People don’t understand the happiness from doing what you love far outweighs the extra money made from a drone job. Keep doing what you love Dan, genuine enthusiasm is my favorite part of your videos.
Thing is, I'll bet he makes more money doing what he loves than if he worked at a drone job. People with far less subscribers make a decent living off social media revenue. If he's only making 40% of his income from it at the number of subs he has, he's doing VERY well doing what he loves.
@@Patryn71 Seriously, this is the one. I manage content creators and 1.25M subs is not chump change...I can only imagine what he's making from his mining and I'm honestly surprised o.o
For most people it's a hobby or a side hustle. There are very few people that have the skill and education to turn prospecting into a comfortable living. And now days it takes a special person to enjoy the work required to do this. Between Dan and Jason's videos I've learned how to and put into practice everything from placer to hardrock and smelting. Next work station to build is for chemical purification.
@@leighanncronin6905 don't take this the wrong way, but prayers have never helped me. God himself stood in front of me, with my parents present and his exact words were. There's nothing I can do for him. But thanks though.
Oh I certainly do. I've done labor, sales and tech work as an employee along with working for myself and the last 20 years of working for myself has been way more rewarding. You really do get out of it what you put into it where as working for somebody else is much more limiting in pay and free time. Never become a slave to your work even if you work for yourself
The pan sequence @ 7:15 explained a lot to me. Glad to see it! Also enjoyed the clear & polite explanations regarding these outdoor activities vs some dreary, soul-killing, dead end job, plus the unseen & not understood aspects, directed to those who think they know better than the person living it. Respectful questions are generally better than attack-statements. ☮
If the universe would grant me one wish, it'd be to be there with you prospecting, panning, messing around. Love this. Miss the good old days of doing exactly what you're doing today.
That tenth 🖐 pan looked good. I guess I'm lucky to be one of the 4/3rd's that understands you just fine. ^_^ As always, it's a great video with lots to learn and even more to enjoy! Thanks Dan!!!
8:40 Not that its any of our business whatsoever, but dude it is really nice to hear you're doing well from all your work. I work as an archaeologist but am mainly writing reports in the home-office these days, wishing I was out in the field, or back on the placer claim which we don't hold anymore. Anyway, glad you're doing good. Keep at it! Get that yellow stuff
yup the better day is outside in the open air.any day of the week and gold as well you can't ask for more.thank you for sharing the adventure and information.
Keep it up Dan, don’t let the naysayers get you down. Love your videos, been watching three years. When I was sick in the hospital till now, I watch your videos to make my day. I have learned much about mining and prospecting, geology, from your shows. Thank you Dan! Ted.
I went panning yesterday up here in Maine. The Swift River. Didn't find anything on account of the ground being frozen solid in most places despite the warm air temp. Great upload Dan. Thanks!
Congratulations on the great gold! Your panning and prospecting videos are my favorites. Been watching you on TH-cam for years and years. Thanks for your easy to understand language and for sharing your bits of knowledge and golden wisdom! Blessings to you and all the Hurd herd!
Thanks for the great content Dan. Id be panning too if i could. Watch all your videos cause i admire your attitude and energy. Plus you are a skilled gold and gem stone prospector. Looking forward to many more episodes.
That's one heck of a claim Dan. I've never seen so much gold come from loose gravels like that. I'll maybe get a flake or two of flour gold but the Frazier has some pretty amazing stuff and what looks like high purity due to the color and softness of those really ultra flat flakes. Quite possibly liberated from glaciation.
I love your videos Dan. Your's and Pioneer Paulys are 2 of my 3 favorite subscriptions on YT. I also love it when you guys collaborate. Good stuff either way.
I’m so happy that you are doing well financially. Good people like yourself deserve a little reward in life. Love your channel. I’m going to try panning some day.
Love how you put it in simple terms Dan, you do you and let everyone else deal with their own business! That being said I bought some pay dirt from your website and I had a blast found some gold and everything! Keep it up
Your happiness clearly shows through your videos Dan! And like others your videos have helped me through hard times for a few years now. Gotta love how people always have something to say regardless of a situation, hell I’d love to come work for you sir!
I love that you explain that you are able to make ends meet via your land optioning and other precocious stone sales :) thats always awesome to hear, because now when you go pan or metal detect its purely content and FUN! Many blessings to you and your family Dan!
Oh, can I hear that wind in the background! We can get a lot better f it here in Montana as well. Thanks for all the informative videos in these past years Dan!
Sundays are always a hard day for me mentally but with your videos and a few others who post they’ve become a bit easier to handle. So thank you for your contribution to the world. You help so many of us without even knowing it!
Hi Dan, i have recently had a chance to go panning on some rivers here in New Zealand. Its a very time consuming hobby and i totally understand why you love doing it. Love you content cheers. John.
Thank you for the videos. Love it. Nothing but a shovel and your pan. I live in an area with very little gold. I have no claims. I have no social media. I still don’t mind hiking and digging for hours to make pennies.
Amazing you have to explain that it's not always about the money, sometimes it's about the experience... how many people have hobbies that they'll never make a penny off of but they still love doing it
It seems that people don't understand the adventure side of what you do. I totally understand that. I recently took up metal detecting and have found some beautiful areas nearby that I never would have found without metal detecting
Dan it doesn’t matter how much you make!! It’s also none of our business, but if your making good money I’m happy for you!! You bust your butt to put out good content and you seem happy doing so! Love your stuff so keep pumping them out!!
Seems like a great way to spend the day. Out in natural air conditioning in front of the greatest big screen of all. Enjoying the suround sound of nature. Let em have Mickie D.
Hi Dan, for me personally it would be very interesting to know why and how the Fraser is rich in gold. Could you give us some kind of geological insight? Regards Lex
What a lot of people dont get. It's not about the money. It's all about the adventure when you are doing this. If you are all about money. You will never make enough.
Go easy my friend, and Happy Belated New Year to you all 🥰 I live in the city, work a minimum wage job to survive....watching these videos at least takes me away from all that for a little while, they are chill AF
You really don’t have to justify your life choices but I get it how the trolls on social media point out the superficial points like $/hr activities. They only need to look at how happy you are and the great times you spend with your family to see where the real reward is found. That’s the true gold!
Watson or Black Hawk Nitrile gloves fit... like a glove... and they don't wear out easily and they keep your hands warm(ish) on cold days. I use them for doing construction in the winter. About $7 a pair and usually find them at construction material suppliers, like Slegg Lumber, or Windsor Plywood. I usually by them in bulk, because they're the absolute best gloves I've ever used.
@DanHurd,. Holy cow you are way too nice to these people (must be a Canadian thing). From my point you are here for educational and entertainment and when people make comments about your income or revenue, ignore them. You never need to explain anything to anyone on how you earn a living. I'm sure I speak for most of us and we just love watching, learning and being taken along for the ride on your adventures. Thank you for all that you share and tell the others to pound sand.
Love your videos man, so glad you’re doing things you love! Not many people get to.. hopefully I’m not getting too old to find something I love doing too. I do have a question though, I notice you just launch the bigger rocks and material into the river. Could there ever be big nuggets or anything in any of that or do you just know there isn’t from experience and everything that you know there won’t be so you just toss it off? Never done anything like this so it’s fun to see and learn. Thanks!
Hey Dan. You are paying for gas bill to get there and back. The ones I don't under stand are hikers. It cost them to get somewhere to walk their their butt off. They could stay home and walk around outside round and round the house. I used to hike but it was for hunting. Meat and mushrooms. But gave it up. Now I run up and down the river in My boat fishing for meat in the freezer. I was no born for sight seeing. Basically you are doing same thing I do. Prospecting for mushrooms in spring. Haha. I enjoy your endeavors. Keep on keeping on. Enjoy your time on this old rock. Different strokes for different folks. We are all unique..
Any hobby, that you enjoy doing that pays at all is a good hobby and not a waste of time. Sounds like win-win to me. It’s like when I go fishing and I come back with a whole bunch of trout. I’d love to go fishing but I love eating them even more, and that’s definitely win-win for me or my motorcycling an essence it’s just going from one place to another and spending a modern amount of money if you’re lucky doing it but it’s worth it because it’s so much fun. Not everything has to be about greed and making money and earning a living.
I started gold panning back in June because I needed a new hobby, your vids got me into it and taught me how to do it. I live in the Okanagan, so it’s been perfect because I know the areas you go. Thank you Dan!
Happy New Year to you and yours, you look like you were having a ball. Thanks for bringing me out into the Wilds of British Colombia. Be safe and always stay free! 🙀

Thank you Dan for being so persistently positive and grateful. This world needs plenty more of that!
I am a disabled vet and I would love doing what you are doing . love your videos!

Glad to hear it

Nothing like a classic panning video and wholesome comments down below. Thanks Dan.
I'm with you too Dan....I would love to be out there panning. It's about the adventure and memories....not the money
Keep rocking Dan….haters gonna hate brother. I’m 46 years old and this has been a lifelong dream of mine…just never pulled the trigger.
