When he tried to talk to RS he said, "the stuff you did with Ozzy is great!", and Rudy just rolled his eyes, and kept walking. Kevin Dubrow was a dickhead too. Phuck quiet riot.
I friggin love Rudy. THAT dude has integrity. He is the consummate rock/metal bassist. Not a player but a BASSIST. Not many of those around anymore. They're mostly failed guitarists. He mastered that instrument and is a showman like no other. This story is such a sweet thing to share.
use the word bassist with the name Rudy and then use the word bassist with the name Geddy and then tell me about mastery of the instrument. Good on Rudy for being able to parlay a recommendation from Randy into a sideman career, but from March 19th onward, Rudy tagged along with Aldrich, PERIOD. They were almost like a package deal, each suited to the other's mediocrity and Coverdale not caring because Whitesnake was a guitar band (their Project Driver went nowhere because they couldn't write a song to save their lives). He (Coverdale) could have brought in literally any other drummer and bass player to Whitesnake and it would not have made a whit of difference to the songs or the fans; no one cared who the rhythm section was, they were there to see Vai or Sykes and Coverdale. I once went to an Aldrich drum clinic and after he was done his demonstration, all the questions were about Randy. That is how much anyone cared about him. No one is ever going to ask Rudy about how he played a particular lick because he never played a particular lick. Enjoy your busted balloon.

I’m curious. How many tours/concerts have you personally seen Rudy play? And among those, why do you think they are so weak?
I was fortunate enough to experience Randy in teacher mode as a student of his for several years. He really was a VERY serious instructor, who wanted to make sure you walked away with something new every lesson. His mom was so sweet, but you could see that she did not mess around when it came to the school and her teachers She ran a tight ship.. It was a very unique environment and what a blessing to have been a part of it. Oh, and the bass player in my band was taking lessons from Rudy at the same time. Awesome for saving on gas money. Thank you for this great interview.
What a big loss. Get to see him one time in our town back in the early 80. Even know as and older man 65-year-old, each time I pick up my Gibson and play in me bedroom, the first though come in my head in Randy and I say to him Randy thanks for all your inspiration.
Same here! I saw Randy with Ozzy twice in 1981. Def Leppard did open for them. First show was a band called The Ironcity Houserockers-they got booed off the stage.
Thanks for this upload. I miss Randy Rhoads very much as do a lot of people, but the one thing I will never understand is why Ozzy and Sharon will not release the live concert footage Diary of a Madman tour that was professionally filmed. Like Rudy said, Randy wanted people to see what he was playing and how he was doing it. It's a shame.
Plenty people around still commenting about the cameamen they saw at the concerts. Whatever the Osbournes decide it's either to cash in optimally or there's some hidden motives, often based on hating former band members and out of spite blocking any chance for them to get some money.

The world has changed in the 50 years since QR was founded. Some have died, we've all aged ... but Rudy is still the same, ageless. He'll still be playing bass in his 100s 🎸🎸🎸🤘.
Rudy seems like a beautiful human. So sweet kind compassionate very humble grounded, no crazy attitudes no stuck up business. Just great incredible men. I started to go see Randy in Knoxville, TN (which was his last show cuz the next morning is when the plane crashed). I wished I had went , only a hour from my house). Something happened and I didn’t get to go. When I look back I’m kinda glad I didn’t go. Randy stays in my heart and head all the time anyway and I was thinking if I had gone, I would’ve never stopped for a second thinking about him which may have drive me nuts. Then another part of me wishes I would have went so I could have got to see Randy that last time. I’ve thought about him alot over the years, what all he would have done. I just wish he hadn’t got in that plane. I can’t think of another soul that has left such a mark on the guitar world with only 2 albums. Absolutely Amazing . What a awesome incredible talent. When my son first started getting into playing, Randy and the song Dee was one of the first bad ass musician’s I introduced him to. He learned Dee and could play it so beautifully. Now Randy is my sons fave guitar player, he thinks the world of Randy, we all do around here. WE LOVE YOU RANDY RHOADS. You are so terribly missed admired adored. Thank you Rudy for showing us this side of Randy. I saw Ozzy with you and Randy in the Pine Bluff Convention Center in Arkansas a very short time before Randy was killed. It was the best show and a memory I will always treasure. I was just talking to my son about you yesterday, and told him he should look you up on the internet. I told him he would be very impressed knowing the bands you had played with during your career.
Amazing how Randy never considered himself a rockstar, but a teacher just playing for a rockstar as a side gig. There's a reason my daughter's middle name is Rhoads🤘
Randy should be remembered as a player that had nothing to prove. His writing was even better than his soloing. He was quite humble and this alone is what made him so great. He made quite an impact in a short time and his legacy is cemented. He will always be considered one of the greatest players ever. So wish he was around today. Truly missed and to me the greatest loss ever in music. His story is one of the greatest of highs and the tragedy of life. God bless he and Rachael.

Hearing rudy talk about randy holding the guitar in a way that his playing was viewable reminds me of being a little kid watching chet atkins on heehaw. As he performed there was a seperate camera angle that showed a clise up of his guitar and his hands. These guys were not just great because they played so good, they really loved music.
I was lucky enough to be friends with Lonnie Mack who was a very talented guitar player and singer. I got to sit and watch him play and learn from him and although he was known more for blues rock he was a able to show me things he learned from watching Chet Atkins

The flashbacks this brings... I noticed right away from Blizzard and being banished up North, running from a hurricane IIRC. Back then we had home speakers in a flat black vehicle to blend in with the woods. He was one of those risers in the steps of Rock. Like Chuck, Jimi, Eddie,.. It was a great distraction from my life's traumatic episode. Still, I often listen in awe and the same problem has grown exponentially.
Great stories from Rudy . I was a bellman in Phoenix az in the "80's" at a big hotel and that's when Blizzard of Oz came through, I am a guitar player and saw that Ozzy was coming to our hotel. I met Rudy , Ozzy , tommy Aldridge and Rudy is right, I got to go up the room and randy was playing classical guitar, I asked Randy can you show me the solo to "crazy train?" He said sure and started ripping it on acoustic! He was so nice and approachable , everyone was so cool except Tommy but it's understandable. Saw the show the next night, randy had some pedalboard problems but still kick butt! God bless him.

For nearly 40 years people have been asking Rudy about Randy Rhoads. I can only recall one interview where the focus was on Rudy. I feel sorry for the guy. His success has been overshadowed by an event that happened in 1982.
I had the opportunity to meet Rudy after a show with Geoff Tate in Laguna Beach. I don’t give musicians any more consideration than any other person- but I have to admit since the second live album I purchased was “Speak of the Devil” I was psyched to talk to him

Such a terrible tragedy that it is impossible to imagine a complete breakdown in consciousness, that he will no longer go on stage and write a single note. The story of Randy Rhodes' development as a musician is very interesting, showing a real person who loves music and guitar.
My cousin turned me onto Randy himself about a year after he passed. Of course I'd heard Crazy Train & maybe a couple others by then, but never really followed the band. My cousin played Dee for me, and I was stunned. For me that was the turning point, and I became a huge fan of Randy's. I actually have a copy of QR2 I ran across by chance in a used record store, pretty good album for pop rock.
Omg 😮 I just realized I may have seen Randy Rhodes play 😮. I saw Quiet Riot in a parking lot with just their quitars & a couple of amps outside a concert in Toledo Ohio I went to. There were 3 guys . Wow 🙀
For the stage, I agree. But in the studio, Lee and Bob were absolute beasts as a rhythm section and Bob was quite prolific as a writer of music and lyrics. What they created as Blizzard of Oz was surely monumental. Exactly how a band should function. Quite the accomplishment considering Ozzy's condition in those days. Then to never have received the credit for their input at the time was nothing short of criminal. While I'm at it, honorable mention must go to Randy Castillo during his tenure. I'd take one of him over a dozen Tommy Aldridge's anytime.

There is a guitar solo by Jan Akkermen from the band Focus. NBCs Midnight Special, the performance of Hocus Pocus in 73 I think. I swear Randy must have seen this because some of the configurations and runs he uses are straight out of the RR playbook.
So great to hear someone mention Jan Akkerman! He is an awesome guitarist that doesnt get spoken about as much as e should do. I'm a big Focus fan. I've interviewed Thijs a few times and met him last month, too.
Honestly, the only truly gifted;( and they're extremely rare) from God to have the ability to play lead guitar naturally and completely self taught that besides my older brother was Randy.He was the singular guitar genius that he looked up to. ❤

А перед этим увидел в 2006 году бассиста в Дио Руди Сарзо, думаю что за басист хотя у Дио был как знаю Джими Бейн . Думал Руди Сарзо это неизвестный басист , а оказывается у него стаж о гого , и он играл в Квайт Райти с Ренди Роудсом и Кевином Дюброу когда им было по 20 лет . To what Rudy said about randy showing what he played as he played ,unlike a certain hack not to be named that he’s often compared to , that’s what made him better than anybody else , no fear of people stealing his stuff because he knew his abilities were far past and above the next best player by a country mile and still to this day , musically and technically the best to ever play the guitar .

We all understand the ones that did it to themselves. Burned out etc. but rr fans know the his confidence was up . And his Vision of making something better was going to result in something special. The huge shift from quiet Riot was basic to extremely advanced with ozzy. I think he was going to do some instrumental pieces . Even if he stayed with ozzy
This is so cool. But i think Randy could have reinvented himself in one of many styles from classical to acoustic to any modern style. He was a true wizard. The music was organic to him. Like breath.

Say what you want about how great Randy Rhodes was but Quiet Riot didn’t get big until Carlos Cavazzo (hope I spelled that correctly) joined the band. In my opinion, Randy found his niche in Metal playing with Ozzy. I just think it was more his style, then he really took off. But again, only my opinion.
Quiet Riot got big when punk started to fade and heavy metal took off (especially with MTV) shortly after Randy died. We'll never know if Quiet Riot would have made it had Randy stayed, but we know he didn't have the song writing freedom that he did with Ozzy and Bob Daisley. Barbara Mandrell had a hit song back then that she was country, when country wasn't cool. Randy Rhoads was Heavy Metal, when Heavy Metal wasn't cool. May he rest in peace ❤️
I recently saw some live Quiet Riot shows on YT with Randy and he absolutely did the right thing leaving. The songs were not good. Like...at all. In Ozzy, he wrote great songs with a classical flavor he's famous for. In QR the songs were pretty goofy. He did an extended solo that showed who he really was but I was surprised at the song writing.
Quite riot was great untill the singer passed... I got to see the mental health tour. I know everyone says this but I bought a upper level seat for 25 bucks,my friend said look lets rush the stage I hung on to his belt loop and hung on we ended up on Carlos side and within a few songs I was standing right below Carlos. I think I slapped his leg I was Thay close.
What I find amazing is that the first two Quiet Riot records were complete garbage. Suddenly, a couple of years later, Randy writes the two Ozzy masterpieces. It’s like night and day. Was it the influence of Kevin DuBrow that had Randy write those terrible QR songs or was it Bob Daisley’s influence that pulled these great guitar parts out of Randy while writing Ozzy’s music?
I think he left because quiet riot wasn't really a big band at the time they didn't get big till metal health came out in 1983. Same as twisted sister didn't get big till stay hungry came out.
@@Nissardpertugiu I don't know about that the members of quiet riot were getting very little money at the time they were originally starving artists 1982 quiet riot were not even contenders for a number one hit they were hanging on by a thread till the album "metal health" came out in 1983. As a matter of fact they got super popular after Randy Rhodes had left the band.
Rudy Randy not one time made best guitarist of the year when he was alive.. Eddie Van Halen ruled that from 1978 into the 90's Rhoads wasn't an innovator of any kind his style wasn't new to anyone.. Steve Howe from YES and Robert Fripp from King Crimson were playing progressive Rock neo classical years before Rhoads and these two smoked Rhodes on guitar..

Rudy seems like a beautiful human. So sweet kind compassionate very humble grounded, no crazy attitudes no stuck up business. Just great incredible men. I started to go see Randy in Knoxville,
TN (which was his last show cuz the next morning is when the plane crashed). I wished I had went , only a hour from my house). Something happened and I didn’t get to go. When I look back I’m kinda glad I didn’t go. Randy stays in my heart and head all the time anyway and I was thinking if I had gone,
I would’ve never stopped for a second thinking about him which may have drive me nuts. Then another part of me wishes I would have went so I could have got to see Randy that last time.
I’ve thought about him alot over the years, what all he would have done. I just wish he hadn’t got in that plane. I can’t think of another soul that has left such a mark on the guitar world with only 2 albums. Absolutely Amazing .
What a awesome incredible talent. When my son first started getting into playing, Randy and the song Dee was one of the first bad ass musician’s I introduced him to. He learned Dee and could play it so beautifully.
Now Randy is my sons fave guitar player, he thinks the world of Randy, we all do around here. WE LOVE YOU RANDY RHOADS.

Thank you Rudy for showing us this side of Randy. I saw Ozzy with you and Randy in the Pine Bluff Convention Center in Arkansas a very short time before Randy was killed. It was the best show and a memory I will always treasure.
I was just talking to my son about you yesterday, and told him he should look you up on the internet. I told him he would be very impressed knowing the bands you had played with during your career.
Amazing how Randy never considered himself a rockstar, but a teacher just playing for a rockstar as a side gig. There's a reason my daughter's middle name is Rhoads🤘

Randy should be remembered as a player that had nothing to prove. His writing was even better than his soloing. He was quite humble and this alone is what made him so great. He made quite an impact in a short time and his legacy is cemented. He will always be considered one of the greatest players ever. So wish he was around today. Truly missed and to me the greatest loss ever in music. His story is one of the greatest of highs and the tragedy of life. God bless he and Rachael.

Hearing rudy talk about randy holding the guitar in a way that his playing was viewable reminds me of being a little kid watching chet atkins on heehaw. As he performed there was a seperate camera angle that showed a clise up of his guitar and his hands. These guys were not just great because they played so good, they really loved music.
I was lucky enough to be friends with Lonnie Mack who was a very talented guitar player and singer. I got to sit and watch him play and learn from him and although he was known more for blues rock he was a able to show me things he learned from watching Chet Atkins

The flashbacks this brings... I noticed right away from Blizzard and being banished up North, running from a hurricane IIRC. Back then we had home speakers in a flat black vehicle to blend in with the woods. He was one of those risers in the steps of Rock. Like Chuck, Jimi, Eddie,.. It was a great distraction from my life's traumatic episode. Still, I often listen in awe and the same problem has grown exponentially.
Randy was the professor in every way, from the way he dressed to the guitars and the way he played them. He was the exact opposite of Edward.

Great stories from Rudy . I was a bellman in Phoenix az in the "80's" at a big hotel and that's when Blizzard of Oz came through, I am a guitar player and saw that Ozzy was coming to our hotel. I met Rudy , Ozzy , tommy Aldridge and Rudy is right, I got to go up the room and randy was playing classical guitar, I asked Randy can you show me the solo to "crazy train?" He said sure and started ripping it on acoustic! He was so nice and approachable , everyone was so cool except Tommy but it's understandable. Saw the show the next night, randy had some pedalboard problems but still kick butt! God bless him.
I was lucky enough to see him play his last concert in Knoxville, I'll never forget it. He was unbelievable.

For nearly 40 years people have been asking Rudy about Randy Rhoads. I can only recall one interview where the focus was on Rudy. I feel sorry for the guy. His success has been overshadowed by an event that happened in 1982.
I had the opportunity to meet Rudy after a show with Geoff Tate in Laguna Beach.
I don’t give musicians any more consideration than any other person- but I have to admit since the second live album I purchased was “Speak of the Devil” I was psyched to talk to him

My cousin turned me onto Randy himself about a year after he passed. Of course I'd heard Crazy Train & maybe a couple others by then, but never really followed the band. My cousin played Dee for me, and I was stunned. For me that was the turning point, and I became a huge fan of Randy's. I actually have a copy of QR2 I ran across by chance in a used record store, pretty good album for pop rock.
Omg 😮 I just realized I may have seen Randy Rhodes play 😮. I saw Quiet Riot in a parking lot with just their quitars & a couple of amps outside a concert in Toledo Ohio I went to. There were 3 guys . Wow 🙀

For the stage, I agree. But in the studio, Lee and Bob were absolute beasts as a rhythm section and Bob was quite prolific as a writer of music and lyrics. What they created as Blizzard of Oz was surely monumental. Exactly how a band should function. Quite the accomplishment considering Ozzy's condition in those days. Then to never have received the credit for their input at the time was nothing short of criminal. While I'm at it, honorable mention must go to Randy Castillo during his tenure. I'd take one of him over a dozen Tommy Aldridge's anytime.

There is a guitar solo by Jan Akkermen from the band Focus. NBCs Midnight Special, the performance of Hocus Pocus in 73 I think. I swear Randy must have seen this because some of the configurations and runs he uses are straight out of the RR playbook.
So great to hear someone mention Jan Akkerman! He is an awesome guitarist that doesnt get spoken about as much as e should do. I'm a big Focus fan. I've interviewed Thijs a few times and met him last month, too.
Honestly, the only truly gifted;( and they're extremely rare) from God to have the ability to play lead guitar naturally and completely self taught that besides my older brother was Randy.He was the singular guitar genius that he looked up to. ❤

О группе Квайт Райт узнал уже в 2010 году когда увидел клип Зе Старс ДИО 1985 года и там поразил голосом вокалист Кевин Дюброу а он из Квайт Райт. И начал искать информацию о этой группе , и оказалось что и из этой группы её основатель Ренди Роудс гитарист ОЗЗИ с первых его сольных альбомов . Просто фантастика как все бывает.
А перед этим увидел в 2006 году бассиста в Дио Руди Сарзо, думаю что за басист хотя у Дио был как знаю Джими Бейн .
Думал Руди Сарзо это неизвестный басист , а оказывается у него стаж о гого , и он играл в Квайт Райти с Ренди Роудсом и Кевином Дюброу когда им было по 20 лет .
И это именно Ренди Роудс принимал участие в написании этих хитов ОЗЗИка которые я слушал в далёкие конца 80х годов .

To what Rudy said about randy showing what he played as he played ,unlike a certain hack not to be named that he’s often compared to , that’s what made him better than anybody else , no fear of people stealing his stuff because he knew his abilities were far past and above the next best player by a country mile and still to this day , musically and technically the best to ever play the guitar .
With Randy. You could copy a lick all you want. A study him. But to write a piece like. Revelation Mother Earth. You can’t make something like that. Not many people talk about piece. But when I listen to it I feel like I was in a movie . Feels like album instead of one song

Whenever I think of Randy I feel disappointed that he missed his full potential because he passed so young.
We all understand the ones that did it to themselves. Burned out etc. but rr fans know the his confidence was up . And his Vision of making something better was going to result in something special. The huge shift from quiet Riot was basic to extremely advanced with ozzy. I think he was going to do some instrumental pieces . Even if he stayed with ozzy

This is so cool. But i think Randy could have reinvented himself in one of many styles from classical to acoustic to any modern style. He was a true wizard. The music was organic to him. Like breath.

Say what you want about how great Randy Rhodes was but Quiet Riot didn’t get big until Carlos Cavazzo (hope I spelled that correctly) joined the band. In my opinion, Randy found his niche in Metal playing with Ozzy. I just think it was more his style, then he really took off. But again, only my opinion.
Most likely due to the classical nature of Ozzys music.
Quiet Riot got big when punk started to fade and heavy metal took off (especially with MTV) shortly after Randy died. We'll never know if Quiet Riot would have made it had Randy stayed, but we know he didn't have the song writing freedom that he did with Ozzy and Bob Daisley.
Barbara Mandrell had a hit song back then that she was country, when country wasn't cool. Randy Rhoads was Heavy Metal, when Heavy Metal wasn't cool.

I recently saw some live Quiet Riot shows on YT with Randy and he absolutely did the right thing leaving. The songs were not good. Like...at all. In Ozzy, he wrote great songs with a classical flavor he's famous for. In QR the songs were pretty goofy. He did an extended solo that showed who he really was but I was surprised at the song writing.
Quite riot was great untill the singer passed...
I got to see the mental health tour.
I know everyone says this but I bought a upper level seat for 25 bucks,my friend said look lets rush the stage I hung on to his belt loop and hung on we ended up on Carlos side and within a few songs I was standing right below Carlos.
I think I slapped his leg I was Thay close.

What I find amazing is that the first two Quiet Riot records were complete garbage. Suddenly, a couple of years later, Randy writes the two Ozzy masterpieces. It’s like night and day. Was it the influence of Kevin DuBrow that had Randy write those terrible QR songs or was it Bob Daisley’s influence that pulled these great guitar parts out of Randy while writing Ozzy’s music?

I think he left because quiet riot wasn't really a big band at the time they didn't get big till metal health came out in 1983. Same as twisted sister didn't get big till stay hungry came out.

@@Nissardpertugiu I don't know about that the members of quiet riot were getting very little money at the time they were originally starving artists 1982 quiet riot were not even contenders for a number one hit they were hanging on by a thread till the album "metal health" came out in 1983. As a matter of fact they got super popular after Randy Rhodes had left the band.

Rudy Randy not one time made best guitarist of the year when he was alive.. Eddie Van Halen ruled that from 1978 into the 90's Rhoads wasn't an innovator of any kind his style wasn't new to anyone.. Steve Howe from YES and Robert Fripp from King Crimson were playing progressive Rock neo classical years before Rhoads and these two smoked Rhodes on guitar..
