Jake I wanted to ask you is A level available and worth doing when I am 21 years old and haven't done them yet. I feel like its been a long gap since I last did full time education at school and so might not be as efficient as I once was. Considering A levels are harder than GCSEs I am wondering if its the correct choice to make to try them out even if I don't feel "fresh"?
10:39 As well as Engineering, I would add Maths and Computer Science to that list, Further Maths A Level is a very big advantage applying to those degrees, and at some universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial etc), is effectively a requirement.
i dunno about your experience with physics, but I understand the concepts really well, I'm really good at the maths part but edexcel always seem to ask really troll questions that make the exam papers so much harder than they need to be, I find the consistency between mark schemes to be awful, for example from edexcel I've seen anywhere between 2 markers and 6 markers on "how are standing waves formed on a string"?!?!?!?!?!
AQA here, and it's literally the same, a chemistry A level paper, every question can just be answered from memorising text book notes and understanding concepts, but physics, soooo difficult u have to apply really specifically to questions and unpick small details to get it right.😤
Would you still choose to do the same A Levels if you had the interests you currently have e.g. business and were thinking of a course outside of Engineering?
@@theriddler482 I do math further math chem and physics, I study the most for physics qnd jts my lowest grade, imo, jm only good at mechanics. Or its the fact that the exam questions are so hard.
Im thinking of doing engineering in uni. Idk if i should take chemistry/economics for my fourth subject. Im dead set on further math, math, and physics. Someone help. Why economics : i want to learn more stuff out of science im into finance/buisness/money management so i would wanna learn something tht relates to the REAL WORLD Why chemistry: Would facilitate my engineering degree Im already taking chemistry in gcses and finding it easy /manageable concept. Never taken anything related to econs or business… Would be more logical to do chemistry. But idk .
I found I was doing more biology than maths, further maths and physics combined. Maths is definitely the easiest. I would say biology, conceptually, is quite simple but the amount of content is ridiculous. Some of the questions for biology and physics suck. And physics conceptually is the most difficult, (it took me ages to understand the three variable relationship in potential dividers, and couldn't really find the answer I was looking for) but it's fantastic when you understand it. Further maths requires incredibly complex critical thinking and problem solving but not too confusing (a few exceptions like conics). But the grade boundaries are ridiculously high.
how does his rating work i dont understand he said chemistry was really difficult so he put 4/10 but maths was relatively easy but he gave a difficulty of 9/10
Does anyone have any advice on whether I should pick A-level Chemistry or Geography? (My current choices are Maths, Physics, Computer Science and either chem/geog) At the moment, I’m getting grade 8/9s on all the subjects I want to take for A level, so I’m finding it quite hard to decide - especially because I enjoy both of them a ton! Which potential career choices would be influenced by taking chemistry instead of geography?
@emm_parker_ Now, my study tip that I really wish I knew earlier is that not every single revision method or tip works for everyone - revision is a very personal thing and it takes time to find what works best for you, and that may not be the same as everyone else; you have to stay committed and eventually you will instinctively know what revision methods to do! I am going to be doing my GCSEs next year, and if it were not for your videos, I would be nowhere near the place I am today . All I can say is thank you ! I am definitely considering taking maths, biology and chemistry at A-level so this tailored tutors course would be so great ! Thanks again for this amazing opportunity Jake and I hope your new job at Mana is going well :)
I’m about to start A Level Further Maths and am hoping to do a degree in an engineering discipline. For the further maths option papers my school typically teaches Decision and Further Pure. Is this still going to be beneficial or should I try to self study further mechanics to get the full benefit?
It's still very beneficial, pure maths is very important to engineering, and it won't be regarded lower because you didn't do mechanics, it's not worth self studying mechanics
Hey Jake! I am in year 9, doing edexcel GCSE history (crime and punishment, cold war, Henry VIII and Russia+Soviet Union). Could you tell me how to revise for history please, And what to include on timelines (dates etc)
for Cold War, learn causes events & consequences for everything. in general, if you start revising a bit every day early on, you will be fine! (good luck!)
What do you think about the transition from gcse maths to further maths a level. If I got a grade 9 in gcse can I be confident that I will do good in further maths or is it completely different
I currently do AS Biology chemistry & business, and wanna switch business to maths due to my passion for maths and not being good for essays, I need an A minimum, do you think it is manageable in one year?
If you get an 8, you should still take it. You can always drop it later on if you need to. But if you get a 7 or below, I highly recommend staying away from further maths.
@@two697 yeah I’m just worried that it will be too much work and I’ll end up having no life, I’m happy to work hard but I don’t want to completely lose social life or mental health and a lot of people say I will if I take it as a 4th
I got a 6 in maths gcse, but then got an A* in both maths and further maths alevels. So if you enjoy it you’ll be fine. I also did 4 subjects and got 4 A*s

I agree further maths I’d really felt burnt out by the time I got to it
It was so solid especially the modelling
stop waffling

Because difficulty gives it a lower score
