Finally, I found a mechanic who listen to me to re-enter the stored compensation code and IT WORKED. The label for the compensation code on my car is partially erased. I asked 2 independent car mechanic, one dealership and one transmission repair shop and they didn't listened to me. I was about buy professional grade scan tool, maybe i tried another independent mechanic and he listened. I showed him the video on this channel, and he followed it. He took a picture of the compensation code on the scan tool and re entered it. Now, my 2012 Toyota Camry shift flawlessly. The dealership says I might need a new transmission. I told about the video to transmission repair shop and he said it is not always the same case. One independent mechanic told me maybe I need to replace the filter and fluid. One auto repair shop scared to touch the software. Thanks so much @737 mechanic.

Listen to this guy! My 2015 Toyota Avalon used to worm its way into second gear from a stoplight, then shudder its way into third gear. Unresponsive shifting made in town driving unbearable, mostly when accelerating after idling from a complete stop. I didn't enjoy driving my car anymore. This upload suggested I find someone with an Autel tablet and ask them to wirelessley transmit the code from a sticker which was under my battery tray using their Autel tablet to reset transmission shifting timing through a sensor in my car- this reset the gear shift timing of my transmission to new. An auto shop, called Midknight Auto in Lubbock, Texas that performed this for me was on a gravel road. When their security gate opened- I drove out onto a paved road, I used the same amount of pressure to press on the gas pedal that I usually use. My acceleration suddenly had torque, My back was stuffed into the driver seat at an alarming rate. The trouble I was previously experiencing with shifting between the starting acceleration gears was gone. The responsiveness of my car was restored to the factory setting as if I was driving a new BMW. I bought my 2015 Avalon with 43k miles on it, it currently has 61k miles on it- the transmission is now shifting better than any car I have ever owned, masterfully. When we think of transmission repairs we assume that we will be without a car for a while and get hit with a $4,000+ bill. Which must be why car dealerships and auto shops dont buy Autel tablets. Replacing sensors and committing car owners to sign for transmission overhaul contracts earns mechanics more money than refreshing sensors. If you can find someone who has an Autel, this will be a 5 minute procedure. Prepare to be amazed. New transmission amazed*

I have a 2013 Camry SE with the same situation, 117k miles. The transmission was never serviced. Two transmission fluid changes fixed my shudder issue but I still had the same problem with shifting hesitation from 2nd to 3rd. A high end scan tool is used to copy the original factory compensation values, for the transmission, from the car's ECU? ( I'm not sure if the term ECU is correct) into the scan tool and then download these original values back to the transmission.
I went to a local transmission shop and asked them to restore the compensation values for me. He never looked for the tag, mentioned in this video. He did it by USING ONLY THE SCAN TOOL and it took him about 15 minutes, with the test drive included. The shift problem is fixed and transmission fells like it's new. Good luck.

    • @737mechanic

Yes, you need to have it done. The compensation code is unique to each transmission and is required for the transmission to shift properly. It is required with any transmission replacement.

So basically, resetting the TCM is not enough to reset old shift values, and likewise, TCM relearning upon reset is not enough. My Lexus RX300 is doing the exact same thing with 2nd to 3rd only, after I rebuilt the transmission entirely. Everything works great except that one upshift. I've dropped fluid x3 times already, going from synthetic to a Castrol compatible Dextron, and to no avail, still has a lagging upahift.
The motor literally gets stuck between the gears, and I can play with the rpm when it gets there, to enable a smooth shift, if I push gas harder at that time, it hangs up longer and then pounces in gear after some time. I suspect I need to do this re compensation.

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The compensation values tells the transmission specific details so it can shift accurately, if the values are wrong or off then the tcm can do all kinds of weird stuff. Resetting the time without re-entering the values will not change anything if the values are wrong or currupt.

@@737mechanic , this is rather interesting. I ran car a few minutes ago with a cheap scanner just see some graphs...I used Throttle position and timing advance, and fuel trim to watch the response when the automatic is shifting.
I do see a retardation of timing advanced upon each upshift, which I think is expected, 'to ensure a smooth shift', as Lexus says. Then the fuel trim I do see bouncing around, and my bank two goes beyond -10 percent at times, and it's only for that trim specifically as I see trim bank 1 hover near -4...I do see it catch synchronization with bank 1 every now and then but it seems my VVT code, 1346, may be creating this compensation. My VVT sensors I replaced recently and the code and issue still turn on the engine light after I reset the ECM. That all said I'd wonder if that can be what is causing this 2nd to 3rd shift issue.
If it's not that then, since I know my trans is clean, given that I rebuilt it, with all new o-rings and seals, and washed every part upon installation, then a clogged up valve body seems very unlikely and likewise, a clogged module such as C2, which does activate to make the upshift and maintain 3rd after 2nd.
It's this dance that happens when it leaves second and moves to 3rd, and in that moment of shifting, I can make the issue delay longer, or not at all, simply by letting off the Throttle. When I do that, the shift event happens smoothly and with no issues. Same thing happens if I manually shift the lever from 2 to D, and I'll feel the event happen smoothly. Also this issue isn't apparent when it's engine braking on deceleration, and if I hit it, and the trans downshift to 2nd to then go back to 3rd, the issue doesn't happen.
It's only when I'm just running up the gears that this happens, and especially when I'm accelerating harder than normal.
When I allow the issue to happen by maintaining a hard gas pedal, or increasing acceleration instead of letting off the gas, it gets hung up worse and then clunks into 3rd given the pressure from acceleration and the lag in gear changing. Sometimes though, rarely, accelerating to the max will allow for an almost smooth shift, but more often than most, it hangs between the gears.
Since I can change the issue to not happening by letting off the Throttle, then, it tells me that there should be an electric method that does the exact thing I'm doing, by retarding the ig timing. I know it uses two speed sensors to determine projected acceleration vs real acceleration, thus, it knows if its on an uphill or downhill. Then, it takes readings from the TPS, and even Knock and O2, to determine how and when to shift. This is the dance I speak of, and since I don't have much experience in automatics, from what I read, the TCM can revise this issue.
Lexus apparently offered a Hot Fix for this by re flashing the TCM or something for these 2001 to 2003 valve body's, but the real culprit in their recalls was a bad planet gear adjustment that needed to be welded down so the pins don't break. Its what happened to this trans that made me have to replace the entire 1st/reverse planet set. Aside from that it's the original trans still, with a new torque converter and new clutches, speacers, seals, a bearing, and that one planet set.
Everything is perfect with it now except this last shift issue that's I've been messing with for a month now. I'm tempted to by that Autell devise perhaps, if it is cheaper than say the snap-on Modulus.
I think you may be correct about these compensation values relating to the issue I gave now, with the same upshift event you describe in the video. It's worth if for me to try for sure before attempting to upgrade to the 2003 valve body and solenoid setup...very pricey.
      Thanks for all the advise.

I've got a similar shifting problem that seems to be software related. Car's an 05 Camry with the 5 speed auto.
When the coolant temperature's below halfway to operating temperature, the car does not want to shift from 3-4, and from 4-5 without bringing the rpm's up to 2.2k rpm. It's always this exact rpm, on the same mark on the tachometer. After warming up it shifts fine. No jerkiness or anything, just that you gotta bring the rpms up high to get it to go.
I only have a BlueDriver so far. Perhaps I need an Autel to do this?
I'll post a video fo me trying to fix this issue with Motor Medic, although it didn't work, which convinces me that it's definitely a software problem, not a mechanical problem.
