Great you have successfully grown this uebelmannia on its own roots!! Mine has been always grafted. It started 40 years ago about the size of a golf ball. Grafted on myrtillocactus geometrazans. But after abou5 or 6 years it had out grown its stock!! The stock was shriveling up!! The top was too big!! So I Grafted it on an Echinopsis. After about 10 years it too was used up! That's when I graft it on the large stenocereus prunosus stock. No problem ever since!! And it is now HUGE!!! yes, I think you are right, grafting protects better against cold root loss. I really love these plants!! And they are relatively new .only discovered back in the 1960s!! Thanks for sharing Lyn!!!
