Will today be the day Counsell gets a clue? Neris has an era right at 4, has blown 5 saves, and let's on a baserunner in 90 percent of his appearances as a CLOSER. No that isn't exaggeration due to a chip on my shoulder. 9 games out of 10 Neris cannot get a 1/2/3 inning. enough counsell. Enough

Miller, Smyly, Lopez, Hodge, Neris, Merryweather. Out of those Neris than Miller. Cubs actually have one of the best bullpens in the league since the All star break with that core. But hopefully the cubs will sign an automatic closer during the offseason. And as bad as Neris has been at times, that’s his first blown save since June 7th. Believe it or not.
As I cubs fan I know there a very slim chance we make the postseason but I’m gonna go with no. I’m taking off the stress of winning and just watching that games to have fun

They surprised everyone last year by winning 83gms and missing the playoffs by one gm last year. They were hoping to build of that this year. Last year they had a great offense and this year it’s essentially the exact same team. And they did a complete 180 this year offensively. Nobody predicted that. Not to mention the mediocre defense at the beginning of the year from 2 gold glovers. And Alzolay was a terrific closer last year. When they signed Neris, he was supposed to be the set up guy along with merryweather. Alzolay messed that up by blowing saves left and right and then out for the year so we were left w/out a closer. Had no choice but to bump up Neris to that spot which he sucked also. Glad they released him.

Can someone explain the balk call at 8:22 ? I know they've changed rules regarding quick pitches etc.. in the last few years but that looked fine to me (as a Jays fan, reluctantly)
You have to come completely set. I don't think there are specific guidelines for what that specifically means, but the idea behind the balk rule is to stop pitchers for overtly faking out the runners. I guess in this case he didn't set himself long enough.

We need a better catcher .. yeah Amaya hit a home run but that's not a MLB catcher .... Our bullpen has been good and starting pitching ... But we need a catcher who can throw out runners and a a closer who can actually close out games .... Or we might as well start thinking about next year.
