    Jeff, My dad (80yrs old) and I just finished our air hammer. Thanks for your video, it made it easy to get all the stuff and plumbing it up pretty simple. Works like a charm.

    Your overview of the valving is excellent, i have come back and watched it many times during my hammer build. Thank you! Please, if you are adding extra valves for more functions I would very much like to see what you've done.

    Hi, i´m impressed. Could you make some more photos or maybe sketch the circuits for better understanding?
    A short list of the installed valves would be really great if you had the time. I think your modifications are just great and would like to rebuild them.
    Thank you for your work.

      If I could draw I would just don’t have a lot of time. Everyone that has used my video said it was pretty easy to follow. The valves I used have been put in the comments. Thanks for your comments. I’m getting ready to convert it so it can be a treadle style or reciprocating with a few additional valves. I’ll post a video when that is completed.

    Very nice setup. I really like the mods you made. I appreciate you taking the time to share this. Do you have either part #s or links for the three valves? That’s the only part I’m not sure on. Thanks!!!

      T Deetz if you are referring to the ball valves those are just 3/8 inch ball valves you can find at Lowe’s, Home Depot, harbor freight in plumbing or air compressor isles. The 3/8 inch butterflies valve (attached to treadle) I got from McMaster Carr but you could most likely use a ball valve there also. The 3/8 inch 5/2 way single pilot valve model number is 4A310-10 and the 1/4 inch roller valve normally closed (NC) is a Temco PV0171.

    Do you happened to have a compiled list of parts needed for the upgrade ??

      @flightdoc73  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 3/8in 5/2 way single pilot valve model number is 4A310-10 EBay
      1/4 in roller valve NC (normally closed) is a temco PV0171 Amazon but looks like sold out. You can get it from Temco or I bet Parker carries something similar
      3/8 in ball valves you can get from Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Harbor Freight
      3/8 in butterfly valve McMaster Carr
      Tailonz pneumatic push to connect male 3/8 in OD and 1/4 in OD Amazon
      Tailonz pneumatic airline 3/8in OD and 1/4in OD Amazon
      Check valve 3/8in female tread Amazon
      Quicken plastic exhaust air silencer 3/8 in Amazon
      3/8 in compressed air filter regulator lubricator I got from Amazon but Harbor Freight and I think Lowe’s and Home Depot also have similar.

    Do you have this hammer sitting on anything to absorb shock? Nervous about my foundation

    • @flightdoc73

      I used a barn mat from Tractor Supply. I cut it to bottom of base shape and anchored it to concrete slab. So far it’s doing good.

    On your uprights did you use 3 .5" square tube? The plans call for 3.25" but I can't source that.

    • @flightdoc73
      @flightdoc73  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I used 3.5” on uprights and 3” for the stroke adjustment

    Hey, I just setup my valving the same way you have yours except instead of a ball valve on the exhaust its a 3/2 foot valve. The cylinder raises to the top position, but it doesn't want to cycle. Did you run into any similar issues?

    • @flightdoc73
      @flightdoc73  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Montygo yeah I tried that way also it did the same thing. Just had to take out the foot 3/2. The way I showed was the only way to get it to work the way I wanted it to. I tried a 2 pilot valve and two 3/2 valves still couldn’t get that to work or cycle right. The butterfly valve is the only way I got it to work right. If you are wanting it to not hit as hard you can put a regulator for the top cylinder before the 5/2 valve and adjust airflow there but I felt it wasn’t that necessary for what I was doing.

    Hey bud, What are the compressor stats you are using to drive this? Just curious if my shop compressor is adequate.

    • @flightdoc73
      @flightdoc73  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brute 10 gallon 125max psi CFM@40 psi 5.1, CFM@90 psi 4.2. This gives me about 45 seconds of full stroke full impact. I have a second small air compressor that is an 8 gallon Kobalt 150 max psi CFM@90 4.0 that I use with a Y connection. I have unlimited time when using both together.

    Is this setup enough to lift 60 kg of weight?

    • @flightdoc73
      @flightdoc73  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think it would. You’d have to bump everything up To 1/2 inch air lines and cylinder. You’d have to experiment with it. Ram weight was close to 75-80lbs. It’s now around 70lbs with dies

      I had been looking for that message. So what’s it doing? Not coming down far enough? Or up ? My roller valve is adjustable

    • @blcouch
      @blcouch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flightdoc73 it has a limited range of motion. Maybe I’m getting too much resistance in the cylinder. I have the roller pretty far down and I have about a 4-5” range of motion. I know from watching your video that something is wrong but I don’t have the depth of knowledge about pneumatics to diagnose the problem. I can send a video via Instagram or post one on my account tomorrow evening when I get home. I’m sure it’s something simple. I just don’t know what.

    • @flightdoc73

      I tried that additional regulator also and it didn’t work well for me. What cfm is your air compressor? I used the 3/8in lines on 3(R) and 5(S) bc that’s what pushes the cylinder up and down (it is actually backwards from what it should be but it worked). 1/4in line is the outside diameter and the inside of it is around 5/32in or 4mm. That is very narrow. Compared to 3/8in OD tubing which is 1/4inch ID. I did use the 1/4in tubing for the roller valve but that was it. Also your quick exhaust defeat the purpose of controlling the hammer through the exhaust of the air gate (butterfly valve). So two main things are change your intake line to 3/8 on both 3(R) and 5(S) port on your valve and do away with quick exhaust. I spent along time figuring out just how to make mine work and this was the only way it worked for me. I tried using another roller valve with a double pilot valve and it didn’t work. I tried Dave Hammers air circuit it would work either. If you did it right your ram should cycle very quickly and very tiny strokes when you first turn the air on to hammer. Hope this all helps.
