out there that need to listen to this. I wish you all the best in the future.
Deli I was abused by my father from the age of 4 until I was 15. I left home at 18 and for nearly 5 years I was homeless on the streets of London. Deli your a survivor and yes by speaking out in the way you are firstly brings tears to my eyes because know child should ever ever be abused full stop. Secondly you my friend will change lives for the better and I firmly believe that your talent on the football field will shine brightly again. I just want to wish you all the best for your future. It's easy as a football fan to be detached from the real person behind the player. The vitriol and hate thrown at Dele from the media and fans has been atrocious. The bravery and strength he's shown to tell his story cannot be underestimated. Good on you, Dele.
I hope all the people who called him "lazy" and a "bad attitude" humble themselves a little bit. None of us know the personal lives of these players, so making judgements is a silly thing to do.
Absolutely agree, this is exactly why I never call a player trash, finished, horrible or whatever else derogatory. Footballers are people not fictional characters. Decent people treat each other with respect. In almost all comment sections of football related content, 90% of the comments are mean-spirited, immature and unproductive shit. Love the sport, hate the fans tbh
This makes that conversation he had with Jose take such a deeper meaning "I don't know what is going on inside you and why you went from being so successful to up and down. Maybe it's something personal. Maybe you use to be an amazing professional and you became a party guy. I will never know the true answer. Only you can know that. But I just want you to demand more from you " Indeed only dele knew....
As a Spurs fan I’ll always love this man. And as a former addict myself, you can tell that he is 100% genuine and hits the nail on the head. We are all human at the end of the day and it’s nice to see an interview examining the human condition in footballers. Good job Gary,
Same. As an addict (and I mean generally, diagnosed as an addict per se.. so drink, drugs, food etc. It can be anything) it can last a long time. Took me 18yrs to kick worse addictions and still have some of the lesser ones. Very very brave of Deli, and this is first step. Have to be on your guard not to relapse but this is huge step. He’s very articulate and intelligent, he can conquer this in his personal life and professionally he can recover and get back to his best. I believe in him, there will be bumps in the road, important to reset and not give up. Long term fix, not easy. Rooting for him, as a spurs fan he was amazing for Tottenham and can be again.
Going through what Dele went through and being able to talk about it and express his emotions and going through rehab on top of that is worth more than any trophy in football. What a man!
Thanks to Gary, and the Overlap team, for covering this. As a Spurs fan, Dele gave me so many amazing memories and it was so sad to see his decline. Proud of him for speaking out and addressing the issues he faced. Wherever he ends up, I hope he fully rediscovers himself and finds happiness!
He will be acknowledged mostly for his bravery and rightly so. Incredible. But for me it’s the personal accountability he takes for his situation that inspires me the most. He never blames anyone despite an awful upbringing. I hope so so much he comes back to the level he once was bc he deserves it.
As a Gooner and a recovering addict of prescription opiates, this subject is way beyond anything: Being human, honest, open and real! You cannot be your true self if you’re lying all the time. Big respect to you for doing this! Peace ✌🏼
What an inspiration, it takes such guts to talk about such personal, traumatic events - you have helped me realise trauma is something a lot of us deal with even if you can't tell on the outside, thank you Dele for making me feel less alone
I feel guilty that I allowed the media to taint my view of Dele. I shed a tear watching this because of how sad his early life was and how brave he is to get through it. I really hope he succeeds in the future and I'll be a supporter for life. Well done lad ❤👍
I always knew something was up with him and he wasn’t just “lazy”. Takes courage to open up about everything and he’s going to help so many others by doing so. You can tell he’s a deep genuine guy, I’ve got a lot of respect for him
Wow this brought tears to me. I was sexualy abused when i was 8 and it wasnt until i was a teenager until i told someone. Thank you dele alli for speaking up it really helps me and others to not feel ashamed of it.
I’m completely taken aback by this interview. Having experienced how crippling and isolating mental illness can be, it really is inspiring to hear Dele speak so openly about his struggles and take so much accountability. What a cracking young man. Would love to see him reach the heights that he’s capable of reaching. Come on Dele!
Also what I love about him is that he doesn't beg for sympathy. Pogba had a similar interview a year ago and he was like "United never trusted me. Mourinho was mean to me. The fans booed me. They all destroyed me" Dele kept repeating "Mourinho gave me tough love but he couldn't know and later he apologized The media lied about me many times but I was to blame for that Managers after Poch seemed fake to me but they were not actually fake. I just didn't want to listen to them because I wanted to close myself Players tried to help me but I didn't listen I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. I'm the main responsible as I'm the one who made the mistakes. I just want people to understand where my poor judgment comes from " That is true maturity
Gary’s line of questioning to me, a non native speaker, at times feels a bit too confrontational and doesn’t fit the setting. He could use different wording; ‘can you be more specific’ vs ‘could you elaborate on that’ just one example.
Fantastic but harrowing talk and it’s great to hear Dele sounding healthier and somewhat happier. You can tell he’s speaking from the heart and that he’s being honest and truthful. I hope this is the start of his journey back to full fitness and back on the pitch
My heart goes out to Dele Ali, just goes to show it doesn’t matter how successful and how much money you have it doesn’t take away the pain and suffering a person can be going through.
The thing is Gary is a guy who genuinely cares for Dele and other people. Glad Dele let us in to understand his struggles. He’s definitely impacting lives through this interview
@@stenbergskij101 If you google, you’ll find he’s addressed that criticism plenty of times…but you probably know that and just choose to ignore it. Yes Neville’s loaded, but it’s clear he backs up his politics in what he says and does. The idea that liberals with money should be martyrs and show solidarity by living in poverty is bollocks frankly. They should use their privilege and platform for the vulnerable and oppressed, and people like Neville and Lineker do. The fact is you don’t get an interview like that from someone with a more right-wing outlook, because there generally is less tolerance, empathy and understanding of different experiences to their own, and the interviewee doesn’t reveal anything. In fact, it’s almost certain that the right-leaning elements of the press were the ones ready to expose this story against Dele Alli’s will. Really pleased that he got his message across properly by speaking to someone genuinely decent and compassionate. If there’s anyone immorally after money at the expense of others, it’s the gutter press, not Gary Neville.
17:58 straight tears. That breath by Gary Neville hits hard. Knowing someone you care for didn't have someone to protect them went they weren't able to protect themselves. 6-year-old needs someone to guard them always. A guardian is the most important role on earth.
Massive amount of respect for Dele and Gary for creating this space of vulnerability to understand where Dele has come from and what he's been through. He looks well onto the road to recovery and we couldn't be more proud of him. ❤️
*Immense respect to Dele for having the courage to open up about his struggles. Seeing someone with his profile be this vulnerable about addiction and trauma is so powerful. His story will undoubtably inspire others going through similar battles to know they are not alone. Speaking up is brave. Seeking help is brave. No matter how hard things get, there is always hope. Dele embodies the strength it takes to acknowledge pain in order to heal. His desire to use his platform to connect with people and make a difference during difficult times is truly admirable. This conversation shines light on issues that are often stigmatized but so deeply affect lives. I hope it sparks more open, compassionate dialogue around mental health. Wishing Dele continued healing and happiness ahead. His honesty and empathy in this episode will stay with me.*

Come home Dele, we love you, always have. Never wanted you to leave but could never understand your decline in football terms….but now it’s out….all credit to you, the strength you’ve shown in doing this is greater than any goal you could ever score. Be safe and happy Dele.
The worst and the heartbroken side is that people just blame you and insult you without even knowing what you are going through. Get well Dele and stay strong.
As someone recently out of Rehab for drugs and alcohol, I commend you on your bravery speaking out on your struggles. There is a stigma around addiction but when your in its grip, it can honestly feel like there is no way out. Well done Dele Alli and wish you all the best!
I was in rehab for sex addiction, and it was a hard time, I would often turn round and knock cups from tables, and once as I turned around during a hard time I even accidently got my boner trapped in a womans foot long subway as she was about to have a nibble, she got quite a mouthful.
As an Arsenal fan, I have a new found respect for this guy. I hope he gets back on the pitch soon enough and shows us an even better footballer than we saw of him under Pochettino. I'm rooting for you Dele
I have more respect for Dele than any other current player after this. Incredibly brave move, and the knock-on effects on young men cannot be underestimated when it comes to opening up. It doesn't matter what team you support, you can't help but unequivocally support the man.
MASSIVE respect to deli for opening up about his past. Also respect to Gary for giving a platform where players can come on and have a proper conversation about hard things to talk about.
Trauma is trauma. If this interview gets people to understand the roots of their own addiction, that will be huge. Well done, Dele. You're amazing mate, big love.
I’ve suffered exactly from the same problems all of my life. Thank you Dele for sharing with us your struggle. It was therapeutic. What a wonderful player and person. Hope the best for you!!
Having been in rehab 4 times by the age of 21 - I have an unimaginable level of respect for any man or woman who goes on a journey to change their life in the hopes of saving their life. Addiction brought me, my family and everyone close to me to our knees, it took everything from me. Thankfully I woke up and changed my life, I embraced help instead of running from it. I cannot explain to you the fear anyone going to rehab for the first time will experience, it's truly terrifying. Remarkable to see Dele embrace his truth in the public eye. This is beautiful.
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted someone to succeed more in life than this guy now. If success is on the pitch that would be amazing - but just seeing him happy and healthy is more than enough. I’d love to see him on the pitch again though - even if it’s just so the crowd can show their admiration and support.
"I don’t think I’ve ever wanted someone to succeed more in life than this guy now" That is the whole point, if it wasn't for this interview he would have struggled getting a go at Wrexham, maybe I'm too hard faced but after covid I think it's clear a lot of people are soft in the head and easily led.
@@mrjones1696 Not quite sure I follow. For me, it’s nothing to do with life post Covid or people “being soft”. It’s been clear to me for ages that this guy was battling demons and, still, many people were quick to call him lazy or overpaid. All I’ve ever seen is a genuine guy who’s had issues - until now, we didn’t know what they were but he’s been brave enough to speak out. Maybe provoked by media threats of exposing him. But he told his story really well and I have loads of respect for his honesty. As I say, I’d just love him to succeed either on the pitch or just by being happy and healthy.
I will personally cheer every single goal this lad scores for the rest of his career irrespective of club allegiance.... absolutely sending all my positive vibes to him on his journey to finding inner peace with himself
This brought me to tears as I’m sure for others. I’m a huge Spurs fan and loved the Poch/Dele years. Missed the old Dele until today. Now love the new Dele. Amazing story and thanks for sharing Dele. And Gary, not sure if you got any training for journalism career but you’re brilliant. This interview is up there with some of the best interviews I’ve seen by “professionals“. Bravi 👏🏾
Remarkable Dele ever got to the level he did, with all that on his shoulders. Testament to both his talent and his mentality. The strength he's shown in this interview gives me hope he can make a return to top-level football, but above all, everyone just hopes you stay healthy Dele. ❤
This reminds me so much of when Eminem attacked his mother on Cleanin out My closet for the way she raised him but then became an addict. Overdosed. Recovered and from an addict to an addict understood all those actions by his mother and made the song "Headlights" to show empathy towards her having now understand it
What a brilliant interview. Heartbreaking hearing about his early life but encouraging to see he is now able to understand himself and actually speak publically about it. Social media can be a cesspit but the one thing it can do is let people tell their truth rather than have tabloids control the narrative. Best wishes to the Dele for the future and thanks to him for telling his story.
I cried the whole way through. This is really close to home. So much respect for him, speaking out about this is not easy. Facing your demons is not easy. It takes courage and mental strength to face these things. It's beautiful how he talks about it. This is a wise human being, a smart individual speaking about the things he went through with an intellectual hindsight mindset. This is very inspiring and I hope this will give strength to people going through similar mental health problems. You're never alone, there are always people around with an outstretched arm to reach that will help you get out of the darkness you're going through.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dele!!! As a man in recovery daily for 6 years now, I believe that he can recover!!! God bless him, his family and friends!!!!
As a Spurs fan this explains a lot regarding his loss of form. I was privileged to watch him at WHL in the early part of his Spurs career and he had this edge and spikiness. He was aggressive and so difficult for defenders to handle...Then that all went and he seemed to play with this 'couldn't care less' attitude and the form just went..... I wish him all the best and I hope he gets back to the level he once was. Very brave to speak out.... Well done GN for a very respectful interview.
Man, I've never seen Gary tear up before even when talking about some of the deepest things that have happened in his life. Dele handled himself exceptionally well throughout this in what can only be an absolutely monumental moment for him to open up and speak about his life and struggles during this interview. I don't think any of us will understand the mental strain you undergo with media outlets hounding you and your character with false narratives and speculations.
What they need are some tools to manage it and having a great network of people around them (if they're lucky enough too)
Definitely, everyone should open up and seek help when ready as that is liberating but for some, it's here to stay and it's important that people realise that rather than thinking help will alleviate it completely.

The struggle is unimaginable to average people. I don't wish this sort of thing in my worse enemy. Nobody should be going through this.

Because that’s the truth that gives you power. What a lad👊🏾
Couldn’t agree more. That’s exactly what resonated with me from this, exceptional young man ❤
As a Gooner and a recovering addict of prescription opiates, this subject is way beyond anything:
Being human, honest, open and real!

This is historic, Gary; Thanks for what you do. All behind Dele.

Historic? Don’t lose track of reality, buddy

I feel guilty that I allowed the media to taint my view of Dele. I shed a tear watching this because of how sad his early life was and how brave he is to get through it. I really hope he succeeds in the future and I'll be a supporter for life. Well done lad ❤👍

@@MikeDelta5697Well, you're doing much better sitting here on TH-cam commenting about his life.
I always knew something was up with him and he wasn’t just “lazy”. Takes courage to open up about everything and he’s going to help so many others by doing so. You can tell he’s a deep genuine guy, I’ve got a lot of respect for him
I got that feeling too. When he was talking to Mourinho on the Amazon show, I thought that something else was going on. You can see it in his eyes.
Wow this brought tears to me. I was sexualy abused when i was 8 and it wasnt until i was a teenager until i told someone. Thank you dele alli for speaking up it really helps me and others to not feel ashamed of it.
I judged a book by it’s cover and now I regret it… Man’s the bravest FR I hope to see him play again🥺🥺🥺 He’s an aspiration
Stunning and brave 😅
*inspiration.
Nah, you just got bombarded by a toxic media. We all need to learn to read between the lines and ignore the MSM.
I did too man. Feel bad now. Hope he can turn it around. Brave guy.
Bro said aspiration 😂 How did you judge a book by it's cover if you can't even understand what's written on the cover? 🤣🤣
They all destroyed me"
Dele kept repeating
"Mourinho gave me tough love but he couldn't know and later he apologized
The media lied about me many times but I was to blame for that
Managers after Poch seemed fake to me but they were not actually fake. I just didn't want to listen to them because I wanted to close myself
Players tried to help me but I didn't listen
I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. I'm the main responsible as I'm the one who made the mistakes. I just want people to understand where my poor judgment comes from "
That is true maturity
@@brandonayong5823 Exactly mate. Full credit to him for being so mature and accountable.
Good on you, Dele. And Neville. ❤

@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist2
Big shout out to dele for having the guts to actually talk about his problem just a reminder we're all human
The way Gary conducted this interview is absolutely brilliant. Massive respect to Dele
My heart goes out to Dele Ali, just goes to show it doesn’t matter how successful and how much money you have it doesn’t take away the pain and suffering a person can be going through.
My deepest admiration! That‘s what you call a role model! Well done, Dele and all the best for your future from an AFC-Supporter from 🇩🇪.
The thing is Gary is a guy who genuinely cares for Dele and other people. Glad Dele let us in to understand his struggles. He’s definitely impacting lives through this interview
That's a fact.. id rather Gary Neville interview me than Roy Keane
Gary is a sweetheart.
Champagne socialist
Beautiful soul, as a dad it breaks my heart to hear his upbringing I’ll be giving my boys a bigger hug tonight

Huge respect to Dele for sharing all that he's been through. He'll always hold a special place in every Spurs fan's heart 🤍
Well said buddy. I loved that he spoke to some of his Spurs mates before going to rehab. Would love to see him back at the Lane playing well.
@@terrymcc100 If he's going to give it a real go, I'd love nothing more than to have him back. He's always been a fan favourite and has unfinished business here!

Everyone goes through problems tbf. It makes sense
Very courageous for Dele to talk about this, and appreciate Neville to be compassionate. God bless you Dele Ali
Super brave to talk about that, and the impact positive and negative it can have for him . 🙏🏻
As someone recently out of Rehab for drugs and alcohol, I commend you on your bravery speaking out on your struggles. There is a stigma around addiction but when your in its grip, it can honestly feel like there is no way out. Well done Dele Alli and wish you all the best!
Well done in breaking the addiction cycle! Its a huge achievement you should be proud of!
I was in rehab for sex addiction, and it was a hard time, I would often turn round and knock cups from tables, and once as I turned around during a hard time I even accidently got my boner trapped in a womans foot long subway as she was about to have a nibble, she got quite a mouthful.
Keep going
Keep going!! You're smashing it xx
I hope it only gets better for you 💕
As an Arsenal fan, I have a new found respect for this guy. I hope he gets back on the pitch soon enough and shows us an even better footballer than we saw of him under Pochettino. I'm rooting for you Dele
well you said it , as an arsenal fan lol
Same here. I would acc like him to play for us
This is one of the most powerful interviews ever.
Dele can be proud of himself, what a great person!
Bravi 👏🏾

It takes a lot of mental strength and bravery to open up like this, This interview really hits so hard and I hope Dele knows that we’re all with him 💙
Remarkable Dele ever got to the level he did, with all that on his shoulders.
Testament to both his talent and his mentality.
The strength he's shown in this interview gives me hope he can make a return to top-level football, but above all, everyone just hopes you stay healthy Dele. ❤
Unbelievable strength from Dele to talk about this. No one knows what's going on behind the doors or in people's lives. Wish him all the best.
😍
Truly hope Dele is in a much better place now and can take care of himself. Massive thanks to The Overlap for allowing him to tell his story and for the compassion from Gary to help Dele open up about this.
Wow, absolutely incredible that he reached those highs at 23 years with so much inner pain. This guy is what we call a legend - he made it when there was every reason not to. Power to you Dele - love you bro and this is inspirational.
