    I spent £550 on my Pure Air Pro LR that has 37 miles of range and I ride it back and forth to work knowing full well the police could nab it from me any day they feel like it. At a whopping £2000+ it's just too much risk to get it confiscated... or even stolen.

      The whole legal thing is a total crapfest. I ride an illegal ebike with 250W sticker lol, they already confiscated my throttle but at first threatened to take the whole bike. I wasn't using the throttle much anyway so don't miss it.

    I am not interested in buying an e-scooter, but damn this one looks sleek and well thought out. That folding systems is very nice! And with the wide standing pad and build in turn signals etc it is probably safer then some legal alternatives. Although going 40km/h on this seems like asking for accidents.

      You'd be surprised I think. I can't speak for this scooter since I haven't ridden it, but the angle that the stem has means that it's going to have a good bit of stability. This seems like an overpriced scooter to me. There are much less expensive options that have much more performance and comfort built-in. One thing to be aware of when buying a scooter is that if your commute includes hills you really need dual motors. A single motor scooter might be able to handle a hill, but it'll burn out the controller fairly quickly since it's having to work super hard.
      To address your speed concerns, performance electric scooters (which this is not) are purpose built to be able to handle those speeds. Before owning one myself I had the same concern as you, but after riding it for a month or so I realized that the shocks, weight, and durability of the scooter made riding it at higher speeds perfectly safe. You just need to be sure to practice your hard breaking and rapid turning in an empty parking lot for an hour or two prior to going on the road since scooters need to avoid objects rather than going over them like a bicycle. When breaking hard you need to duck down and lean back or you'll go over the handlebars. To turn quickly at speed you need to learn to counter steer, just like you would with a motorcycle. It's actually pretty easy.

    Nice scooter and really original folding mechanism! I wish all e-scooters had folding handlebars! If not they are the width of a bike so portability suffers. This scooter is a bit pricey though and like so many before it even with legislation may remain illegal as it’s over 500 watts which it’s believed will be the limit of any legislation 🤦🏽 anyone who has ridden an escooter knows that for hills with heavier riders more power is required!

    I live in the US so no issues with legality just issues with drivers with there face and eyes 👀 in their phone. I currently use an electric scooter on my commute 50 miles each way primarily by train to work I do 4.5 miles from my house to the station and 2.5 more from the station to my office. Originally bought it for the last 2.5 miles then after a month of putting it the back of the car just began scooting from home. Most week days my car doesn’t get used at all. Where this scooter shines and begins to justify its cost is how small it folds for someone like me taking it onto a train this is huge. I plan to retire to a sailboat in 18 months and this might be something I’d buy also looking at a Gocycle but pricy and takes up more space.

    I'm a big fan of ultra-portable scooters able to **** Transport for London as they fit in a bag. The perfect example was Blitzwheel e-scooter by an American start-up Blizwheel. Hyundai has shown a similar concept in 2017, later updated in 2019, but some five years later still nothing happens. Maybe you could reach out to Hyundai and ask if it's been shelved?

  • @jonevansauthor
    @jonevansauthor ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well, I wouldn't buy a £1,900 e-scooter even if they were legal, and would absolutely rather pay £3,000 for something that is the same, but actually admits to being an e-scooter because I'd happily pay a tax to avoid that kind of pretension which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth. What's good about this is them putting money into R&D which may or may not lead to other firms copying their ideas if any are useful. Which obviously considering they're not legal, their biggest fan and an undoubted expert on e-scooters, wants a bigger wheel, and at this level of cost it obliterates the value proposition for most people, I don't think they are.
    This is the same as the Microlino. Instead of concentrating on fundamentals such as making a good product that's easily produced, and therefore cheap to make and sell, they're aiming at the Apple end of the market. Which is a good way for normalising these things - who has more money to fight the good fight in Parliament than the type of people who'd buy products from Apple? Difference between them and Tesla is they have no environmental credentials of any kind, and no plan stated up front to build the expensive one so they can build the mid-range one so they can build the cheap one.
    I do hope Bosch or someone creates a standard battery specification that we can all use in our e-bikes and e-scooters. It's kind of hard to see why we can't just plug in their power tool batteries to be honest. That'd be a killer feature at some point (and yes, I know the form factor isn't ideal for current e-scooter designs but that's what engineers are for).

    A scooter without suspension on both wheels sucks!
    Just as important as good brakes and performance.

    3:30 Somebody please inform the 'I'm 5' 10" gurl" that scooters don't have "levels of assist" since there are no pedals.. the controller just gives you different speed levels.

    • @jonevansauthor

      @@ferrarikingF50 yup. I think the scooter is appealing on the basis that it's small, speedy, requires no exercise other than standing up on it (which is a pretty good beginners exercise if you're currently sedentary) and you can take it into the office with you. Once they get big though, that equation changes. I can't carry a tall backpack, put this thing in it, and have it in the cinema while I'm watching a film. It would even be awkward to take around the shops with me. So what do I actually do with it? Maybe commute to work if my office is spacious. But it's £1,900 and I wonder how easy they are to secure? If everyone else has £3,000 ebikes around me, and it's possible to secure these well, their bikes will get stolen first but...
      Not that it matters in the UK since scooters are illegal.
