These are a fun little project that can be made in a relatively short amount of time. I was itchy to make some sawdust today, so I knocked out 4 of them in about an hour. Just as Chronic says, don't use anything less than 3/4" thick. Because I do mostly exotic wood items, I buy my stock from a professional supplier, rather than an orange or blue box store, so its 4/4, basically 1 inch thich.

Have you had any issues with the balancer not working for some bottles?

Phillip, of the 50 boards I've made over time, I've only ever had an issue with 1. The primary flaw with that board was that it was too thin. I wouldn't recommend a board any thinner than 5/8"
Beyond that, all the wine bottles I use have long enough necks so you can make adjustments to fine tune the balance.

Does it matter how wide your wood is?

You should visit woodprix website if you would like to make it by yourself I think.

Adam- not particularly. I wouldn’t go any thinner than 3/4”, which is how thick typical softwood material is at your big home improvement stores.
These were made of hardwood scraps, which are typically sold in 1” or 2” thickness.
I do not mean to insult your intelligence here. I don’t know how familiar you are with the industry.
      Best of luck
      Andy

Chronic Woodwork - No worries, I’m just starting out and trying to make a little money at this so I can add to my shop. Thought this looked like an easy project to start with that people would like. Thanks for the info!

Adam Reinert this is a big part of how I started. Make some samples and reach out to wineries in your area.
