On Cloudmonster 2 Review: Does a bigger stack translate to a better ride?

  • Hey people, welcome to The Run Testers and in this video we’re looking at the follow up to one of On’s most popular recent shoes. We’ve had the new On Cloudmonster 2 in for The Run Testers treatment. Now the first-gen Cloudmonster was a big stack, highly rockered daily trainer that many used for easier miles. But it could move up the gears a bit, too. So what’s new with gen 2? Well On says this reimagined Monster now has “Extreme cushioning that’s been maximised for an unreal bounce”. And if you found the first shoe a little stiff or firm that might be just what you want to hear. But have we got a better Monster on our hands? Here’s what we made of it in our multi-tester On Cloudmonster 2 review.

Is it more stable versus the Cloud Monster , Cloud Stratus 3, or even the Cloud Eclipse ?
Not being heavier is also a nice plus, but if it makes the shoes more stable, it is always a great trade to consider for many runners, like myself.

Always annoying to see a big price hike for a worse product. Nice video though and enjoyed the outro.

The original monsters are my all time favourite running shoe..I've had these for about a year and I absolutely love them, especially for quick sessions.

Please do the Endorphin pro 3's.

the eclipse basically took the monsters spot so I understand their decision to beef up the monster even further to keep its distinction in the lineup. definitely not for me tho.

Oh no, I loved the fit of the 1st version so I might just buy some more of that if it ever gets significantly reduced. This wider toe box might make it too wide as the original is already slightly too wide. That said I love where they seem to be going with this shoe.

Sounds like a misfire from On after the Cloud Surfer 7 and Cloud Eclipse (both of which I bought), I'll be giving this a miss!

Just tried a pair on at REI and walked away with them.

I personally didn’t like the first one for running at all. I really think they need a new midsole foam

I feel for a daily to £££ for me & especially as heavier

On is still far away from convincing me to buy a running shoe from them

There are not a lot of shoes that I despised more. Loose upper, hard and stiff midsole, no energy return. And to boot they up the price 😂.

Idk about anyone else, but the upper on the first version was not durable for me. Where the ball of my foot was, tore from the midsole from just running in it over time. For 160-180 dollars there’s too many better options

yeah but how many miles did it take. this shoe is only designed to last about 400 miles.

It's a shame that the shoes are heavier and the outsole is the same.

When I'm out running......I never see anyone running in ON's. I think most buy ON's to wear casually.

I see a lot of On shoes being ran in,lots of our club runners are using them.

Whats with this trend to have an enormous red flash through the shoe these days? Saucony Endorphin Speed & Pro 4 all do it, Asics all of 'em, Nike Vaporfly, Salomon, Mizuno Wave Rebellion. Then Puma come along and say "nope, we're doing purple"

The On Cloudmeh-ster 2 - now with added mediocrity at a higher price

Disappointing. I thought I would see a midsole like the Cloudsurfer with more stack height.
