  • The final part of a three-part series with Fast Bikes Magazine’s John McAvoy following the progress of taking a standard road going YZF-R7 and getting it ready to race at the 2023 Isle of Man TT. No easy task with race-parts being ordered from various sources home and abroad, pulling favours and final adjustments in preparation to challenge for a podium in the Supertwin category.

The R-7 is a great Intermediate Track Bike .. I would assume the R-6 has a light years better Chassis and Suspension plus way more Horse Power.
My 2016 Yamaha FZ-07 was not even safe to ride at higher speeds in stock form. I had to put Ohlin Cartridges in the front forks. That made a drastic Improvement .

The airbox is a power sucking culprit on this machine. Put every high performance filter into the lid that you want, won't accomplish anything more. It's the box itself. A small tuning firm called Hordpower designed a single pod filter system with long runners to an enclosed pod. Significant improvements on the top end, without any low end losses.

loved the build but how will the bike be developed between now and TT 2025? Supertwin outings at bsb rounds? Manx? also the cost of the build must be north of $50K that's a lot to spend to win a twins race or it costs justified by a win? Great for you to get a corner named after you and your dad which i had the pleasure of meeting one evening discussing insurance which unfortunately he had to use. Thank you for the TT - you were fast!
