Unfortunately, owning property in Japan doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get residency. Fingers crossed you’ll find a way to stay there. Wakayama is gorgeous.
Aloha, I have been watching your video's for a few months now and really enjoy them. Thank you! My great grandmother is from Mirozu Wakayama and lived in a tiny fishing village. I went there with her when I was 10 years old and am planning to take my adult children there in 2025 along with my sister and mother. I can hardly wait until we get to Japan again and visit a remaining aunty in Mirozu and cousin in Osaka. I remember loving Wakayama the best as a child because of how clear the water was and the limpets I love to eat were plentiful. I ate sooo much I broke out in a rash. 😂 I love to see what you're doing in your little world in Japan. It's so beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

I've lived in Japan twice, but never seen a urinal in a private house. I visited a house I rural Shikoku once that had a cesspit Japanese style toilet.

Here in the U.S.A we have septic tanks too, we have ours emptied every 3 yrs & inspection, our septic size is based off how many bedrooms you have, I think urinals are a great idea, but honestly we had all boys so they would go outside in the woods pick a tree & pee, I was ok with that, maybe a little jealous 😉 P.S. If you were deciding to spend on upgrading why not upgrade to a green hydrogen fueling supply for hot water and heating? A small wind turbine with a combination of solar paneling could generate enough energy to provide adequately for off grid living. You certainly get enough for your money in rural Japan.

Hi! The property tax here is 1.4%, so it will be about US$140 per year. The other upkeep costs are for electricity, water, gas and internet. Electricity and water are almost zero if the house is unoccupied, but gas is about ¥2,000/month and internet is almost ¥7,000/month.

Please keep at least one room as a tatami room, it's traditional, and part of the Japanese culture, and should be preserved for future generations. It gives a room character.

Not in super rural Japan! The old survey maps have to do.

@@rlee024 I just searched for prefab houses and the most basic (super tiny, in a shipping container) cost US$25,000. The nice ones cost a lot more.

it's odd alot of Japanese are now going back to the countryside. I wish that won't stop to balance the rural and urban population in japan.
Actually the opposite is true… the countryside is still emptying out, which is why houses like this one is going for such low prices.
