On my farm I employed neighbors thinking it would help bringing camaraderieship as I had bought the land among and from them. Disappointment. Absenteeism due to burials, sicknesses of family, market days off duty etc then pilferage and THEFT. I have stopped that. Can only employ locals as casuals but farm items still get lost once in a while. So now I will only employ far-off workers for effective farm work.

Employing neighbors or people with in the village is like looking for more people to hate you around your village 😅😅😅I almost ran away from my own village just because of such but after realizing my mistake I had to go far to Busoga region and brought people who didn’t even understand my own language even they had no way to communicate to people around me because of language barrier hence success in the farm

Wonderful insights! However, according to my experience with Farm workers especially with regard to an Insider Referral (Already Existing Labourer) is that when you are not careful,if they come from the same area or family, they tend to gang up in decision making!!
Trouble comes when the senior one is unethical or wants salary increase,s/he will mislead those s/he brought in!On the other side,if one of them has committed a crime eg.Stolen something they tend to cover up each other!.
Therefore, only use a referral when you are sure the one referring is the best, disciplined and very ethical beyond even yourself.
Above all, when you get the best labourers ensure you treat them as colleagues as opposed to widening the gap between you and them!Form a Farm Gang sort of crew!
    Thank you very much

We are at work from Monday to Friday and what happens during the week we dont know. The neighbours also have a negative influence on the workers we employ, either by coming to chit chat or getting vegetables vegetables for free.
We are so overwhelmed and dont know what to do.
