Mackachev has been unlucky. He was meant to fight RDA and Dariush but both got injured. Those wins would have given him a title shot no doubt. It isn’t his fault. Islam has done everything that the UFC has asked from him. Give him a title shot. Everyone else has either lost or have fights.
At this point yeah it’s hard to say he doesn’t get the next shot but yeah bro him and Dariush really still is the fight to make for the next contender. Maks in such a weird spot. Hasn’t fought true elite of the division but fuck 10 fight win streak but his last 2 opponents were short notice. Again at this point I think he should get the next shot but yeah weird spot

The reason he fought Green is because everyone else turned the fight. Rumors were the UFC offered the top 15 fighters a shot, and they all turned it down. That has been a problem for Makhachev, no one wants to fight him even now that he is top 5.

Olivera vs Machachev will be the closest thing to Tony vs Khabib. Olivera is a optimised Tony Ferguson and Machachev is a modified Khabib. Can't wait.
Great fight and if it weren't Islam fight Oliveira I think you could often slot Oliveira into the Khabib role (modified). I. With you though Tony had this sort of unknowable quality to pull out of bad situations and find a way. Don't think he ever could have beat Khabib when they had comparable time in the game. Oliveira has faults but way more refined with growing tools aside from lights out grappling. Tony's grappling was never Oliveira level.
Would make an amazing fight and if someone might have took one off Khabib it might have been Oliveira but they're still operating on a slightly different level and it'll be amazing to see someone solve it. It's such an amazingly successful and safe strategy which breaks so much of what opponents want and can do.
Olivera has found this new level man but I’m worried about damage accumulation. He had a ton of fight years and he gets dropped in almost every fight. Still an absolute killer

There are very few UFC fighters that can score a double leg take down from the fence in close quarters. Most fighters have such good take down defense these days that you usually have to set them up open mat, or off strikes. Khabib and Islam can just drop down, lock the hands, and get the take down. Impressive!

Fiziev couldn’t finish him (and lost the third round decisively) and Islam will R1 TKO/Sub the entire top 15 except for a few. Bobby green is definitely elite enough to be ranked over someone like Gregor Gillespie who never fights
At the end of the day he should lose no stock at all. Shouldn’t move up or down. 10 days notice against one of the biggest threats in the division. Basically a mulligan

The Anthony pettis jui jitsu game is some of the most entertaining in mma history, oliviera took his back about 10 times in their fight and pettis kept turning into it perfectly
Sambo should be recognized as one of MMA's base arts, just like boxing, bjj, wrestling etc. Its so underrated. Other fighters have to learn each art separately and are tasked to combine them. To Adjust them. *Why not start MMA by doing MMA already?*
Grapplers cant wrestle. Wrestlers cant grapple, etc. For most fighters, *its usually never balanced.* There was a video of Islam fighting and defeating Zabit from way back ( the weasle ). They look like teenagers and it was practically an MMA fight. Im telling you these guys can absolutely can throw hands. These guys like Khabib and Islam ( and also Zabit ) have been MMA fighters since birth, they're just exploiting the weaknesses in LW's that is the combination of wrestling and grappling.

It’s so close to MMA that it’s kind of redundant to say it’s a base for MMA. It’s like saying folk-style wrestling is a base for freestyle wrestling; they’re more like the same sport at its roots just with substantial rule changes.
@@Garrett1240 It is relevant when the context gets misrepresented. Khabib is seen as a wrestler. Same with Islam. Zabit Is seen as more of a striker. Not a lot of people consider them as MMA-based precisely because their roots arent recognized as MMA represented. It is pretty important.

I'll disagree with the BJJ comment but it has always been like boxing. A specialized skill set which does not slot into MMA seamlessly, especially as people got more generally well rounded. My favorite thing about Khabib was him understanding how to meld his striking into his specialization which made it better than some would have thought but that's MMA. So many BJJ guys seemed to suffer from like no melding and especially poor wrestling when their game was so contingent on achieving what wrestling achieves, getting to the ground.

There is just something amazing about that and that Khabib was also so low. The style is just fucking brilliant. I'm so curious to see how the next generation adapts. Can they learn to overcome the style? It is quite new but rock solid as far as most can see. Otherwise they'll have to adopt it which they might need to to overcome it.
Not to gush too much but it really is strategically brilliant since even standing it nullifies and enhances their striking and defense through existence. While on the reverse striking excellence mostly becomes moot on the ground.
There are some old Abdulmanap seminar vids where he talks you through his way of positional advancement and most of it is pretty textbook. Some veteran moves like bouncing your opponent off the cage to lock hands, best offense from each position. Makhachev and Khabib look so different implementing the same strategies because it is largely in the the timing, when to shoot, when to advance etc.

There is one thing that Islam has on top of everything else and that is size. He looked bigger and stronger than Green and there will be a size difference again against Oliveira. I see that one being quite one sided.
Poirier or Chandler would be more interesting IMO.
Ultimately, nobody in the roaster can touch Islam.
There’s a few who can compete. Not many. I think Beneil could compete with him as well as Arman in a rematch and Fiziev has a combat Sambo background as well as his striking. But ultimately he probably won’t lose. But there are fights that intrigue me. But you are correct he smokes Dustin and Charles

Islam getting a title shot on a win over Bobby Green isn't great, sure, but Gaethe's case wasn't exactly ironclad either, with a decision over Michael Chandler. So, as far as I'm concerned, giving a title shot to Makachev is not farfetched at all, and he could very well be the next champ. Rooting for Oliveira though. Cheers
